Afan Lido: The Future?

Hey guys, just a really quick opinion-seeking post (along with an explanation). In light of recent events that have made my tenure at Afan Ldio unsustainable, I have a pair options:

1) Search for another club (Spoiler alert: I found a good one)

2) Restart with Afan Lido using database edits (See below for detail explanation)

Now I know the phrase «database edits» immediately makes folks suspicious, but here’s what I had in mind with them (this is all using the SI-provided Editor):

1) Adjust league attendances to match reality (Versus the seemingly arbitrary number SI pulled out).

2) Significantly boost the «maximum» attendance stat to actually give the league room to grow. Most of the teams are capped out at under 1000, which just wouldn’t realistic if the league suddenly started competing on an international level.

3) Slightly modify Afan Lido’s home kit, because I hate the silly chevron.

And that’s it really, nothing beyond correcting the clearly (in my mind) broken attendance figures, and a minor cosmetic change. I would of course provide a copy of this database to anyone who wanted to use it (as in I’d just include a download link when I restarted), or double check my work.

So basically, I just wanted to get an opinion on what y’all would like to see. I have no preference either way, but I suppose I should I also reveal the team that hired me following my resignation from Afan Lido…

Looking forward to your thoughts!

I was with Afan Lido until I saw the team, FC United of Manchester.

Go for the new job mate, at least that’s what I would do!

      That’s probably what I’ll do then. :-p

I guess that restarting would make no sense, really. Having the same team, going through the same phase is like playing the same game again and personally I would not do it. It didn’t work for whatever reasons, it’s time to move forward. My 2 cents :)

Thanks Calin, tempted to agree with you.

I vote for option 1, after screwing over the Lido chairman of course :D

I think go with option one now that things have gone this far.

Just think of it as a lesson for the future, that SI seem to have put some really silly limits on the Welsh League. As I commented on your previous post, the real figures for Afan Lido are much better in reality, and they’re having a real struggle. The absolute worst figure so far was I think 161. So attendances under 100 when you’re the best team in the league is just plain wrong.

Yeah, your figures really solidified the deal for me. After you gave me those, I started having a look around the other teams, and so far everyone seems to be being shorted by 100-200 people per game. Not sure what SI had in their heads there…

    1. Destroy Lido
    2. Take over FC United

P.S How can you pisk FC United sinde they play in a league lower than BSN/S?

    • Stromson

It’s 2014 in my save, and FC United had earned promotion to the BSN by then. They were sitting 21st when they sacked their manager, and they hired me after I resigned from Afan Lido.

OK then. Go and own Manchester!
…I hope you made your former chairman suffer…

I hope you chose to manage FC United, because even if you tinker with the editor you’ll still have problems in the Welsh league.

    Go with FC United!!

Giving up so soon? While I do get it I also remember that you told us at the start of the challenge that it would be near impossible. The attendance thingy is really pis poor however.

I suppose you could call it giving up, but I’ve really just gotten sidetracked with a vendetta against my former chairman. I still have every intention of going back to Wales one day, there just weren’t any jobs available there.

If there is any invisible option for you to carry on/start again on the same challenge then I pick that. This story was progressing well and I began feeling evermore confident that you would one day complete it. I understand you chairman has been crazy and the game has really made it virtually impossible to do but I still would have loved to see you continue. If you think about the challenge in reality, would it be possible? Almost certainly not, in that respect maybe the game is realistic, perhaps not in the specifics in what has made it so but in the final outcome nonetheless. Any chance of a 3rd option?

    • Stromson

      9 ноября, 2011 at 12:53

Hmm, not sure I follow you there Alex. The challenge isn’t completely over, it’s just been temporarily sidetracked. Don’t worry, I still have a master plan. ;-)

I’d say start completely fresh. The Welsh league has no potential so put it down to experience. FM 2012 has only been out three weeks so in my humble opinion it’s not a step backward to start over. I know you could bring us a really great story so give it some thought. What about South America, maybe a team from Chile for example. We have no stories from that region. End of the day..your decision mate.

    • Stromson

      9 ноября, 2011 at 12:54

I’ll admit I briefly considered it, but I just don’t care for the way the South American leagues are set up (I hate that whole Apertura and Clausera thing).

I would say a new job as you have already done aswell as you can and I dont think the changes would make that much of a difference.

I dont know the club you have chosen so it will be interesting to see them and learn a little bit so I would say go for them.

Of course South Africa would be better! :D

LoL, But go with which you feel you would enjoy more.

Haha, I love how much you adore South Africa. :-P

Definitely FC United. Enjoy your new career.

I dislike database changes, not the cosmetic ones of course, it’s like playing football with your own rules, I know SI database is far from being perfect, but it’s our touchstone, the only one we have, to compare our careers and understand how well we’re doing.

    I’d go for the «little red devils».

    • Stromson

      9 ноября, 2011 at 12:58

That’s a fair point paine, and it honestly wasn’t my preferred option. I’ll be going with FC United. :)

what happened to encouraging stromo to keep going when he wanted to quit guys? thats what he said and you arent doing it. reconsider stromson, you can do it with Lido!

    • Stromson

      9 ноября, 2011 at 16:23

Haha, thanks for remembering that! Don’t worry though, I’m not quitting because it’s too hard, I’m taking a detour because my Chairman was a jerk of legendary proportions. I have a master plan still…just remember that revenge is a dish best served cold. ;-)

Go for FC United I suppose, by the way what about the Irish leagues? Do they have the same problem as the Welsh leagues?
