Premier League and European Results 2010 — 2011

Hello my friends! After finishing my first season with Vauxhall Motors FC I thought about having a look at what happened on the bigger stage during the season in which we struggled to get out of Blue Square North and make a step up the divisional ladder. Then I thought that some of you might share my curiosity so I’ll post the major events of the 2010/2011 season in the Premier League and European football here.

Before moving on we have to look at 2010’s awards, the FIFA World Player of the Year award went to Lionel Messi! I couldn’t agree more with that although he might not receive the award in real-life this year.

Four Barcelona players made it into the World Team of the Year while Frank Lampard was the only Premier League player that was picked into the best eleven.

On to the Premier League then, guess who won it in 2011? That’s right, Chelsea :( Liverpool finished as surprising runners-up while Everton did very well to finish in the top six.

The Premier League team of the season had no less than five Chelsea players in it but the biggest surprise is Fulham‘s Bobby Zamora who netted 27 goals in the Premiership!

Nottingham Forest made a superb Carling Cup run and managed to reach the final but they were beaten by Manchester United. Johnny Evans bagged a brace in that game, have a look at the highlights!

Manchester United won the FA Cup as well after beating Wolves in the final with Javier Hernandez scoring the winning goal.

The Europa League saw Atletico Madrid going all the way to the final again but this time it was Italian side Napoli who won the trophy after coming back from one goal behind.

The Champions League final was a nervy affair between Jose Mourinho‘s Real Madrid and Lyon. Real were down to 10 men after only 17 minutes but they held firm and grabbed the trophy after the penalty shoot-out.

I hope that you have enjoyed this quick and rather unusual update, now I’ll go back to finding players who might be willing to sign contracts of under 250 pounds per week at Vauxhall Motors FC :)

I wasn’t curious to see what went on in the MLS :) I hope they’re still playing with a regular round football though :)

Millwall won the Championship while Ipswich and Middlesbrough also got promoted. Southampton finished second in League One :) (Rickie Lambert scored 25 goals)

            Millwall. My Family’s team. <3

I wish Rickie was that prolific for me.

Messi also won the player of the year in my previous game…

If I may recommend a player for you I would say you should take a look at Kim Won-Sik and david biaou…could prove to be very good signing for you…and they are usually free, but if they are not they are worth the price you pay…

Thanks for the review Johnny, no suprise to see Messi win player of the year. Bit of a suprise to see only 1 Premier League player in the team of year, looks like Spain is now the dominant league on your game :(

Well, Spain is dominating football both on the pitch and on the computer screens, just look at Ana Garcia :)

Thanks for the review Johnny :) do you have any tips on how i can stop my best players leaving to other clubs ? I’ve managed to get Norwich into the CL but the likes of Barca and Madrid keep trying to take my players!

Well, you can’t stop the big clubs from trying… What I do is tie the best prospects in the squad to long term contracts (five years) so at least I’d get some good money for them when the time comes. Some people increase the asking price to a prohibitive level to prevent clubs from making offers but I don’t do that.

Interesting! No C.Ronaldo in the World team and Wolves got a Uefa spot.
Liverpool in second place, diffirent from now :P
and I would have thought that Real Madrid could have won Lyon easily.

    But interesting, thanks Johnny :)

Yeah, Lyon seem to be much better in FM 2011 than they actually are at the moment.

Congrats with Vauxhall! I have been watching your blogs for a while and started a rags to riches story of my own………with Queens Park! They are an amatuer team in the Scottish Third Division. So far I have won back to back promotions in the first 2 seasons and am now in Division One, favourites for the drop.
I am still an amatuer club which means that I can not sign players on contracts worth money, they play for free! This has proven very tricky to manage, due to the fact that as soon as any of my players play well then a bigger club snaps them up without a fee or compensation coming my way.
Unsure how to get the board to turn the club at least Semi-Pro so that I can start to build a team!?!?!

You seem to have an extremely interesting career there, I have never been in charge of an amateur club. I don’t know if you can turn professional, maybe only when you climb further through the leagues. For instance, in my stories starting from Blue Square North or South the clubs were semi-professional but once we got to League Two the switch to «professional» was made automatically. I’m quite curious to see how your career will go, please keep us posted. Best of luck!

Yeah, the Motormen will bring an end to their domination! :) I just realized that I never had Messi in Football Manager, he’s my favourite player…
