Stromson: The FM 2012 Story Is…

*wave*

Hello all, I’m back as promised! I know I said I’d make a video of the announcement, but I just haven’t had the necessary privacy to record this week (try recording with someone else in the room, you’ll see just how awkward it is). In lieu of that, my hand has been forced to make a far less dramatic written announcement. I’d like to thank all of you for your input, and I read each and every suggestion. I took your recommendations into consideration as I narrowed down my choice, and after some profuse brain sweating, I’ve come to my decision.

*drum roll*

*more drum rolling*

*awkward pause*

*a little bit more drums*

And the decision is….

Whoops, wrong image. I meant this:

That’s right, Wales! For those of you who know me, this answer probably doesn’t come as any great surprise. Wales was always the front runner, and since my first Afan Lido save, has been the object of my passion. I haven’t quite decided which team I’ll be starting with, but there is a fair chance it’ll end up being Afan Lido once again. Before our challenge begins, I’ll do a quick summary of the goals and rules I’ll be following:

Goals:

1) Win the Welsh Premier League (feasibly within the first 2 or 3 seasons max)

2) Win the Europa League (Will likely take at least 15-20 seasons)

3) Win the Champion’s League (I’d expect this to come 5-10 seasons after Europa)

4) Improve the Welsh Premier League to a 4 or 4.5 star league on par with the Big 5. (Will probably take me until midway through FM 2015’s cycle)

Rules:

1) No cheats

2) No database tweaks

3) No third party scouting software

Lofty goals, to be certain, but I think with dedication and perseverance they’ll be possible. Given the long term nature of the project, I’ll be altering my posting strategy somewhat. I’ll have two types of updates for this story:

1) Videos — These will be video-centric posts with only some text. These will be done in-season, and will likely just be one-off or key games.

2) Season Reviews — These will be the «meat and potato» posts, where I’ll review the season in full, including key transfers, results, and whatever else I can think of.

Depending on real life events, there may be some gaps between Season Reviews, but I’ll do my best to intersperse those with video posts. I’m very likely going to need to lean on some of you for moral support during this incomprehensibly long journey, and I’ll go ahead and thank you in advance for that. My job for you, the reader, is to not let me quit! If you seem to notice my morale dropping perilously low, please be sure to smack me upside the head and remind me of the greater goal here (which is to make Wales awesome).

I’d like to thank you all for your support, and I’m extremely excited to begin this quest (I think it’s epic enough to be called a quest, no?)!

Oh a writer on this forum chose the wales challenge. This means that my story on the forums wont be so interesting. Hmm

Nonsense, just because I’m doing a Welsh story doesn’t mean yours will be any less valuable.

Well this would be the biggest FM achievement ever should those goals be reached. I’d love to see you get even half way there mate. This will be an excellent story and I just hope you can do it. Imagine, Wales on a par with the big four…that would change the World in RL ;)

    Hi Stromson,

This is a really interesting challenge you are going to take. Well your goals are not easy at all, but I think that if you manage to actually fulfill them, then you might have made the toughest task ever accopmlished in the game. I will be following your story ever since you make your first post. Good Luck!

Should be an interesting challenge, would be really hard to win the Champions League though, not much money to be gained from the Welsh league, will look forward to it

glad wales is the challenge. maybe, as an extra incentive, you could update us on the wales national team to see if they improve as the league rep goes up. maybe even take charge one day? looking foward to it

That’s probably one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever seen anyone set themselves. Good luck and I look forward to it :)

Wow! It’s gonna be quite a challenge to get all the tasks done. I have once tried managing in Wales on FM09, took me 6 seasons to qualify out of Europa League group stage, although with dynamic rep, it might get a bit easier, still on a par with San Marinese challenge, good luck!
