Vauxhall Story, December 2010: The Motormen are Rolling On

Back to our Rivacre Park for the next game, 10th placed Droylsden were coming to visit and they were being described as «promotion contenders». They didn’t look like promotion contenders to be honest, we dominated the game and edged it thanks to two corner kicks. The first one was headed home by Ryan Carolan and he could have bagged a brace but Shane Williams was quicker than him the second time around.

We were 2-0 up at half time and we didn’t have too much trouble in keeping things in control after the break, we kept possession very well and could have added another one or two goals to our tally.

The last game of the month was away at struggling 19th placed Guiseley, I was hoping to grab the three points. We took the lead early on when Pietro Palladino sent a low cross into the box and Leigh Smith pushed it in with a sliding finish.

Many of my players were quite tired though and the home side could have leveled the game before half time but their best chance saw the ball hitting the crossbar. We looked more lively in the second half and could have wrapped up the points on counter attacks but unfortunately we missed three clear cut chances. The three points were ours but I had reasons to worry as Ryan Carolan picked up an injury that will keep him on the sidelines for almost a full month!

We managed to extend our unbeaten run and I was also happy to see that we went six goals without conceding! We moved up in 4th place and now we can say that Vauxhall Motors FC will be fighting to get promoted.

Next month will be very tough as we’ll meet leaders Nuneaton, runners up Workington and third placed Gainsborough! All those games will be at home though and I hope that will prove to be an advantage for us.

Gainsborough are the most in-form team in the league as they won their last six games but we have the best away form and also the tightest defense.

Here are the player stats at the halfway point of the season with Shane Williams and Ryan Carolan being by far our best players.

I hope that Carolan‘s injury will not have a very big impact on the team but it surely will be a lot more difficult to get by without him. I will be trying to bring in a couple more players on loan maybe and I’ll also try to offload some of the players that have been disappointing until now. Thanks a lot for reading, I hope you have enjoyed our goals ;)

    Hi Johnny
You’ve got the «engine» running at cruising speed with The Motormen now. Great stuff to have moved up into the play off zone going into the new year. I hope Carolan makes a speedy recovery! These video uploads add a whole new dimension to the story. Love it !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Kevin. I like to watch the goals again myself, it’s a great feature that’s been added to the game.

Great month Johnny! I love the highlights of all the games, adds alot to the post. I also think the way your players celebrate is hilarious, I mean they seem to have the most enthusiastic celebrations infront of about, what appears to be, 4 fans :P Shows their passion though!

Thanks Jack, I’m glad you enjoyed the goals. Well, we’ll be getting more fans sometime, they might hear about a team that’s playing well and scoring and they might want to come and watch it :)

Fantastic Work Johnny. I told you that you’d be at least in the playoffs! Good luck getting loan players, I can’t find anyone to come to me in the blue square premier but remember if you don’t use tranmere you might end up losing them….
    P.S. Good goals as well!

Thanks Vinners. I have tried to loan each and every worthy player in Tranmere’s reserves and under 18s but none of them wanted to come :(

I did the exact same even though your probably a better judge than me. And then they went down to league two and I went up to Blue Sq Premier and the link was terminated :( I guess just no-one wants to play for Vauxhall. I wonder if it’s to do with the training facilities or something like that…..

    Good work Johnny,

Nice to see you turned the corner and results have been very good now that your side is settling down.

Playoffs is now a realistic chance but your not a million miles away from top spot, and if you can keep up the concistency your in for a real shout!

I have a little problem when uploading (no surprise!) in that I cant upload a game when more than 4 goals have been scored. So hurry up and win a game 4-1 or 5-0 and see if its just me!!

    :D

Same with me Ana, I had some problems when uploading. Me country’s connection is very bad. Hopefully I can upload some videos in my next post

And Good job Johnny, you’re climbing up slowly but sure!
Shane Williams was very brilliant there… I think you’ll secure a playoff spot this season. ;)
      good luck!

Thanks Ana. I think I have uploaded a 4-1 game. Have you installed the latest patch, 11.1.1? Uploads seem to work better with it.

You are getting closer. Your team are simply playing brilliant football at the moment. Soon you will be up there challenging for the title based on the way you are playing. Good luck.

Hey Johnny, Shane Williams really is becoming a legand!! I think you’ll even manage top spot with the form your in. You just can’t afford a bad month. Goodluck mate and get the motors up a level.

    • Johnny Karp

      15 ноября, 2010 at 13:51

Thanks Darren, Shane is doing great and he’s only 18 years old! This one might be the player that will stay at the club until we reach the Premier League :)

Hi Johnny, sorry I missed your last post, but I’ve just read it and you’ve had a great couple of months, well done. Hopefully you can keep up your good form and really push for promotion in the second half of the season. Good luck!

Hi Laxeyman, it was my fault because I published it too quickly :) Thanks for the good luck wish.

pls could some1 tell me a good left midfielder for at most 32 mill and 87 thousand pound wages im burnley and currently in 3rd in premier in 2012/13 season

    • Johnny Karp

      16 ноября, 2010 at 07:06

32 mil is a lot of money and you could really get almost anybody for that sum. You could try some good youngsters like Antoine Griezmann or Shaqiri or Marko Marin or Zezinho or Tom Cleverley…

  13. Sears

    15 ноября, 2010 at 22:19

Plobdork — you could sign most left midfielders for that price :-D

          16 ноября, 2010 at 20:27

a patch was out for fm 2010 that let you play with teams such as bashley and godalming

          • Johnny Karp

            16 ноября, 2010 at 20:34

I think I’ve seen an unofficial patch that allows you to play in ever lower leagues than Blue Square North/South. Well, it’s not really a patch, a custom database would be a better description.

      • Sears

        16 ноября, 2010 at 20:31

That player had good potential Plobdork, wise choice!

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else is noticing how easy it is to score from corners? I have a centre back on 23 goals in all competitions in Blue Square South!! And I still have 10games left!! Find it pretty unrealistic to be honest, is it a bug in the game like last year?

    • Johnny Karp

      16 ноября, 2010 at 20:15

Well, I wouldn’t call that a bug if that particular centre back is good enough (tall, good heading, jumping and maybe anticipation) and you also have a good set piece taker. For instance in my Vauxhall team only Ryan Carolan was able to score from corners, the others are useless. Where do you have that centre back placed at attacking corners?

      • Sears

        16 ноября, 2010 at 20:35

That happened to me as well on FM10 in my Shahktar Donetsk file. Sergiy Kryvtsov scored 28 league goals in 30 games I think, and he scored a few more in the Champions League and the Ukraine domestic Cup. I agree with Johhny though, doubt it is a bug if he’s got good attributes like heading bravery etc.

    16 ноября, 2010 at 21:17

My other centre back has got 7 this season too off corners, i have my main one attacking far post and the other standing on far post, with the corners aimed at far post. But also put them forward for throws and use long throw option. I’m not complaining as its led me to promotion :) just a little unrealistic, I wish the centre backs at WBA scored this many ;)

    • Johnny Karp

      17 ноября, 2010 at 06:46

You can always change the set piece tactic and stop scoring so many goals :)
