Huddersfield Town: July 2009

Hello my friends and welcome to my new game. After a couple of weeks away going through a FM mid-life crises I’ve finally chosen and settled with my new team which is Huddersfield Town from League 1, though  don’t expect any quadruples from this blog!

Nicknamed The Terriers, Huddersfield became the first English team to win three successive league titles back in the 1920’s and for most of their history bounced between the old First and Second Divison, finally slipping from the top flight in the early seventies and continued spiraling down the leagues.

So without any further ado let’s get down to business. On taking over the team I was shocked for two reasons. Firstly I was given a whopping £400,000 transfer budget which is huge in my opinion for a League 1 team and secondly they have a really nice stadium which I hope to fill up by playing some good football.

As you can see from below I told the board that I could get the team promoted so they increased both the transfer and salary budget which is just great and as usual I will spend every penny of it.

For the most part Huddersfield appeared to have a pretty decent team from the outset but show me the money and I’m into to the transfer market. Below then are my pre-season signings and as of the end of July I’m yet to sell anybody though there aren’t that many players in the reserve squad to try and move on.

A lot of these players you will easily recognize from your own games so I’ll just highlight the two Polish and two Moroccan signings for your attention and consideration.

First up is Piotr Kuklis who has already won two caps for his country and has good mental and physical attributes.

His fellow countryman is Marcin Kikut who will play alongside Kuklis in midfield though is really the back up right midfielder.

The two Moroccan players are both central midfielders which I now have a lot of players to choose from in that area of the field. I think both of them are probably more defensive in nature and I shall employ them as more of a DMC with the option to switch to a more attacking midfielder if needs be.

With the transfers complete here’s how the pre-season results went. Only one defeat and that was against Birmingham but we had good results over Yorkshire rivals Rotherham and a surprise win against Cardiff City though I’ll try not to read too much into these results as once August arrives things can change quickly.

With pre-season done our opening game will be a difficult one away to Southend and our first home game we meet Southampton which could also be a tough encounter.

So that’s it for now and thanks for reading.

Hi Kevin, nice to see you back! Some really good signings there, Sandrinho and Stefanovic were fantastic for me in League One. I think you’ve got what it takes to go up, good luck!

Hi Kevin, you have made some really good signings there I really think that you could win the league with some of these players. Sandrinho should be a really good signing.

Hi Kevin, you have kept us waiting for long on your new team :) Finally your new story is up and i like Kabous from the screenshot that you post up. He looks like the perfect guy to break up opposition attacks. Probably can let us know what formation you intend to use for your season? Good luck on your new season ahead and i hope to see you promoted when the season ends.

    Hi Sam
I always enjoyed the Easter break so I’m glad to see that hasn’t changed since I left school which was a very long time ago.

    Hi Lye

Yes, it feels good to be back and my intention is to see this through until the next version of the game though with me anything can happen!
I really like both my Moroccan finds but Kabous does look pretty good.
As for the formation its a standard 442 and I’ll own up as it’s Laxeyman’s tactic. My own tactics never fare that well.

A good side you’ve chosen Kevin. In my Southampton days I got beat by them at the Galpharm but beat them at home. I’d advise playing Rhodes as a target man because he plays so well in the air. Promotion is inevitable I believe. Because so far everyone on this site has been promoted and never relegated.

    Ravenie
That’s true what you say about promotion but I’m not that confident at the outset even though I told the board we would go up.I’m going to concentrate on trying to bring a good story and if promotion comes my way then so be it. Thanks for the tip on Rhodes which I will use.

    Hi Johnny
I’m glad to get started again.I feel rejuvenated after a bad few weeks both from both a personal and game perspective so now I’m as excited as when I started my Swindon story. Also everyone on the site is such an amazing support, I wish they worked for me!

Dunno why but I like Huddersfield so I wish you luck. Just a suggestion, but when someones gunna start a new story, they should choose a team in a relagation fight, I find them quite interesting for some reason. This is linking on from what ravenie said as teams like notts county, huddersfield and Oldham are all expected to het promoted. Thanks

    Hi Joseph
I chose Huddefield because I actually remember when they were in the top flight and when they got relegated which was a very along time ago so that’s intially why I picked them. A big team that had fallen on hard times. To be honest I didn’t take much notice when I selected them about their chances but the board requested a mid table finish. Having said all that you do make a good and valid point which perhaps other newcomers will adopt and something I will consider more strongly next time though I’m happy you like the choice of team.

Joseph, I don’t think my Oldham were excepted to get promoted, we were predicted to finish13th and in real life were only just above the relegation zone. I was quite shocked that we went up, especially as easily as we did. However, Huddersfield are a good team, hopefully Kevin can take them up.

Sorry laxeyman, I didn’t realise that. I thought they were because you got them promoted. Isn’t it weird, as far as I can remember, no one has got relegated? This is want led me to my point. Thanks anyway

Joseph, yeah I suppose it is quite wierd. It might be because it’s relatively easy to get promoted in FM 2010, but I don’t really know.

Wow, the stadio pic looks really great. Don’t make the fans to be ashamed at the end of the season, Kevin :) Good luck to Huddersfield!
