SV Wehen: The Set Up

Hello friends and welcome to my new story which features SV Wehen Weisbaden of the German Third Division (lowest league available) who from here on in I’ll refer to as just SV Wehen.

My knowledge of German football is next to none aside from the obvious in Bayern Munich etc though what drew me to Germany was a) real life performance in the World Cup by young players and b) every team seems to have a good youth set up with an academy.

In this story unlike my others I’ve set myself a few ground rules in terms of playing the game so as to add some interest and perhaps a little difficulty as well. Aside from Germany I’ve loaded up Holland, Austria and Switzerland, all as playable as these countries border my team and so I figure I may be able to send some scouts there.

So here are the “rules”

  1. Hiring of staff to be done by placing an advert in the job centre.
  2. All new players signed must be recommended by staff either from the staff meeting option or discovered by the scouting team.
  3. Can only look for players in countries which fall within the Boards directive.
  4. Develop my own tactics and training
  5. No use of filters.

These rules are perhaps a little tough but it’s the way I’ve decided to play the game this time and is by no means meant as a suggestion or criticism of how other people play. I needed to shake things up a bit after the disappointment of losing my Huddersfield save a couple of weeks ago.

The first thing I’m taking a look at is my staff and immediately I can see that I need to improve my scouting team of which I’m allowed six by the board and also my Physiotherapists could be replaced as well

On the coaching side of things I could do with improvements in all areas so it looks like I’ll be busy down at the job centre placing adverts.

As for the Wehen squad itself I won’t go into any detail now but may single out players along the way as I’m anxious to get things going with them. The team pretty much meets the needs of the formation I wish to play which is a 4-2-3-1 and will somewhat mirror my Huddersfield tactic which was Fluid and Attack minded based with cross balls being drilled. With Wehen though I’m going to play through the middle as opposed to down both flanks

Here’s where we play our home games at the Brita Stadium

So that’s it for the Set Up and my next posting will feature The Build and the Pre-Season results.

As always thanks for reading at it feels good to be back.

@Kevin, welcome back! I think your new story is going to be very interesting. You have chosen to play by some tough rules there and I wish you the best of luck. However, I strongly recommend you to upgrade your youth facilities because Germany have some real exciting youngsters coming through the ranks. I don’t quite understand rule number 3, do you mean thaat you can only sign players from Holland,Austria and Switzerland? I’m not to great at Geography, but isn’t France a border to Germany too? I wish you look in this exciting story.

I’m so happy to see you playing with enthusiasm again Kevin, it will surely be a great story. The rules that you imposed seem to be pretty harsh, that will make the game even more difficult but even more rewarding. Otherwise, the stadium looks nice and cozy, I wish you the best of luck!

Hi Kevin, good too see you back, and a really interesting story you’ve got too! The rules you’ve set make it quite difficult, but I’m sure you’ll do well, good luck!

    Hi Sears
Thanks for your comments. Wehen already has good youth facilities but will take your advice and build on them when money becomes available. I decided not to choose France simply because I always do. If you go to the Board Room screen on the game it tells you where you can send scouts which in my case was Central Europe but I decided on Holland as well. Sort of keeping in line with lower league management rules that are on other web sites. Scout your borders only. Hope that helps?

    @ Johnny,
Yes the rules are harsh but I just needed to do something different to spice up my «game time». Each to their own way I guess but it will be interesting to see how the story plays out.

    @ Laxeyman
Thanks, its good to be back. I may have set myself an impossible task but we will see what happens good or bad. The main thing is I’m playing and writing again and for now that’s satisfying enough.

Kevin, I thought about the scouting rules and I guess they are alright if you want to add realism but it’s also realistic to say that a manager might have satellite TV and could watch international Under 21 or Under 18 games for example. I had that idea because I know a (real) Romanian manager that spends most of his time watching obscure leagues on satellite :)

The Rules Could Prove To Be Tough, But I’m Sure You’ll Be Able To Manage And Rise Through The German Leagues!
Funnily Enough, I Have Started A Game In The German 3rd Division (Inspired By You :P), And I Started As The Same Team As You, Without Knowing Until I Came Back To Check The Site! LOL
When Choosing Teams That I Don’t Really Know Well, I Choose Based On The Stadium Name, And The Brita((in)) Stadium Was My Choice This Time!

What an interesting choice Kevin. The rules is indeed harsh but there are a lot of good players in the countries that you had chosen so i will be looking forward to your transfer news.

    Hi Ravenie
Yes, I’m just trying to do something a little different and see how it goes.

@ Johnny, I’ll just go out to Best Buy now and pick up a satellite dish. LOL!

@ Martin, Nice to hear from you mate. Well what a coincidence that you chose the same team. I picked them because the name was short and easy to say :) Anyway good luck in your game. I’m sure you will do better than me.

@ Lye, yes I’ve set myself up for a tough assignment but felt I needed to make a change to freshen things up other than changing the game background.
