Bury FC: Three months into Season 3

Well, I did say there will be a post in the next two days, so here it is! I am getting very addicted to my game now, so it is hard to not play it, especially when you have holidays!

As you know we made 12 signings in the summer, and only 4 players from the previous season survive in the first team! Shows how much difference there is in quality between League 1 and The Championship.

August results

Not a bad start in the Championship where we earned 5 points. The win against Cardiff was something special for our team as they are predicted to finish 1st in the league. I decided to go for Agressive and Leadership in the middle of the park, so Barry Robson and Michael Doyle both started the game. This is where I feel the game was won. We also suffered a morale damaging defeat against Middlesbrough in the second round of the league cup, however I did complete my expectations of the league cup this season of reaching the second round.

CARDIFF 0-2 BURY

September results

Our morale continued to get worse as we lost 2-0 to Leciester City, who seem to be doing very well this season. Then I realised we will be entering a two week international brake so I decided to arrange an easy freindly against Morton, we absolutely smashed them and it succesfully raised the morale at the club. However we lost again against Norwich, this time due to a last minute goal! We then went on to draw our next 3 games… It was a poor month for the club.

So with only 1 win in the league out of the opening two months, I was getting ridiculas messages in my inbox of ‘Bury to go down’ etc. I had to think of a solution of turning draws into wins. I had noticed that we were afraid to attack! I had to somehow change this mentality! What I decided to do was change the mentality from ‘standard’ to ‘control’ and I decided to adjust our defensive line at the back by changing it to slightly high. Did it work? Lets see!

Yes! It did work! My team started to attack without fear! We scored 3 goals twice in the month! The first three games were against team that were around us at the time in the league (15th-24th) It was vital for us to win these games and a slight tactical change seems to have done the trick! Thank god for that! Oh yeah, we are now on an unbeaten run of 8 games! ;-)

So after a tough first three months, this is how the league table looks. We sit in 8th place, very close to the play offs, only a 1point difference, and not far from the top!

Ali Fuseini has proved he is as good at Championship level as he was in the League 1 & 2. This season he has added more goals to his game, 4 already! Sergio Van Dijk is by far our best signing! 9 goals explain everything. Notice that 33 year old Sam Sodge is in the top 3! He is the player that I have managed longest so far in the game! Also 18 year old Paulo is also in the top 4!

Sam Sodge is quiet a fit man for a 33 year old. However i am starting to see small declines…

A few words on new signings!

Ma Kalambay — Good signing, making valuable saves a lot!

Alan Dunne — Mixed feelings. Sometimes great, sometimes poor..

Johnathan Page — Not a great start, and now has been replace by 18 year old Paulo in the team!

Paulo — Brilliant player, and only 18! I’m hoping he makes a lot of progress in training throughout the season

Bryan Robson — Successful signing, usually comes on for the last 20 mins when we need to grind out a result.

Matthew Bates — Successful signing, protects the back four brilliantly!

Steve Jennings — Starting to show signs of settling in the team with good performances. I really like this guy!

Fran Rico — Complete flop

Andrea Gassborrini — Panic buy, yes. However he has turned out to be a really good buy!

Sergio Van Dijk — Great signing! Fans really like him!

Caleb Folen — 1 word, FLOP!

Abdallah Yaisien — Mixed feelings.

So, that end my post! The team is starting to settle, and we are in a good position in the league.

By the way my job at Bury FC is described by the board at the moment, untouchable!

Anyway take care!

Sayam

Hi Sayam, pretty good start to life in the Championship, well done! You turned it round fantastically well after a tough start, and now you can challenge for a play off place. Hopefully you can continue the good run of form, good luck!

Good job Sayam, you turn things around well and that last month will make a big difference for the whole season. The team will continue to gel and I believe that you will keep recording good results at least for a while. Good luck!

Hey Sayam, well done on a decent start within the Championship. Fusieni has proven his worth yet again and you still have time before the squad fully connect. I think the top six is still a good goal and look forward to seeing your next uodate…good luck

    Hi Sayam,

That’s very good results in the last month. You are getting closer and things can just get better if you can maintain. Good luck.

    Hi Sayam
Very smart thing to do in tweaking your tactic. It certainly paid off for you. Well done! By the way I have a couple of flops myself in my squad this season.
