Football Manager 2013 FAQ: release date, beta, demo, system requirements and more

Since there are lots of questions about FM 2013 being asked around, I thought it would be nice to have all the answers in one place. The list of questions and answers will be updated with new issues that might pop up from now until the official Football Manager 2013 release. Here we go:

What is the release date of Football Manager 2013?

November 2nd, midnight GMT.

Will there be a demo for FM 2013?

Yes, and it should be released one week before the full game. That would be on October 26th.

What are the system requirements for Football Manager 2013?

The following provisional requirements were published by SEGA but we’ll know the exact requirements once the demo will come out.

PC System Requirements

  • CPU: 1.6GHZ (XP) / 2.2GHZ (VISTA/W7/W8) :
  • MEMORY: XP/VISTA/W7/W8 : 1.0GB
  • HDD: 2GB

Mac System Requirements

  • OS : OS X 10.6.8/10.7.X/10.8.X
Will Football Manager 2013 include the Premier League logo and name?

No. Unfortunately EA Sports still have an exclusive deal with the Premier League, so any other games are not allowed to use the name and logo. The same goes for the German national team, the real players will not be included due to the same licensing issues.

What are the new features in FM 2013?

There are quite a few to be honest. You can keep an eye on our FM 2013 News to stay up to date with the new features that are being announced.

Is it true that there will be paid features in Football Manager 2013?

That is true, yes. There will be so-called “unlockables”, but they are entirely optional and can be used only in the new FM Classic mode, not in the full career game.

Can I pre-order FM 2013?

Yes, you can. We’re offering it at a special price at the moment, just 27 pounds (digital download). If you pre-order now you will receive a beta version of the game two weeks before the actual release.

Will FM 2013 be available on DVD?

Yes, it will be available on DVD but you will have to activate the game through Steam before playing. DVD copies can be pre-ordered from here.

Official Answers from Sports Interactive

What exactly is the FM 13 pre order?

Anyone who pre orders (or pre purchases) the game through a participating retail partner will be given a beta key which will allow early access to the game. The early access period will be 2 weeks – so allowing people who pre order to start playing the game two weeks before its actual release as a product.

What do I get from my chosen retailer when I pre order?

This will depend on where you pre order your copy of FM13. If you pre order in a participating store in person, you should be given an FM13 branded card, that will have a unique code printed on its reverse.

If you pre order with a retailer on line, for a boxed copy to be delivered then you will be e mailed a code prior to the beta access going live. The time you receive the code may vary depending on the retailer, so please check with the retailer in question if you are unsure.

If you pre purchase a Digital Download version of the product then your code will also be sent to you electronically via e mail.

How will I know when I can access it?

We expect the early access to be available 2 weeks prior to the actual release date of the game. The best place is to check where you can keep up to date with both release date information, and information about the live date for early access.

How do I access the beta?

To access the beta you will need the unique code received or sent to you electronically from the retail partner. All printed cards and e mailed codes come with instructions on how to access the beta. You can also check at for instructions on access, but you will need your unique code and internet access in order to begin the install.

How long does the beta code take to install?

This will very much depend on your internet connection speed. For example with an average speed of 2mb/s it should take 20 minutes. Please note however this is only a guide and it will vary.

How much space will the beta code take up on my PC/Mac?

Around 2gb of hard drive space will be required to install the beta code

What happens when the game is released if I have pre ordered a boxed copy of the game?

When you collect / receive your boxed copy, you will need to install the game disc. You will be prompted to follow the on screen instructions which will require you to input the activation code that will be printed onto the game manual. Once the game disc is activated, it will recognise your beta game and will allow you to continue play from you left off in your beta game.

What happens when the game is released if I have pre purchased the Digital Download version of the product?

Your game will automatically update from BETA to final version on the launch day

When does the beta game finish?

The early access will be switched off on the Monday, following the games release. You will not be able to continue playing beyond this point unless you have installed the copy you pre ordered and activated it.

What happens to my beta game post release?

Your beta game will remain as a saved game once the access is switched off. This means that you can continue it at any time if you install the copy of the game you pre ordered. You won’t be able to continue playing the beta from the Monday after release, but it will still be there as soon as you install and activate the copy you pre ordered.

Can I save my beta game and carry on when install the full version?

Yes. See above answer.

Can I play all game modes in the beta?

The career mode, and new Classic mode including Challenge mode will all be playable in the beta. However it is not the full and final version, so some elements will not be activated until you install the pre ordered copy.

What if I change my mind and cancel my pre order?

If you cancel your pre order and choose not to install a final version of FM13, then you will no longer have access to the game from the Monday following release.

What if my code for the beta doesn’t work?

If for some reason you encounter a problem when trying to access the beta, then as long as it’s when the beta has been opened (two weeks prior to the game launch) please contact the

How long will I have to wait for the full game to download, following my beta install?

As with the beta install, this will depend on the speed of you internet connection so times will vary. We estimate an average install time from beta to complete game would be approx. 20 minutes.

So I’ve been sitting here waiting for the daily feature vlog & then I remembered it was a Saturday :(

1). I just wondered whether you knew if Challenge Mode was on the Demo. Seeing as you normally only play the first half of the season, and Challenge mode is based in the second half, I just wondered :).
2). About the Demo, last year you could continue your saved game into the real game, can u do that again this year? (I hope it actually works for me this time if u can)

Just curious, will Japan have real players as well? Because they have some license just like Germany and I was hoping that the rising sun is given the permission to have real players on FM 2013

Cant wait fo fm13!!!!!!!!!!

has anyone outside europe had difficulties when trying to buy the game on the direct links from the website here? my credit card keeps getting rejected due to security problems…

Hi Johnny, long time no talk, how are you?
It seems you’re ready for another FM season, I’ve got mixed feelings about some of the new features of the game, hope for some match engine improvements of course, but some of them seem nothing more than cosmetic to me.
Only time will tell probably.
However I’m ready too for a new year, some months ago I had some issues with the domain name of my old blog so I decided to start from scratch, I’d be glad if you could add me to your links page.

I clicked on the pre-order link (Amazon) which says FM2013 supports Win Vista and Win 7. But, the system requirement above on this page suggests that it supports WinXP too.

I’m running XP and don’t want to get another OS for a game… although I love the game so much.

Does it run on XP?

So, I can get a DVD from a retailer and which includes the code to activate the game. Do I understand this correctly? It’s very much like FM2012 last year?

When can I buy a DVD from a retailer then? Also on Nov 2?

A bit confused.

Thank you very much.

Slightly unfortunate timing for me.

FM2013 released November 2nd.
Halo 4 (already preordered) November 6th.
My dad’s birthday November 6th.
My cousin’s birthday November 12th.
CoD Black Ops 2 released November 13th.

Fortunately I’m starting in a new higher paid job at work soon, hope I get enough money from it to be able to afford most of that!

How do i get my players back from holidays?
