Bury FC: First three months of 2014

Hi everyone, another post of my Bury story! This post features January, February and March of my first season in the Premier League. This post will also feature the semi-final against Chelsea in the league cup!

First of all I have some great news for you! After our great start, our board have decided to spend some of the 40m they got at the start of the season and upgrade the training and youth facilities!

Now there was a few signings in January also. Firstly Matthew Bates departed the club for a massive 1.8m! Great money for a player who ‘eats’ the wage budget and is a back up.

Now the two players signed:

Lampard showed signes of tiring out at the end of the last month and our strength in the middle of the park is quiet weak, therefore Charlie Adam was signed,

Premier League Results

Not the greatest of results in this period. Infact our worst since the start of the season. We got off to a great start vs Chelsea where we drew 2-2. Things got better when we beat Bolton 2-0. The next three games gave us the oppurtunity to take 9 points and we only took 2. These opposition are farely weak so I was very dissapointed with these results. Things didn’t get great after that as we lost to Everton despite leading 2-1 and lost to UTD which was expected. The loss again Blackburn ensured we only picked up 2 points from 18 points. At this moment I was scratching my head, thinking where I can get a victory from. Pedersen scored two goals to give us a win of Birmingham which followed up with wins against Fulham and Reading. The loss against Spurs was undeserved.

I have the following possible reasons for this terrible run:

1 — Injuries! Main defender Victor Laguardia was injured all through this period apart from the last few games. Main right back Alan Dunne was injured all through this period.

2 — Nichlas Pedersen has terrible morale since the first defeat of ‘Very Poor’ which I didn’t quiet understand. This also lead to him missing two penalties in the dying moments of the Wolves and Middlesbrough game where we could have achieved all three points. He also didn’t manage to score a single goal up untill the last 4 games! What can you do without your main goalscorer!

3 — It almost seemed like we were playing with 10men! Why? Second striker Deniran Ortega, only performs like once in ten games.

Therefore I decided to create a new tactic, as I couldn’t simply wait for the team to have one good day, Instead i thought I’d suprise a few teams with a different tactic. This tactics took around 1-2 months for the team to get use to. It also paid off when it was first used again Birmingham!

Another reason why I created this tactic is because I have 3 excellent technically great midfielders in the midfielders in the middle of the park (Lampard, O’hara, Adam) and only one could be used along side Linganzi (DM)

It will also enable to take out the poor Ortega out of the team…

It is also a good tactic to have in the bag to outtactic the opposition.

And now the tactic itself:

League Table

League Cup

The first leg of the semi-final would be played at Stamford bridge. All the hype was mainly coming from the Bury fans. I had a smile on my face when I saw the Chelsea teamsheet, they fielded a weaker team! However…

… it did not stop them from demolishing us! They scored three goals before half time. Iwas not suprised at all to be honest as this game came in the ‘terrible run’ period.

The return leg would be played at Gigg Lane, i was thinking we should do our fans proud by winning the game for them. However winning the tie overall, is maybe too much for us. Chelsea demolished us once again and scored four goals against us again.

FA CUP

Quiet a good campaign in the FA Cup where we managed to reach the quater finals but lost to Tottenham again! grr

AVERAGE RATINGS

Well thats it folks, we have experienced in real life where Hull City and Blackpool have got off to flying starts and then slowly faded away… And it seems to have happened to us!

Take care, Sayam!

Not a bad run of form in my opinion. You lost a few games that maybe should have been drawn. But I reckon you can be proud of your league position. The new tactic seems to do well and hopefully will help you succeed with Bury. Looking forward to your next post mate. :)

Thanks, we also drew a few games that should have been won also. The new tactic will add an extra option which is a good thing. Thanks for reading!

You did very well Sayam, relegation is not a concern anymore and you will have the chance to enjoy the rest of the season! Too bad about those defeats against Chelsea but that’s how you learn :)

Yeah I agree with the above Sayam, a few solid months there and you can be proud of what you have achieved. Especially for a newly promoted side to come this far and hold your position on of the hardest leagues in the world is admirable.

Good luck with the rest of the season bud :)

    Hi Sayam
Even though the reuslts may not have been to your liking the main things is that it looks pretty certain you will still up this season which is a breat job and very commendable.
