Huddersfield Town: July 2009

Published on

Hello my friends and welcome to my new game. After a couple of weeks away going through a FM mid-life crises I’ve finally chosen and settled with my new team which is Huddersfield Town from League 1, though  don’t expect any quadruples from this blog!

Nicknamed The Terriers, Huddersfield became the first English team to win three successive league titles back in the 1920’s and for most of their history bounced between the old First and Second Divison, finally slipping from the top flight in the early seventies and continued spiraling down the leagues.

So without any further ado let’s get down to business. On taking over the team I was shocked for two reasons. Firstly I was given a whopping £400,000 transfer budget which is huge in my opinion for a League 1 team and secondly they have a really nice stadium which I hope to fill up by playing some good football.

As you can see from below I told the board that I could get the team promoted so they increased both the transfer and salary budget which is just great and as usual I will spend every penny of it.

For the most part Huddersfield appeared to have a pretty decent team from the outset but show me the money and I’m into to the transfer market. Below then are my pre-season signings and as of the end of July I’m yet to sell anybody though there aren’t that many players in the reserve squad to try and move on.

A lot of these players you will easily recognize from your own games so I’ll just highlight the two Polish and two Moroccan signings for your attention and consideration.

First up is Piotr Kuklis who has already won two caps for his country and has good mental and physical attributes.

His fellow countryman is Marcin Kikut who will play alongside Kuklis in midfield though is really the back up right midfielder.

The two Moroccan players are both central midfielders which I now have a lot of players to choose from in that area of the field. I think both of them are probably more defensive in nature and I shall employ them as more of a DMC with the option to switch to a more attacking midfielder if needs be.

With the transfers complete here’s how the pre-season results went. Only one defeat and that was against Birmingham but we had good results over Yorkshire rivals Rotherham and a surprise win against Cardiff City though I’ll try not to read too much into these results as once August arrives things can change quickly.

With pre-season done our opening game will be a difficult one away to Southend and our first home game we meet Southampton which could also be a tough encounter.

So that’s it for now and thanks for reading.
