Arsenal: Pre-Season Friendlies and Transfers

Hello again folks and it’s Calum with my Arsenal story :D As you know, I did a squad analysis of Arsenal in my first post and I came to the conclusion that we needed a new goalkeeper, another centre back and maybe another winger.

Season Expectations

I selected my season expectation to be ‘Title Challenge’, which gave me a reasonable budget to use in the transfer market. Although more money would have been preferable, we already have a strong squad and very few positions needed strengthening. So now, onto the transfers.

Adil Rami

Adil Rami is a very strong and good centre-back from France. I thought he was a bit of a snap at £6.25million and I saw off competition from Chelsea and Man Utd for this transfer. I am delighted at buying him as he should bulk up the defence so that we are less vulnerable to strong attackers such as Drogba or Kevin Davies.

Guillermo Ochoa

Ochoa is very well known in the football manager world. He has decent goalkeeping attributes but has great positioning and agility. He is like a ninja :) He should be good for us in goals and again was a snap at just under £6million.

I couldn’t find any good wingers for not a lot of money so gave up on that position and then looked for a youngster to buy. I found this man, Kevin. He is only 18 and has great technical ability, and is touted as the next Xavi :D Because of this, I just couldn’t resist buying him.

As I told you, I would buy some coaches so that are youngsters can develop into world-class players. I promoted some coaches from the youth setup as well and this is now my star ratings for both the first-team and the youth team training.

I have pretty good coaching ratings now and I will put my players on the schedule that Johnny put up so that their ratings improve!

Pre-Season Friendlies

I let my assistant take charge of the friendlies and we did okay. There is one noticeable thing though, we conceded no goals :D Hopefully we can carry that into the Premier League.

Thanks for reading, and my next post shall be about my first 1 or 2 months in charge and I will also post my tactics!

Guillermo Ochoa = the next David Seaman

I certainly hope so :D

Johnny Karp

Those three signings are very good, great job for little money. I’m very curious to see how Kevin will develop since he’s one of the players that I included in my under 18 wonderkids shortlist:
Best of luck!

Yes, I saw him on another blog as well and the fact that he could be the next Xavi meant it was a no-brainer signing :)

Good signings Calum, Ochoa and Rami will mean that you concede less goals, and Kevin is a great prospect. I reckon that you can challenge for the title, and maybe even win it, good luck!

Thanks Laxeyman!

Hi Calum
Naturally, I love your new signing Kevin and he has more hair than me too!
Good luck as you start the regular season!

Haha that did make me laugh :D Thanks for the humorous comment and for your support!!

Great signings Calum. Adil Rami is a bargain for just £6 million, and Ochoa is a fantastic keeper. Good luck!

Darren Smith

Hey Calum, I like your new signings. Kevin seems to have potential but we’ll see how fast he develops. My fav has to be Rami, that guy will be awsome in defence!

Ana Garcia

You have bought very well, nice too see another Mexican at a top club in the premier league my dad would be very happy! :)

Best of luck on the season!

Hi Calum, some great signings there!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your team have conceded 0 goals in the pre-season which is quite a achievement!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Calum,

Adil Remi is a strong defender who should be able to do a good job. The main weakness of Arsenal is at goal and defence. Hopefully you have solved these two areas with the signings. Looking forward to a good start. Good luck.
