Blimey this has taken a while to post.
Appologies to everyone, but with the new story and all the organising/editing that comes with it, its been quite tough to get another post out but I have a corker of an episode here for you today as I round off Varbergs BOIS end of season adventure. Last time I left you, we were going strong in all competitions and on course again to retain both domestic titles. Let’s get on with it..

Results of the league first then..

Oh yes!!!! Cmon. That sea of green is telling you that not only have Varbergs BOIS retained that title for the 10th time, but have also completed their first 100% league record, completing an outstanding 30 wins in all. I’m totally gob-smacked in all honestly. The league looks as though it is getting stronger but the players have matured and the consistency they have shown will rival no other in Swedish premier league division history!

A look at the league table shows the dominance we have had during the season, with a +88 goal difference! We smashed domestic records along the way too, with the most amount of goals scored in a season (101), while equalling the amount conceded (13). There will be no other season like that I can assure you, as I am pretty positive even we wont be able to better that next year. I’m a very happy manager :D

Team of the year:

Although, not as happy as I could have been. Remember I haven’t managed to win Manager of the year yet?
Monthly accolades:

Yearly winner:

Well, you can only do so much to try and win it.. Apparently, I fell short.

Next up, its cup time and we were on to see if we could win the domestic double! Here are the results of that run:

Woo! Another trophy to add to the ever expanding domestic cabinet. Scoring no less than 3 goals on the way to retaining the cup really showed that my lads meant business and I was more than chuffed with the way they performed. Total domination! Honestly, it is getting a little mundane in terms of domestic success, but in fairness that’s not really what I look forward to in a season now. A Champions League trophy is the prize that I have fixed in my eyes now and after tasting Europa League success a couple of seasons ago, its the only thing keeping my save going. I am so determined to get it to Varberg, ill stay as long as it takes ;).

Anyway.. Onto that European adventure and if you can remember, this was the group that FM had given us:
Inter Milan
Varbergs BOIS
Fenerbahçe
Genk

So, on with the first match! We visted Genk for the first match of Group B hoping to get a solid result there to ensure that we started off the Champions League campaign with a bang. 4th seed, not much trouble eh?

A lot harder than I thought it would be! We went into the half 1-0 up through a brilliant Svensson solo effort but conceeded just after the half after a lapse in the defense. Was only a couple of penalties that saved our blushes before Genk made the last few minutes interesting as we hung on to clintch those all important 3 points. Next up was Inter Milan at home..

Decent draw, but it was a fantastic game of football! Our BOIS came back from going 1-0 down early on to winning 2-1 at one point. Milan equalised almost instantly however and dashed hopes of a historic win! A point was brilliant however and although going for 1st may be out of our reach seeing as we had to go to the San Siro, it strengthened our ability to qualify.

Fenerbahçe next then, and with them gaining 3 points from their first two games, I needed to win to make sure of qualifying for the next round:

..And we did just that. Two solid wins that probably flattered the opposition in all fairness were what we got after goals from Lecomte, Belyakov and Taylor. Qualifying was sealed and I was chuffed! But would it be first, or second?

After a 2-0 home win against Genk, our final game would decide the fate. A game at the San Siro, and strangely enough all we needed was a point due to Milan loosing at Genk in the previous match.

Big win! We deserved it in all fairness too as we completely outclassed them in their own back yard. A couple of goals from Lecomte with another from his new strike partner Belyakov sealed first place after a late fightback by the home side. Get in! An easier route..

Right?

Wrong.

Argh! Why do SI have to screw me over like this?!
After a deep breath, and a look at their results, they hadn’t done too well. They were beatable and that was the only thing from making me loose it ;)
And they say you have an easier draw if you finish first.. pssh.

30-0-0 is pretty impressive!! :) Never done that as I simulate all league games and many of cup ones, due to the easiness to win it. Brilliant campaign in Europe, but what an awful draw :p Wish you good luck (you willl need it! :D)

    Cheers,

      Thanks mate :)
Yeah I know what you mean. In all fairness, I have never actually simulated a game on the save as I’m scared my Assistant will sod things up. Just about control for me..
Barcelona will be tough, fingers crossed though! :D

You had an amazing run in the Champions League group, you surely deserved to meet an easier opponent in February… Anyway, if you managed to beat Inter I can’t see why you wouldn’t pull off an upset against Barcelona! Good luck!

P.S.: I’m not commenting on your domestic achievements anymore, you’re way better than the other teams and that’s probably why they don’t give you that award :P

Tell me about it. Inter got Chelsea, so I don’t really know who was worst off. We’ll see come February I guess ;).

P.S Your not wrong.. Although I’m still stumped on why I didnt manage to win it in the early days?

I guess they knew what was coming for them and they just wanted to discourage you :P

If you can go through Barca then you will establish yourself as genuine contenders for Champions League (maybe Barcelona have deteriorated somewhat over the years though, you’ve gotten some good South American midfield talent coming in, you had to release some of your old players but they will remain in your club’s history, so looks like all your facilities are going to be at their peak soon, did you get any good regens coming into your team?

Absolutely. Well, we will have to see in February really. The only way to gauge really ;).

As for the regens, all the academy players are horribly sub-par which is why I’m bringing in youth players from South America. They should do me well though as some have cracking potential :)

Unlucky Jake, that was a real tough draw in the CL, but you never know what might happen as Barcelona must be weaker having finished 2nd. Your league form is outstanding and I believe your form in general could cause an upset. Also brilliant signings especially Oliveira who looks great. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Darren, I hope that our form can be carried over into Europe! :)

Woot, an update to my favorite story! League domination almost isn’t worth mentioning anymore, but those were some excellent Champion’s League results! It’s a bummer about your draw, but I’m excited to see how you’re able to perform against such tough opposition. Transfers are looking solid as always!

      Aw, thanks mate :)
I know what you mean about the domestic cups though.. I might just start posting only about Europe and the obvious transfers/news. Keeps things a little more fresh and means I can go through a season quicker!

Ironic, you finish top and still get a really tough draw!!

Great win over Inter though! It seems your team is developing well every year so good luck against Barca!

I am in the same boat as Johnny, no need to comment on your domestic form as are just so dominant!!

Great to see you improve those facilities once again, you should be close to producing some young talented Swedish players soon!!

    As always, good luck!!

That’s always the trouble with us, never get the run of the green.
Ahh well, we will get there eventually. Probably not at the expense of Barca though ;).

Thanks Ana, we are getting closer to finally producing the talent, but we aren’t quite there yet :(.

Great Champions League run Excessive, just a shame you got Barca, still, you’ve got a chance against them, after all Messi is retired now ;) Obviously you were brilliant in the league, and good luck v Barca!

    Hey Excessive
Good champions league run, but FM always has to pair you with Barca. Somehow, you still did not win manager of the year. Do you have the latest patches?

    • Excessive

      31 мая, 2011 at 17:32

I know? Still, you have to take what comes I guess.
I am on the 11.2 patch as that is when I started the game.. Unfortunately.
Doesn’t matter, I keep winning the monthly one which is a consolation I guess ;)

Haa, well done on winning every league game, I was hoping you’d do it… Shocking that you won every ‘MoM’ but yet did not win ‘MoY’… You did fantastic to finish ahead of Inter, but I hate when you get a difficult opponent despite finishing top! So annoying,, :-( Anyhow, I’m sure you’ll trash Barce ;) Good luck lad!
