New Game, New Story — The Start of My Career With The Latics

Hello my friends, and I have a new story to tell you. Unfortunately I managed to save a mess around game over my Liverpool game by accident. Happily however, it means that I have now got a new story to tell you. I was already managing Oldham in a sort of side game for when I was bored of my Liverpool game, so I now have a story prepared and ready for you already.

I have already played until the end of November, so I can give you a quick update of the first few months now. In the summer I signed eight players, including three loanees, they were: Febian Brandy, who has been an inspired signing so far, I hope to extend his loan when it expires in January, Rhys Murphy, who has been disappointing, only scoring one goal so far. These were both signed originally on 6 month loan deals and I think I will let Murphy go back again without trying to keep him here longer. The other loan signing in the summer was Ritchie De Laet, he was pretty good but has had to go back as his deal was only a short one and couldn’t be extended. I have replaced him with Martin Kelly, who is currently injured.

I started with little money, but after selling Kelvin Lomax and Ryan Brooke I had a bit to spend and I cashed in right away. 30k was spent on attacking midfielder Sandrinho, he has been a great signing.

You can see his value has soared, what a bargain! I currently play him as a centre midfielder in a 4-4-2 formation, with the setting of Advanced Playmaker.

The only other money was spent on Martin Hansen, 14k from Liverpool. He doesn’t play much due to the fact I signed this guy, Bryn Halliwell, on a free transfer.

He has been good so far, a solid player who has firmly established himself as the number one goalie.

Another free signing was veteran centre back Dejan Stefanovic. He has played very well alongside a dodgy Hazell in defence, he makes up for his lack of pace with good stats everywhere else.

The only other signing was Scottish centre mid Gareth Williams, he hasn’t been used much, in fact he’s only played twice, both as a sub, he is only a back up player.

So after those signings and some decent friendly results, it was time to start the season.

We started the season well, only one defeat, all the other games were won. It was nice to see all the players chipping in, but Taylor was probably the best player of my first month in charge of Oldham.

September was a much worse month, we lost three games, and got hammered at Bristol Rovers. The game that stands out is the Carlisle game, it was a brilliant match, Abbott was fantastic and Taylor nicked all three points in the last minute.

October was a far better month, we won all games but one, being knocked out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy by Huddersfield. The stand out player was Brandy, he really hit top form, scoring 7 goals including a fantastic hat trick against a very good Southampton team that won us the game.

November was only a short month, but it was quite a poor one, we lost two games and went out of the FA Cup. Once again everyone chipped in with goals, but without the injured Sandrinho we struggled for creativity in the league.

We currently sit third then, I am happy with our start, particulary as the board only expected us to finish in mid table, as did the media.

We have the traditionally busy festive period coming up, it will stretch our squad, I hope we can cope, we have some tricky games, particularly the Leeds game.

That’s all for now then, I hope you will follow my Oldham career in a similar way you followed my story with Liverpool, I am looking forward to a long and hopefully successful career with the Latics, I aim to be in the Premiership within 4 seasons.

Thanks for reading, I will be away at the weekend so probably will not post until next week.

    Hi Laxeyman
Well this was unexpected, but it’s nice to see anyways. Sandrinho and Williams are really good singings for the lower league and it looks like you have got off to a great start. Looking forward to reading more of this story for sure. Enjoy your weekend away.

Hi Kevin, thanks this certainly was unexpected, but I’m looking forward to it. Sandrinho is a great signing, he could serve well in the Championship, if we get there in the next couple of seasons.
Funnily enough, I am going away to watch Oldham in a game against Brighton. I am sure I’ll enjoy it.

Kevin, thanks, but they are currently 17th so I don’t want to be like that. I think the players are slightly better on FM than they are in real life.

    Hi Laxeyman,
surprised to see you with a new team but looking forward to your career. Should be yough but very rewarding. With the form your team is in you might sneak into a promotion place. Anyway good luck and I cant wait to see how your team do this season.

ps. have you stopped the Liverpool game all together?

@Darren, I hope we can get into the automatic places, but a play off spot is probably more realistic. I would have continued with the Liverpool game, but when I load it up it loads a game with Fiorentina in Aug 2009. The problem is that I have accendentily saved over it, otherwise I’d still be playing it.
