Sears — FM11 Queens Park: Creepy Crawly Spiders 12/13

Hey folks, welcome to the new home »Allthatisfootballmanager». As you know, Johnny and Darren decided to merge together arguably two of the biggest blogs on the internet together. Genius or what? It’s been my dream to write on Johnny’s website, he really is the God in our FM community. So thank you Johnny for allowing me and the other writers to post here. Although this couldn’t have been accomplished without the fantastic Darren Smith. Ever since I began writing for him, he has become one of my friends. He gave me the wonderful opportunity to write on his old blog, then on Allthatisfootballmanager and now this. I’m so grateful pal and I can’t thank you enough. Seeing as I won’t be able to post all next week, I decided to finish my season and share it with you before I left. Here’s how the magical Spiders ended the 12/13 season….

First Division results:

In my previous post, you may remember me stressing how crucial a strong finish would be, especially to our confidence. Our start to the season was unpredictable and inconsistent. We could play phenomenally one week and terribly the next. However, a slight change in tactic changed our fortunes and now were winning on a consistent basis. This is evident from the picture I have provided regarding my fixtures from March to the end of the season. In a short space of time, we went from relegation contenders to title hopeful’s. This is the crazy life of managing an amateur club :-D All in all, I’m elated with our tremendous end to the season. This gives me so much optimism heading into next season. We just a few players short of actually conducting a consistent title challenge. I’ve seen stranger things.

League table:

If we began the season as we ended it, it could have been us and not Dundee enjoying promotion… We played them 6 times this term, and didn’t lose once, We won 5 and drew once. Needless to say, following our poor start to the season, I would have snapped your hand off if you said we’d finish in 4th position. Especially considering we were just 5 points off 1st place. So close but yet so far….. Go Spiders!

Aghhhhhhhhhh no!! Semi final heart break.. God damn you Aberdeen, you most certainly ruined the party. Shame on you! Only joking, they deserved to win. We played well, but their superiority showed and could have scored another goal or two. But wow, we dismantled Hearts away in the quarter finals. That was defiantly the highest point of our season, and probably my career. (In charge of Queens Park, of course) The board only expected me to reach the 4th round, thus we exceeded in their expectations. Although yet again, my bunch of amateurs surprised the nation. Were making a habit of this, aren’t we?

Players ratings:

I was disappointed with loads of my players, but hey, were amateurs so I’m not going to lose any sleep over it. Mayulu was immense, and most of my new players were decent.. But one question remains, will I continue or resign? Tbh, I’m getting sick of being an amateur club. There’s no room for proper progressing and I’m becoming deluded. I’m not going to quit and start a new game though. Instead I’ll just resign and look for a new club. Kind of like a journeyman story? I feel I’ve bought this club has far as I could have bought it, however I’ll think about it though. Let me know what you think!

That’s it for today’s post, my next post won’t be until next weekend or later. That’s because I’m going to an Army Barracks for work experience on Monday. I’m looking forward to it hugely! I’m seriously going to consider whether I should resign or stay on as boss of Queens Park though. Thanks for reading.

    Hi Sears
Finishing in 4th place is very respectable indeed and you’ve done an absolutely first rate job so far. I wouldn’t resign just yet as perhaps the board will decide to become a professional outfit in the off season so wait and see maybe? Whatever you decide you’ve brought us a great story and good luck next week in the Army!

Thanks Kevin. But the thing is that this club will always remain amateur. Their motto is »to play for the sake of playing». They refuse to upgrade our facilities and my best players consentingly leave. You’ll know my decision in about a week :-p

Hey Sears, an amazing finish to the season and so unlucky to miss out on the final. I personally would give it one more season to try for promotion and see if you go pro then. But I understand you wanting to move, you should do what is best for yourself mate.

ps You’ve been a huge part of my site so I wouldn’t dream of leaving you behind mate :)

Cheers pal…. As I mentioned to Kevin, this club will always remain amateur. However we did have an excellent season and as you said, I may give it one more season.

Great finish to the season Sears, and if you had played like that all season then you certainly would have been promoted. If you stay on I reckon you’ll do it next season, but of course it’s up to you, and if you’re always going to be an amateur club then I can understand why you may want to leave. Anyway, looking forward to seeing what decision you make, and have a good time at the Army :)

Thanks Laxeyman. I’ll probably stay for another season, as I don’t think I’ll get a decent job elsewhere. I’ll try my best to have a good time, hopefully they won’t go to hard on me :-D

You did a great job to take the club this far and my opinion is that you really shouldn’t quit before taking this bunch to the Premier League! I know you can do it! Good luck with the army thing, be careful with the guns :)

Cheers Johnny. I think your right, if I can get the right players in during the summer we may have some sort of a chance to challenge for the title. I don’t think we’ll be aloud to play with guns at all, safety reasons and all :-D Really looking forward to it though!

It’s a very tough call whether to stay or go. Have you been linked with any other jobs? I think that would be what swings it for me. If no-one else is interested in you then it may be worth hanging around for another season

4th was an excellent finish though and semi-finals is just wow!

Nope, and if I did leave, I think I could only get a job in Ireland or another lower league Scottish team. My reputation is only national… Yeah, we’d a bad start but did well after Winter. Thanks David.

    Amateur forever :(
You have pulled off a miracle and I would wait until getting into the top league before moving on, as you will never beat Celtic and Rangers as an amateur team. 4th is a brilliant result and I’m sure you can build on this to mount a serious title challenge next season :)

Yeah, your right Alex. It’ll be impossible to topple the old firm, but to be an amateur team is the top flight would be incredible :-) Thanks man.

    Hi Sears,

I understand your frustration. Maybe just give yourself one more season to see how it goes. If there is no improvement, then you should look for another club. I thought you did pretty well consider your amateur status. Good luck for upcoming events.

    Really well done!

Shame about the cup semi but I guess the stronger team won. Good finish in the league also and you were not too far away from top spot!

Good luck on next season and on your work experience! I have some coming to my salon next week, so I hope they are looking forward to it like you are! :)

Also I would stay at Queens’s Park for now (even though I hate spiders!) as its a really good story so far!

    still amateur?
huh, with that achievement you should be a professional club
i will be very happy if you get out from this club on the next two season because you have a big potential to be the best manager and this club don’t see it
even mike ashley will be looking good if he is the owner your club
i will be amazed if in the real life queens park will do this,so you is amazing!
    good luck
    cheers :)

Agree with most on here sears regarding whethe you stay or go.
I think if you do now, you’ll regret not trying to push that final hurdle to get them into the SPL. Imagine taking them to Ibrox? Would be a great achievement and I don’t want to see you regretting a decision as I know you have become quite attatched to the spiders!

Good luck at the army base, try not to get shot ;)
