Football Manager 2013 New Features Wishlist

Football Manager 2012 is a great game, we’ve all enjoyed it and most of us still are. But I can’t help thinking about the new game, Football Manager 2013, and the novelties that it will bring. What I want with this post is to create a collective and interactive wishlist of new features that we want in the game.

I’ll start with one feature, then you will add your wishes in the comments and I’ll then add the most interesting requests in the post.

Here’s the list:

1. Better set pieces management — I would like to have a more complex approach to set pieces, both attacking and defending. For instance, I’d like to be able to set up a free kick routine where a player could surprise the opposition by playing a pass down the flank, followed by another pass back to him and then a pass in the middle from where a decisive shot could be launched. Clear enough? :D Or maybe having a player lob the ball past the wall on a free kick, as a pass for somebody lurking behind the wall. That could be spectacular.

2. Job Interviews — Where when applying for a job you can have an actual interview and discuss transfer budget and your plans for the team, instead of just being rejected there and then. — suggested by Ed Wylie

3. Better reserves/youth team management — I would like it if I could just setup my reserve/youth lineups for their matches without taking over the team (would still like assistant/coach to play the match for me) as sometimes they do not pick players who need match fitness in my first team, not even on the subs bench! — suggested by CS Atlantis

4. Improved highlight uploads — It would be cool to be able to easily select chances as well as goals for YouTube. — suggested by Darren Smith

5. Adding Directors of Footballsuggested by Adam D, details in the comment

6. Position covering — When you have roaming players, especially if they are defenders (fullback, ball playing defenders) and you send them to attack, you should have an option to pick a player to take their possition immediately. A DM could become a CB, after the CB roams forwards for example. — suggested by Heresy

7. Better scheduling — Don’t you hate it when you get 4 matches to play in 5 days? There should be a rule that there has to be at least a 2 day period of rest after a match and that this rule cannot be broken. — suggested by Heresy

8. Sponsoring — I’d like to see shirt change option when the club gets a new sponsor. — suggested by Heresy

9. Transfers — When you’re taking over a club and want to get rid of unneeded players, some don’t want to go because they’ve just got signed. I’d like the transfer policy on this to be the same as with the staff. They should simply agree to be put on the market. — suggested by Heresy

10. More extensive youth development network — with more participation on the manager’s part, with the inclusion of foreign academies for example, such as Ajax’s in South Africa. — suggested by Yippy

11. In-game set piece taker selection —  I think when there a free kick within striking range, or a penalty comes up, you should have the ability to make a change to the taker. The current fixed list is just not realistic enough. If you have a player who has scored 2 goals already, you might want to give him the chance to take this penalty. — suggested by The Ziggy

12. Being able to use the money you earn as managersuggested by ZenPancakes

13. Interviews for players — For example you could talk to a player who doesn’t seeminterested in moving and explain your goals, would make it more realistic. — suggested by Aaron

14. Complaining to the officials during the game over a dubious decisionsuggested by Benjy

15. Pre season training camps — like nearly every club in real life do and therefore afterwards an update which player had a very good preparation and which are not completely ready for the season and so on. — suggested by Burns

16. Negotiating with sponsors — I want the ability to speak with sponsors. In order to make the best possible deal that could benefit my team. It would be nice to be in the president’s room at these conversations and ask or suggest things in the negotiations. — suggested by George K.

17. Trophy Presentations – Cup finals don’t feel as good when our virtual lads aren’t lifting any trophy. The confetti was a nice touch but I do feel winning a cup or title isn’t special because it’s not like real life. — suggested by Saltwater

18. Dynamic Rivalry – After a certain amount of “special matches” with a team, say thrillers (4-2 5-3 etc), or maybe your bogey team, or a team that you score/concede late goals constantly against, maybe they can be added to your rivalry information. This would be good as it would make some “nothing” matches important, and teams who have no real rivals (Norwich, Stoke) could build this through cup ties or something. — suggested by Saltwater and Jonathan Carver

19. Career Mode — a special mode in which you would start as the under19 manager of a small team in a lower league and try to ascend. the trick here is that you would have to gain the board’s trust, meaning you director of football would have the final say in negotiations and business until you prove yourself and gain everyone’s trust. — suggested by Pedro Roriz

20. Individual Touchline Shouts — I would like to be able to say specific things to individual players during the game: For example, reprimand my players for wasting possession, tell them to player deeper/higher up etc. — suggested by Tyler

21. More intense transfer deadline day — At the moment it’s just like any other day, while in reality it’s a hectic day when millions of fans world wide gather in front of the tv for the excitement. It should be a chaotic and hectic day when anything can happen. — suggested by Mussolini, Gaurav and Saltwater

22. Competition Heads Up — I would like to have a feature where one of my scouts tells me every time there is a new competition starting that can be scouted. — suggested by Mariano

23. Medical Insurance —  I would lik to be able to get a money refund from insurance when a players gets injured over a long period of time (this should then be negotiated after every year, giving you a better deal if you didn’t have that many injuries and otherwise a bad deal if you had many injuries). — suggested by Koenig

24. Internal Club Set of Rules — When a player signs his contract, I would like to be able to also negotiate a club agreement where rules of conduct is placed. I would like to make my own rules of how the players should behave. Let’s say that a player gets a red card and in his contract, or and overall player/club agreement, states that everytime he gets a red card he should be fined 1 or 2 weeks of pay. And then there wouldn’t be any anger from the player as he signed the deal. But, of course, they should be able to say, if the ruling was unfair, that they didn’t want to pay. — suggested by Koenig

Now it’s time for your requests, do share and discuss!

I would like to see better contracts for managers, for instance if you win promotion you will get a £5000 wage rise, and if you’re top of the league by January you can have £5m more transfer budget.
There’s a topic about this in the Forum, you should check it out if you haven’t already.

That would be realistic I guess. But you can’t do anything with that money. Even worse, they are taken out of the club budget. I’d prefer paying a player’s contract out of that cash.

I’m with Johnny, the amount of times I’ve been offered 60K plus a week and wished it could be transferred to my wage budget is unreal ;)

I’d like to see the game being a bit more realistic! (sorry I know this isn’t really very specific) but like sometimes it’s easy because some players somehow suddenly become available at cut-throat prices which are just so unrealistic from real life (eg. James Rodriguez for just 6m, van persie for 4.4); all this results in managers not being able to pull off real coups because all the players become cheap randomly anyway! thanks although i think some may disagree with me(:

    • Johnny Karp

      21 июля, 2012 at 20:14

Well, I haven’t been able to spot such bargains myself. If van Persie costs 4.4 mil at the age of 32 then I don’t see that as unrealistic.

Maybe his contract was running out? If Arsenal don’t sell him this summer then they might sell him at that price in January.

just take cassano’s example when he left as roma. he had 6 months left on his contract and, even though he was considered to be THE italian talent back then, he was sold for sheer 6 million euros.

Being able to save squad selections so you can switch between your first team and the backup team in one click and not having to drag every player. It can be annoying when you have games every 2-3 days.

    • Yippy

      21 июля, 2012 at 17:47

You can actually do that already. Just go to the squad or tactics screen and press ‘selection’, ‘team selections’ and ‘save selection…’

Well, I want my players to be available for reserve match on the first squad, especially in Spain and France rather than moved the players into reserve or Squad B and causing him to unhappy/

    • Johnny Karp

      21 июля, 2012 at 20:16

Those are the regulations in Spain as far as I know. So if we want the game to be realistic, then we have to accept the tricky parts in some leagues.

    21 июля, 2012 at 16:36

I think the game play in general needs an upgrade…I’m talking about overall realism, its great at the start but after ‘x’ amount of years some events are a little crazy and SI need to address that…but in terms of features I’d love to have more freedom with the highlight uploads, it would be cool to be able to easily select chances as well as goals for YouTube.

    • Johnny Karp

      21 июля, 2012 at 20:18

You can select the chances but it takes a bit more time since you have to go through the analysis screen, play and record those chances and then upload.

      • Darren Smith

        21 июля, 2012 at 21:17

Yeah I know, I tried it but it never worked for me unless I selected just a few ‘custom’ highlights’, I am hoping they’ll expand on this to make it easier.

Off the top of my head my things would be:

    1- More customisation
For all of the following to work there’s need to be a little bit more customisation available. Have a few more check boxes on the starting menu saying whether or not you want x, y or z. Tailor your game to be as realistic or detailed as you want. So all of the things I’m about to suggest would be optional.

    2- Negative random events
Pretty sure SI have already stated in the past that they wont put in anything like this in the game ever, but I’d like to see some random negative stuff. Failed drug tests, players getting bad press, Joey Barton style shenanigans, that sort of thing. The main obstacle I can see is the legal issue of using real people, I bet lawyers would have a field day if a game had a random event of ‘Ronaldo caught doing cocaine’ or something, so right away I’d say limit these events only to fake players (regens and the like). While this does mean it’d be a few seasons before people start seeing them probably, that also kinda works as it gives people time to learn the game before it starts dropping bombs on you.
The only things like this in the game right now that I can think of are real life stuff they have to include in the database at the start of the game(like drug bans) and the occasional player missing a training session message sometimes being accompanied by a little footnote saying they were spotted at a nightclub.

    3- Directors of Football (DoF)
Some managers love them, some hate them but either way they seem to be becoming more prevalent in the modern game so I think for FM to continue being a realistic simulator they need to be included. I’ll spit this into how you’d get one and what they’d actually do.
    How you’d get one —
When you start a game you’d be given the freedom of choice, when you pick your initial club just like how the chairman gives you the option to sack all the existing backroom staff they’d say «We currently use / do not use a DoF, do you want to get rid of him / keep him / get one?» . However if you’re joining a club mid game then it would be part of the contract negotiations. If you’re a sucessful manager you might have enough bargaining power to get your own choice on a DoF position, and also the chairmans personality might lean towards or away from having a DoF. Getting/removing a DoF would also be added to the standard board room requests (like improving the stadium, geting more transfer money, etc)
What a DoF would actually do —
The way I’d imagine it there’d be multiple types of DoF, some with more power than others. Off the top of my head a basic 5 tier structure might be:
1 — DoF is basically a glorified scout. You have complete control over transfers and scouting he just occasionaly adds a more detailed report or something. Or he’s a bit better than a regular scout and you can give some specifics like «find me a right winger, who will fit this tactic system and cost £X or less» and he’ll come back with a shortlist.
2 — DoF has some control over the scout network and will send unassigned scouts out but you still have overall control. He’d make monthly/bimonthly messages where he’d reccomend players and provide advice (whether you want it or not) on each transfer you try to make. If you wanted you could have him negotiate a transfer or a contract for you.
3 — DoF has control over the scout netowrk. You can make reccomendations for scout assignments but the DoF has final say. DoF can negotiate transfer deals independantly but you will have final say on them. For example, if you’d been scouting for a left mid he might come to you and say «Hey, we can get Left winger X for £Y million is that ok?» . How good the deal he can get would be dependant on his stats.
4 — DoF controls scouts. DoF will have a large say on transfers. Both yourself and the DoF can negotiate transfers but the final decision goes to the chairman and he might listen to you or he might listen to the DoF. Obviously if you both agree then there’s going to be no problem, but if there’s a difference of opinion then you best hope you’re on the chairmans sweet side.
5 — DoF has total control of scouts and of transfers. You can make reccomendations but that’s all.

That’s just a basic plan I thought up off the top of my head and as per number 1 on my list would be optional.

    4 — A classic/legends mode
FM has come a long way since it started out. I’d like to see the game we have now with the player database of CM 01/02, or even 20 years ago, giving you the chance to totally redifine history. Maybe you’re the guy that finds Messi and not Barca, maybe Cantona doesn’t do a kung-fu kick and then retires early, Abramovich buys Accrington Stanley instead of Chelsea.
The only thing blocking this that I can think of is like the 2nd option on my list, how do you handle the bad stuff? Not just the illegal stuff like drugs and match fixing but the tradgedies. Pretty sure it wouldn’t go down well if you had a simulated Marc VIvien-Foe keel over on the pitch, but you can’t really go around waving a magic wand and saying «in this football world everything is perfect and nothing bad happens.» either. It’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation.

Classic mode would be killer, I really like that idea :D

The DoF stuff is good Adam, one could use a good staff member in that position. I do not necessarily agree with your other suggestions, not entirely anyway.

  10. Heresy

    21 июля, 2012 at 17:25

I have a few of those myself :)

    1. Attacking/defensive movement;

I’m missing the ‘arrows’ for attacking movement. For example, you don’t want your wingers cutting inside. Ever. You just give them an arrow to hug the line and cross like it was a few versions ago.

As for defensive movement, you can’t really do a Chelsea 10 man defense in FM. The attacking players never go back to help out when they should.

Overall, I’d like 2 tactic screens. One for attack and one for defense with highly customiseable movement of players.

    1a. Position covering;

When you have roaming players, especially if they are defenders (fullback, ball playing defenders) and you send them to attack, you should have an option to pick a player to take their possition immediately. A DM could become a CB, after the CB roams forwards for example.

    2. Better scheduling;

Don’t you hate it when you get 4 matches to play in 5 days? Happened to me twice and I’d really hate it if it happened again. There should be a rule that there has to be at least a 2 day period of rest after a match and that this rule cannot be broken.

    3. Transfer budget;

When you receive monthly allowences, it all goes straight to your bank balance. I’d like it to go to the transfer kitty instead.

    4. Agents;

If an agent hates you after an unsuccessful contract negotiation with a player A, he will block all talks you may want to have with player B if he’s his agent as well. What I would like is for them to still hate me, but allow contract negotiations with player B. They may be much less patient, they may even offer an unnegotiable deal, but it’s ridiculous that I can’t talk with a player because his agent is in a bad mood.

    5. Sponsoring;

I’d like to see shirt change option when the club gets a new sponsor.

    6. Transfers;

When you’re taking over a club and want to get rid of unneeded players, some don’t want to go because they’ve just got signed. I’d like the transfer policy on this to be the same as with the staff. They should simply agree to be put on the market.

    I think that’s it for now :)

You can do the runs thing with the classic tactic, but once you change your formation to classic, you cant change it back.

These are things that i would like to see:

    1. reserve/u21/u18 players getting bids.

I would love to see players who are performing well for reserves/u21/u18 to attract clubs to sign them even though they haven’t made a first team appearance. A real life example would be Joselu who is scoring 26 goals in 36 appearances for Castilla last season is reported to be on the verge to join Hoffenheim soon, my point is that as long as the talent is there, it doesn’t matter even if he is not given any first team chances other clubs will snap him up.

    2. Picture of real trophies

I hope that i will be able to see picture of tropies that i won at the personal archievement so that would give players sense of satisfaction and motivate us to keep going on long-term saves.

    • Johnny Karp

My U18’s get bids if they have good potential

  12. Yippy

I would like a more extensive youth development network with more participation on the manager’s part, with the inclusion of foreign academies for example, such as Ajax’s in South Africa.

  13. TheZiggy

    21 июля, 2012 at 18:06

    1. The recommendations from the backroom staff needs to be improved. Having taken my team to continental reputation, it’s pretty sad that almost all the recommendations my staff make are for older players who really are not up to the quality I’m looking for. Even in the lower leagues I don’t think any of the recommendations were of any use.

Some of the PPM recommendations are also quite bewildering at times. Telling me I should set a striker to hit shots with power, when he has finishing of 19 and composure of 16 is insane.

    2. Fix the numerous, largely silly little niggles in the match engine. Free kicks and throw-ins being the major issues. Having a free taker with the PPM of «hits free kicks with power» makes him almost completely useless unless he’s a long way out from goal, as he will shoot at the wall just about every time.

    3. I think when there a free kick within striking range, or a penalty comes up, you should have the ability to make a change to the taker. The current fixed list is just not realistic enough. If you have a player who has scored 2 goals already, you might want to give him the chance to take this penalty.

    4. When in a match, and you look at the team formation, it shows you the player numbers. However without clicking through, there is no way to see who those players are. Sometimes when the opposition have switched to a new formation it would be good to be able to easily see where the players have moved to. It can be important for spotting when you need to tighten up somewhere, or a weakness can be exploited. Currently it’s a pain, and means you can get surprised at times.

    5. The selection of matches for TV coverage seems to largely remain biased towards the clubs that were the biggest at the start of the game. If you bring a club from a lower division to the top and they are very successful, it still feels like you are not getting the same level of coverage that you deserve.

    6. Last but not least, one of my pet hates in the game. The scheduling for matches is very poor, and also seems to be lacking a lot in how random it really is. First off, for some reason I’ve played Man United at home in the first fixture of the season 3 times in a row, which is weird, and not as such been a issue as we’ve won each time due to a better pre-season. Second is the real problem, in that the matches are set up on a cycle through the teams, such that almost every team you play will have faced exactly the same teams in their previous two matches. Depending how lucky or unlucky you are, this can totally make or break a season. I also had the weird situation, where I drew exactly the same teams in the Champions League group two seasons in a row.

    • Johnny Karp

      21 июля, 2012 at 20:37

Ziggy, what you listed are mostly bug fixes and not requests for new features. However, I do agree with all of them as I have been affected by those aspects in FM 2012.

  14. Sonny Edgeler

    21 июля, 2012 at 19:26

If teams who have financial problems could become extinct or moved divisions instead of just having a point deduction, I’m not sure if they already do this but I have never seen it so I assume that they don’t.

There is a glitch that my team always gets, from the corner it gets cleared, and then my player passes it back to the corner taker, who is in an offside position. I would like that to stop! I would like more options in the private chat, I would like to have an option where you can say something yourself so the player understands you better. And the ability to have the training option for a national team.

Media overhaul. for instance the media thought it was odd I praised my topscorer efter I had brought in two new and better strikers. Still should not better surprising.

Id like to be able to use the money I’m paid as the manager, not like The Sims mind you, but just be able to use the money I earn other than just seeing a number. Say, after a match and after you do your end game stuff, an option comes up to hit the pub, go home, party with the team, etc., and the repercussions of drinking too much, having a wife/girl that messes around with your players, little things that might happen in real life. Like football life in PES, but geared as the manager. Hope this makes sense, I’m on break and just flailing on the keyboard to get this out.

    • Johnny Karp

      23 июля, 2012 at 10:22

Yep, that money should be used somehow.

      • Scottyw

        2 августа, 2012 at 22:34

I agree money should be used, but disagree with how you want it. options such as party with team, hit the town etc used to do my head in on jumpers for goalposts

  19. Aaron

    21 июля, 2012 at 22:36

I like the ideas so far. For what its worth, these are mine.

    1. Going along with the interviews for managers I think there should be the same for new players. For example you could talk to a player who doesn’t seeminterested in moving and explain your goals, would make it more realistic.

    2. Add more elements to the media. I can’t believe that SI haven’t got journalists asking about job vacancies in press confs, at least it hasn’t happened to me anyway. This speculation is huge in the media so it should be added to the game. Also the media could criticise your style of play and things along that line. The tie ins with the media are too few and far between.

    3. I think that creating a manager could be more in depth if the player wanted it to be. Say give people the chance to create their manager in the editor so they can add in ex clubs, international appearances ect.I often feel the manager’s history is quite bland compared to their real life conterparts.

I would also like to see some of the minor details changed, such as the league cup not counting as a trophy on the hall of fame and the FA Cup being considered minor.

    • Johnny Karp

      23 июля, 2012 at 10:25

The first one is interesting. The second is too, but making the media interaction more complex might turn this into a media game instead of a football game. As for the third, can’t you do that in the FM 2012 editor?

      • Aaron

        23 июля, 2012 at 15:14

I see what you mean about the media but if they added a bigger range of questions to the press confs it would make them more entertaining. Sometimes they can feel like the same ones repeated over and over. I don’t think there is the option to create your own mnager in the editor but I’ll have a look about.

        • Johnny Karp

          25 июля, 2012 at 10:34

When you play 10+ season the questions will become repetitive, unless they build a list of over 1000 questions or more.

Let you have a choice weather you want to be a AM.

More real life events match fixing scandals get stripped of your titles like Juventus.

Better match view e.g you can see yourself walking around the touchline.

Along the lines of criticising the ref in press conferences, I’d like to see an option of complaining to the officials during the game over a dubious decison. This could lead to getting warned but also could influence that ref’s relationship with your teams: potentially being kinder/harder on you in decisions for the rest of your career.

In my opinion there is one big area left out by SI interactive and that is the possibility to send teams on pre season training camps like nearly every club in real life do and therefore afterwards an update which player had a very good preparation and which are not completely ready for the season and so on, there should also be a possibility to choose between different countries in which you can have your camp set up and also promotional tours through asia/south america/australia etc. would be a nice option to recruit more fans worldwide and therefore more income from merchandise (also the relevance of merchandise should be much higher)

another point which would be genius is that you can build your own youth camps in other countries to recruit the best players in some areas matching with domestic clubs to secure good young players

and as Zen Pancakes said before a little bit of real life would be fun and a great addition to the game

Hello, I want to see many things, lot of them are really difficult, but wonders can always happen…

    1. I would like to see a more realistic approach of tactics in a match. I want to be able in teaching to players automatisms and moves like 1-2 in a match that could improve the whole team play level. I would like as a manager, to speak to coaches of what I want in the team’s playing style.

    2. I want to have a more realistic transfer system. Many teams asks too much for a player. If I’ll try to sign a player like Javier Pastore in a team, they asks from me 60.000.000 €… Ok Pastore is a really good player, but if the discussion goes to a player with value around 3m € the team asks more than 3 times his value… It’s just not realistic. Furthermore, some players don’t even talks to me even if I can make them the richest player in football history… For example I want to sign Neymar in PSG but he is not even talking to me despite that I could give him a fortune that in real life even he could play to Accrington with this salary…

    3. I want the ability to speak with sponsors. In order to make the best possible deal that could benefit my team. It would be nice to be in the president’s room at these conversations and ask or suggest things in the negotiations.

    4. I want to see the game going to a whole new level. It would be nice if we could have a total ammount of earnings from the manager wages and to be available in buying a whole team for our own. To explain this, if I’m managing for 12 years teams with 50.000 €/week it’s almost 29.000.000 €. It would be nice if I could buy my a team and be the owner/manager who could buy training fields, scouting setup and more.

    Hopefully, if I don’t begin ranting, this won’t be too long… :)

1). Match Engine — We all know that the match engine has improved year in year out but obviously it’s not Fifa like and it never will be. I’m fine with that, but certain stuff in my opinion need to be fixed. Goalkeepers diving is a must, slide tackling, but I can learn to live with this stuff. Stuff that really bug me is like when you’re chasing a goal in stoppage and say a midfielder puts the ball out of play when under no pressure. This stuff leaves me on the verge of tears because it boarders on stupid. And I’m talking Iniesta and not a non-league player.
2). Stadium revamping — Please notice how I say revamping and not tweaking. There is very small difference between say Old Trafford and The Keepmoat stadium bar the colour of the seats. Going to Old Trafford should be intimidating and not just because of the team you’re facing but just the spaciousness of the stadium. There needs to be obvious differences between a top flight stadium and a Championship stadium, or Stamford Bridge and Goodison Park.
3). Gameplay Manipulation — Geniuses like you, Johnny, have found a way to make your team play attractive football but for the rest of us (me) it isn’t that easy. I think some options or sliders need to be added so we can dictate how our team play. I’m not exactly sure how this would be done, but I would like over time to make my team play like Barca, or if I’m feeling like it, Allerdyce-esque direct football.
4). Differing Shapes — You will hear many teams when their attacking they’re one shape (say 4-4-2) and when they are defending they’re another shape (say 4-5-1). I would like to be able have this option.
5). Competition — The relegation battle much more than the title race, in many European countries to me, is never competitive. Normally all the sides go down by April and well that’s not realistic. They never put up any fight and normally stuff rarely goes down to the final day. This is not a big problem but what the hell.
6). Media Obsession — When Arsenal lost 8-2 to Man U the media covered the story like bees over honey. Wenger was being smashed let right and centre, he was being critisized by every pundit and everybody was having their say. On FM, you’ve got a match description and a message saying «the fans are devastated». Not the same is it? Give the media more of a role and make them as annoying as they are in real life. While we’re on media, scrap the press conferences or add some good questions. And make hundreds of them!
7). Chairman personallity — Although this has never happened to me, I don’t think anybody should be sacked after an extremely good siverware collecting first season then a dissapointing second season. Unless you’re working under Abrahamovic :). Oh yeah, that reminds me I think Chairmen and owners should be given personallities. Abrahamovic hasty and impatient, Dave Whelan calm and understanding and Mike Ashley money-fuelled and relentless.
8). Manager personallity — Although this isn’t game-altering, I would like if managers weren’t so robotic and repetitive. When Man U weren’t rewarded a penalty the article said Alex Ferguson wasn’t going to give his opinion as he didn’t want to be reprimanded by the FA. That sounds exactly like him. Give the managers some personalities, I would love to see Wenger say «I didn’t see it» or Fergie say «Squeaky bum time».
9). Officials — Although I like how some referees keep their cards in their pockets and some are no nonsense, in a match I feel some officials are far too inconsistent. Another thing that annoys me is when say a player throws a long ball into the box almost every time there is a penalty appeal which isn’t, and when there is an foul inside the box it’s obviously a penalty. There’s no contention — there’s no controversy! That’s the reason I watch football! And seeing as Platter and Platini aren’t bothered to get off their arses and introduce goal line tech I would love to see over-the-line controversy
10). Trophy Presentations — This is my first real feature and I feel this is a must. Cup finals don’t feel as good when our virtual lads aren’t lifting any trophy. The confetti was a nice touch but I do feel winning a cup or title isn’t special because it’s not like real life.

Most of these are improvements and not real features but I’d appreciate feedback from anybody.

      22 июля, 2012 at 11:53

11). Rivalry — After a certain amount of «special matches» with a team, say thrillers (4-2 5-3 etc), or maybe your bogey team, or a team that you score/concede late goals constantly against, maybe they can be added to your rivalry information. This would be good as it would make some «nothing» matches important, and teams who have no real rivals (Norwich, Stoke) could build this through cup ties or something. This shouldn’t be too hard as players are added to favourites and icons in the same way.
12). Team Talk conundrum — Their are infinite scenarios pre-match, half time and full time. Real life managers don’t give the same team talk match after match but yet we are condemed to. If the makers somehow manage to make «enough» team talks that will satistfy us players, thinking about all the possible variables (Form, morale, opponent strenght, venue, competition) then there would be too much to fit the page. So I think there should be a search engine containing the hundred of team talk possible, because «do it for the fans» is gonna make me throw up. So for instance say you Everton and you enter rivalry into the search engine. A few team talks pop up:
«Even though we’re underdogs, go out their and win this derby!»
      «Let’s go beat the scum!»
«This team make me sick! Go out their and showcase our talent!»
Or maybe I’m Wigan and it’s the last day of the season and half time. We are leading 1-0 and just about keeping our heads above water. I enter — last day — and — relegation — and these team talks come up.
«Defend that lead with your lives!»
      «If we don’t concede, we survive!»
      «Keep fighting our their!»
«No more slip-ups. Final day — show what we are made of!»
This would be really good as not only would it give more team talks but it can also be apllicable to any situation. Whether you enter «bad form» or «win» or «defend» or «qualify» or «complacent» it would give you a list of team talks that make more sense than just saying «do it or the fans»

Id like to see more in depth scout reports than some stars and the players main strengths and weaknesses, maybe a range of what stats could reach, who the player could resemble in the future. All there is now is a comparison to your own players, which isn’t helpful if your scouting a centre forward like sanogo and it says they have the potential to play like Suarez, they are totally different players

Rival Teams- for lower league management especially when you travel up the leagues it would be much more realistic if rival teams changed. In my Birtley save its almost certain that Newcastle and Sunderland would be our fierce rivals yet it doesn’t happen. Also if there’s a certain team that keeps beating you or are always battling you for the title they could be added to your rivals :)

I Would love to be able to set and discuss My vision for the club im taking on. Not just
the seasons expectations but goals for the years i got contract. For example, i take on
a small team and i want to build on youngsters.

Wages for players vs wages for staff is now anoyingly bad. I want to be able to
set My budget for staff as well. I can have a reserve of players wages of more
than half but not being able to sign a staff for very small wage.

And last, being able to talk to players more. The system now is very poor.

More intelligent players too. I had a player get mad for being in the reserves after I’d promoted him back to the first team after he requested a transfer (relegated to reserves) then requested to be taken off the transfer list (promoted back to seniors when I saw he was unhappy with being in the reserves, then I talked to the player, he said he didn’t believe I would promote him to seniors WHEN I ALREADY HAD, and was still complaining 2 weeks later about being in the reserves when he wasn’t and ended up being transfer listed again and sold).

What I would like to see is a different way to set players on the set piece manager. If I rotate the squad then all my set pieces are thrown off. For example: I’d rather set my best header, and jumper to attack the back post on a corner, rather than it just being whoever is in a certain position.

Also has been mentioned several times, more realistic media and more variety when talking to them or players. There are many times when I need to talk to a player but one of the 5 options doesn’t really fit.

i’ve been reading through the section and there are some great ideas here, folks! keep it coming! johnny, do you intend to send this wish list to SI? they are very open minded.

well, for my share, i’d like to see:

    1. infield action: you should be able to press the referee, shout at the side refs also, in order to try to manipulate their decisions. maybe, it could even become a subject for press confs, stirring up some arguing between coaches over political power, influence, etc. or SI could create a «Influence» attribute for coaches, like ferguson and mourinho, who have such skills.

    2. career mode: a special mode in which you would start as the under19 manager of a small team in a lower league and try to ascend. the trick here is that you would have to gain the board’s trust, meaning you director of football would have the final say in negotiations and business until you prove yourself and gain everyone’s trust. if, for this mode, they prevent save/load cheat, they could rank all players through the globe, addressing darren’s complaints, and showing who became the toughest manager the fastest.

3.someone said already of tour camps and worldwide tours. i think that is a great ideia!, and so true, every team does it. i would also like to see friendly cups you organize every year becoming regular and gaining media’s attention, generating rivalry, income, etc. If you invite for 2 years in a row the same teams for the same friendly competition, it should become a regular event, or sth like that.

    4. more options when buying a player. you should be able to keep the player loaned at the original club, or even exchange other players as technical counter-parts but for a season long loan, or even a co-ownership, instead of the complete sale of that very counter-part. it happens very often in italy.

5.media activity and kit change: every other year, some teams change drastically their kits, maybe not their 1st uniforms, but their 2nd and 3rd, for commercial purposes or commemorative reasons such as 100th year of existence, Xth year of first cup victory, etc. It should be in the game and generate media activity, such as the red 3rd uniform of Internazionale that generated furious protests as it is red, or arsenal’s yellow one that was well regarded.

6.for non-EU national sides, there should be in the game FIFA’s rule preventing european-based players call-ups outside fifa’s reserved dates for international friendlies. Brazil often plays south america based players in friendlies as they are not in the offical dates and the country is not allowed to select its best players.

    7. a general rule preventing the game to add up more of 10% of all costs to «others». salaries, taxes, pich, marketing and infra investments comprise most of a club’s costs, leaving little room for ‘others’ to be significant.

8.i believe some one mentioned it any given time already, but new stadiums shouldn’t be named after the club, but after an icon, or legend, instead. or even if SI wants to generate any additional money, it could negotiate with real life companies to add them to the pool of possible sponsors for the stadium, generating in-game money for the club, and creating more Etihad’s, Allianz, etc. And even adding those companies for possible sponsors of those side protections of the pitch (i don’t know what do you call them in english) that in real life show advertisements but in the game they show SI, football manager, etc.

    9. you should be able to negotiate a players image rights when discussing their contracts. Some players (lots of, actually) prefer earning less on a monthly basis but having secured half of their image rights.

    10. I don’t know if it happens very often in Europe, but here in brazil agents play a HUGE part on negotiations as very often they are the owners of more than 50% of the player. Maybe you could add that feature when it is logical, like for younger players, forcing a better relationship with agents.

well, I think that is enough. There is still lots of room for development for this such great game!

Set pieces has to be improved.

I would like to be able to speak to players that are not interested about why they are not willing to discuss a contract and see if I can change their mind.

Also, players that won’t leave, rather than just offer them to clubs, the ability to contact the club direct and ask what it would take to make their interest more concrete

i believe when you offer someone, there is a feedback session afterwards if no approach has been made. sth like ‘the demanded value is too high’ or ‘the wage demand is out of proportion’, etc. it is already in the game.

        24 июля, 2012 at 16:42

I have been thinking about what ZenPancakes said about using money earned and maybe we could be able to use our money for various courses to increase our attributes. This way our manager profile will be the same as all other managers, with things like Attacking and Defence coaching attibutes.

It would have to be done carefully though, and not just ‘buying’ attributes. Like you could enrol on a course specifically for working with youngsters ect and it could take 6 months. And the more money you spend on the course the better coaching it is!!

    Just an idea :)

would like better player/staff interaction. This crap with saying the exact same things just in a different tone is stupid. There are times i need to say things to the team but the options are too limited. I would like to be able tell a player «Look player X is better than you so he is 1st choice» or to be able to talk with injured players about their recovery and any possible return to matches.players to accept lower contracts in exchange for 1st team football rather than picking up 180k a week to sit on the bench. I would like to see loan back deals like in real life. Boardroom interaction .. if want to ask for more money i should able to ask as many times as i want whenever i want .. if the board don’t like it they can sack me but if i want to ask i should be able to.. for all thing including feeders and important transfers also if you want to buy a player you can do player swap deals e.g I will buy a player for 10 million and you can have player ‘x’ on season long loan.

    Also:

    Player Interaction:
    — The ability to tell a player that if you receive a bid of X amount, then he’ll be allowed to talk to another club. This should stop players complaining when you reject a bid that is insulting. The player should however know that if you say to him you’ll only accept 10mil or more, when he is only worth 1mil max, that you have no intention of selling him and then might complain depending on his loyalty/professionalism and maybe refuse to play like modric…

    Player/Manager Interactions:
    — If a Manager turns down a contract offer and players like him they will: Approach the Manager and ask him to stay.

    I like 2 and 18.

Reasoning for 2: I’m still on FM11 on a long running game, and I face a tricky situation with Celtic (although I’m still managing Leicester with another manager too), my ultimate aim is to get Celtic to the Champions League final vs Leicester, however there’s a possible board takeover in process, and the new chairman apparently wants to appoint a new manager. It’s particularly annoying as I took Celtic from being 10th in SPL when I took over to finish 4th 3 seasons ago, and last season won the SPL. My ultimate aim being as stated to win the Champions League, yet I have no option to discuss this with a possible new chairman. (In fact this could be a new suggestion, board takeovers feature discussions with current manager about their aims).

18 is quite logical. Again from my long run FM11 game, as Leicester I have now won the PL 5 times in a row, Man City finishing 2nd the first 4 of those times, yet they are not listed in the club information section as being rivals, which is annoying as they are the main team who present challenges to me (Man U might have finished 3rd the first 4 times then 2nd last season, but I have won something like 13 of my last 15 games against them, including a 6-0 Champions League Final thrashing at the end of last season, so I don’t consider them rivals as such).

8 I also like. Maybe an improvement would be to have new shirt designs every few seasons for long running games also.

As a manager you should be able to talk to your board or make a comment in the press if they decide to accept a transfer offer for one of your players without your approval. Drives me absolutely bonkers when they sell my top player in the January transfer window!!

    24 июля, 2012 at 21:50

I would like to be able to talk to my players face to face about their agents. Every so often agents pretend unreasonable terms for new contracts or to change existing contracts, even when signed few months before. Quite often, agents pretend not to have negotiations with a manager they hate, even while the player they represent is totally on the manager side. In such circumstances, it would only be fair to have a frank talk with the player about what he is gonna lose due to the agent, and see if the player will eventually fire him and get a new one as a result. In the end, agents may be programmed to think at what they may lose by keeping terms contrary to the desires of the players, and change their mood or be thrown out of the market.

    1) In the press confrences they are the same questions, I think they need to have more variety.

    2) I think that there should be more real life stuff added to the game such as players angry then refusing to train and you can fine them, they are late for training ect ect.

    3) I think deadline day could be improved, more shock transfers and more time to buy players.

    4) When you first start a new save you meeet with the borad, players and tell them why you have been chosen as new manager and that will deem whether the players will take to you or not and same when moving to one club to another in the same save. :D

I think one thing that I would love see on FM13 is a change of Reputation. I would love to see different levels of reputation. For example, my club in my heart, IFK Göteborg from Swedish Allsvenskan, has a great history with winning EufaCup 1982 n 1987, have won 18 times in the league, early 90ies played CL-group several times. With that IFK has a HUGE historical reputation of being one(if not the) of the best club in Sweden to play for. However the last years has been not so good with only one championstitle in the last 15 seasons. That calls for a more active reputation depending on say the 5-10 latest seasons, the players in the club at the moment and of course in what league and country the club is in.

League and club reputation already exists but I call for a more advance reputation system. Historical Reputation and League Reputation and Active Club Reputation(10-5 year based league ranks but also newly signed starplayers, economics and such) should all work together. There are loads of clubs in Europe with former past glory just waiting to rise again.

With that, together with the fact that «a players favorite club» should make it much more realistic to sign players that have played for the club once before. A player that has played for a smaller club in a smaller league and then taken one a european adventure. If this player becomes transferlisted and not wanted by their club, they should be more willing to cut back in wages to return to their past club. I guess we are alot of FMplayers from different countries with a smaller league that see our national players return home after a failed european venture. The transferlisted player with the club as a favorite, should NOT appeal for a wage twice as much as it has on the current club to return to its favorite club.

This should also apply for «Favorite Personel» :)

So basically, Id love to see
    1. Advanced Reputation with Historical and much more Active Reputation.
    2. Favorite Club/Personel should be much more a dealmaker.

Hi, I hope you guys can do something with the manager clause. Like when we are accepting a contract from another club so we can choice the clause. Because in real life, chelsea had to pay 15 mill. Euro for Andre Villas Boas. But in the game, I think the max. is 2 mill. :)

What I’d like to see is a more intense transfer deadline day.
At the moment it’s just like any other day, while in reality it’s a hectic day when millions of fans world wide gather in front of the tv for the excitement.
They should (for the sake of once) copy fifa on this one. fifa 12’s TDD stops every hour and gives you updates. It should be a chaotic and hectic day when anything can happen.

I’d also like to tell specific players what i want them to do on the pitch, not the entire team.
It would also be great to have a fluid tactic creator. At the moment you have to put your players in certain position, and even though you can tell your CM to be a AP, BWM, DLP and a bunch of other stuff, i’t would be great to put them exactly where you’d like to. Then the tactic creator would look at what area (instead of position) you put him in and you’d still be able to tell him what you want him to do.

I would like a new training system because the one that it’s used today isn’t interactive, because you just set some sliders and the game does the rest.
I would prefer a training system where you can select the activities the players do everyday. For example, after a game they should have a recovery training or if we have a cup game, we should be able to train for penalties and so on.

Lots of Good Comments That I Agree with!
Reputation: I completely agree that some aspects of the reputation need to be tweaked. 5 years into my NUFC save, having won 2 LC, 2 EPL and 1 UCL Title, West Ham gets promoted and jumps 3 stars in rep and stands above me. Unless Green Street Hooligans 4 just got released in the game or Mourinho has taken the helm with a new Oligarch’s money, this shouldn’t happen :/

Dynamic Derbies: A must! My Gateshead save cant go on like this lol. I havent played Darlington, Blyth, or Hartlepool is 4 years.

Ball Boys/Girls: Enough Said. Nobody should have to watch their player walk to the flag, not have the ball, walk 20 meter to grab the ball, throw the ball at the flag, then walk back to the flag in the 94th minute. This is excusable if youre the away team, but not if youre down by 1 goal as the home side.

Coach Attributes/Salary: Nothing too major but I find that most coaches prefer the generic 4-4-2, this is fine but it makes for a grueling search when you are looking for something different. I’d like more variation. Sometimes there is too much. In one save, Ruud Van Nis (sorry cant spell his name) has a preferred formation of 4-6-0. Not unrealistic, but I doubt it. Another problem with coaches/staff are their inflexibility with wages. If your rep is «obscure» and you’ve had no other jobs in football then please give my tiny club of Nouvo Compobasso a break and sign 25 pounds less a week than what you want. It seems like none of these staff are truly desperate to get their foot in the door.

Dynamic Transfer Values: I don’t feel that the developers are portraying the proper justice/injustice of the global game we know today. In my Gateshead save, I have a (decent) 22 year old Australian forward. his value is 4.2 million pound. My demand is 7.5m. He is not a starter for me but is for his national team. In the WC, his Socceroos were eliminated in the round of 16, but not before he could score 7 goals. A nice achievement. HOWEVER, nobody wishes to pay more than 6m pounds! This is insane, in real life his value would have tripled or increased x4 to 15-17m pounds. The inflation and deflation of player values are part of the game and should be part of this game. Hopefully in FM2013, if my Brazilian player does this he would be worth 25m pound while if my Belorussian/Lithuanian does it he will be worth 10(ish)m pounds. Prices should soar after huge performances in int’l competitions and there should be disparity between player values of high quality soccer/football nations and the values of players from nations with no such history to the sport.

Thanks for the suggestions mate but, apart from the ball boys entry, the others are just tweaks. As for the ball boys, I really don’t see that as an essential addition to the game, I’d prefer like 100 other improvements before that.

    30 июля, 2012 at 19:52

Have a million ideas! But my main problems are :-

    1) The sexism glitch thing where as a female manager you are constantly being described as him ‘Ana is good friend I respect him etc’. Less sexist questions when you take a job even with a huge amount of success behind you it still seems that the media are only concerned about your gender when you mange.

    2) I would like too see more female coaches and physio’s into the game, I know that no female manager will ever be given the opportunity but I have seen many female coaches and phyiso’s in the real world and none are ever produced in the game which I would like to see.

    3) The ability to ask your chairman to turn from semi-professional to professional or maybe a set criteria that you have to hit like a set amount of money, stadium and facilities. Am tired of going into a season not knowing if I will be professional or not and never knowing if it will ever happen.

    4) Stop naming stadiums after the team name!! I would like the ability to choose a name from a set list maybe of random names rather than after players or the team you are managing, maybe when that times comes you are given some options to choose to name it after a star player, or even a big sponsor or something am always excited when a new stadium is built then annoyed with the name of it!

    5) Better financial breakdown of money in and money out, the finances are one thing I always try to balance but its hard when you are losing a lot of money in ‘other’ for example without any explanation of what that includes and how to counter act it.

    6) Customise kits? I know not strictly the managers job but I tend to get tired of the same colour kits and style every season so the ability to change it say every four years or something and to choose the design and colour’s would be really good I think.

Will leave it there for now as I have loads more ideas but those are the main issues I would like to see. :)

        Hi Johnny,

Yeah you can select your gender but even when you do you are often referred to as a ‘him’ in some media interactions.

It can get quite annoying, nothing game breaking or anything! But would be nice if they could fix that for the new game.

    30 июля, 2012 at 20:59

    Facilities:

I would like to choose(if money available) how much it will cost to upgrade facilities and the different prices to upgrade to different facilities standards.

I´m fed up having facilities expansion cancel due to lack of money.

If the chairman tells you for example to update the facilitate to «good» it will cost x , so ten you can choose and plan your budget.
    ————————————————————————————————————————
This I know it will not happen but i would like to see some real football buy referee, buy the opposition goalkeeper and being caught.

Having your hooligans break a bottle into the referee head and getting ban, loose points etc………..
    ——————————————————————————————————————————
    Having antidoping controls!
    ——————————————————————————————————————————
I think it´s unrealistic that every time you offer a player and you ask to get the 50% of the next transfer it´s accpted.

One thing that has changed in FM2012 that immediately stands out is the ‘Team Report’ aspect.

In previous versions the Asst Manager would give you a written/verbal break down of the team, the strengths and weaknesses of the various positions and any particular area that needed attention for the Season ahead. This allowed you to be much more considered when looking to bolster the squad and sign new players into weaker areas. The current star rating is okay and gives you a graphical indication of each position but why have SI done away with the earlier and, in my opinion, much more realistic written report? Why not combine the two together?

    • Johnny Karp

So say you are a unexperienced coach.
I would like the sport director and the board to take care of the salarys and contracts and also the transfers.
You have a say in the matter with interaction with the board.
On who to sign and what position and so on.

So im not saying the whole game should be like this but maybe a coach mode you can click on when starting the game.
Or this is the mode you start in if you chose too start as a unexperienced manager.

Another thought is that if you succed in the club and met the boards expectation, you win their trust and you get more saying in what happens in the club, and if you become a favorite you unlock, manager mode and you run the show, with transfers and contracts and so on.

Would be a fun challenge in my opinion.

    Cheers :)

    Hey,
A couple of things I’ve always wanted to see… One is a camera angle which actually looks like you are in the dug out maybe you can use the arrows to look around the pitch and turn your head to look at how your defence are positioned whilst your attack are preparing for a corner

Another is on the history tab on your profile it has your overall stats and the stats of your current club, they need separating so you know what your stats were at each club.

The most important for me tho is more emphasis on winning cups, Its what we all manage for… Yet when you win one nothing really happens, you don’t even see a trophy, no celebrations nothing! More celebrations and a trophy cabinet. Maybe on your profile there’s a tab where you click it and you can see all your medals. Which have the date the opponents and the cup you won or finished 2nd in (as you’d get a medal for coming 2nd) I just want to see what I win at the moment all that happens is a little number changes on my record which is pathetic!

Let me know what you think or am I being picky? I have about 50 more but it’s getting late!

-also i think that you should be able to spend your own money, maybe put some on the games you play, but only able to bet for your selves for obvious reasons ect
-also there should be an option if you get to have a new stadium or expansion of to how to design the stadium ect
also design your training grounds ect
keep up all the good work guys!! this site is awesome (first time commenting for over 2 years!)

I agree you should be able to aid the design of new stands or stadiums a bit like LMA manager used to do. I played that game religiously for a while just because it felt alot more like i was a manager. It felt less like a game and more like i was involved. Could see your stadium… could see your players actually lift cups… could see the cups you’d won… which is something i put in my comment.
I don’t think there is much point in being able to bet on games tho, it would just give you more money you can’t do anything with. And adding buying houses and stuff to it would only work if you did it as Total Club Manager did it one year with for example 100 houses from cheap to expensive… 100 cars the same and you can buy them… i wouldnt want the personal side to get to complicated to the point you end up playing the sims inbetween games. I think it’s best left alone for now until someone has a good idea of how to actual introduce it.

I agree that it would add realism but I can’t see that implemented if you watch the match in «key highlights» mode. The game advances quite a few minutes in a very short time so before you complete the warm up and get ready for the substitution, the game might end or you might change idea about who to replace.

This is the most one that I would like to see change. Some kind of presentation and maybe a better trophy cabinet, because the Biography isn’t that good, and sometimes has mistakes. I’ve got a small suggestion, not a huge deal but still can be frustrating. In-game when I switch preset tactics all of the players get put into differing positions. For example, when I switch, but still have 4 defenders they all switch so my DL moves to DC and so on. Or one of the strikers gets moved to a MC. Not a huge deal but I think could be easily fixed.

Tactics: Ability to create customized player roles to use in your tactics, so it is already pre setup with desired player instruction levels , and no need to use check boxes (i.e. «False 9 — Attack», not that this position is really possible to fully recreate, just for an example)

Awards Editing — ability to setup custom awards based on all available player and team statistics, of which there are many (i.e.most successful crosses in a season, most team goals from defensive positions…), current editor does allow some flexibility but is very limited with what can be added.

Better situational AI for fan reactions to games — i.e. if beating a 1st place team to overtake them half way through the season, reaction is apathetic if it’s not a rival, but if beating a rival who is last in league in meaningless game, there is overreaction.

Teams can go through ‘dark times’ periods where they drop off and finish lower in table — can be due to finances, new ownership philosophy, etc.

The game overall appears to be engineered for only a decade or so of play, as it becomes too noticeably static (same 5/6 teams at top of table every year, same players winning awards — IRL , this is simply not true if you go back 20+ years, some teams/players yes, but overall there are fluctuations)

Fans always expect either win or defeat — sometimes IRL evenly matched games fans will simply accept the outcome of a close game or have more of issue with officiating or bad luck, etc.or one player in particular performed badly, penalty shot wins game, etc.

Board expectations for top teams unrealistic — i.e. top English teams can’t be expected to win FA cup outright every year. Although expectation could be to win at least one trophy overall for something

Player focus — if player playing very poorly, fan reaction can have effect?, have not seen in ‘confidence’ section a negative indication of player, only when fans are favoring a player

Financial AI — more dynamic , expectations vary depending on financial situation (i.e. in debt) — board/owner may be more loose (oil-rich) or tightfisted (i.e Arsenal)

Coaching AI — i.e fitness coach shouldn’t be suggesting a technical preferred move for a player, if for a shooting move, it should be from a coach set for technical/attacking training

      Thanks!

I would suggest that perhaps the money manager earns you can use for example to buy part of the club or to make some ancillary buildings.

If a private club to talk to the owner of the club around and if the stockholder to purchase shares of the club and maybe convert it to private.

And to be more control of money for example if you earned more from selling players and that you want to turn everything into a salary rather than your limit.

    1) sort stupid things out like players requesting transfers, andcthen on their information screen ity states player doesnt want to leave the club.

    2) if a player has rerquested a transfer and you said yes, you cant then take them off the list…but you should be able to talk to them, tell them you really want them to stay and offer them a new contract. maybe say things like «il let you leave if we get relegated or dont qualify for europe or something.

    3) its WAY to easy to keep all your players, especially smaller teams…i think ive only had a player ask for a tranfer once, and thats only because i signed to many players for his position. even big clubs (like arsenal and van persie for example_ struggle to hold on to there best players…yet i have never found it a problem, especially if your a championship team with good premier league standard players, most teams out of the prem REALLY struggle to keep hold of their players if they have one good season, but when your managing one of thsoe teams, you can just reject the bid (if any even come in) and thats the end of it. make the game harder and more of a challenge…what im trying to say is make it so players have alot more power and try to push through moves and stuff!

I think that there should be more positions in the formations E.g. Second striker. For example, If i want Rooney to play deeper, i dont want him to be put in the AMC role where his familiarity of the position is only competent or accomplished. I want him to be put slightly behind the main striker but not at the side of him.

You can give him another role, like trequartista or defensive striker and he will play deeper than the other striker. You can check the positions in the analysis screen.

I played the fm12 and i think that there are few small things that can give more realism. I played with mohun bagan in india and i win the 3 club wc and 5 asian chapionship and 6 national league but when i trying to buy player from english/spanish second divison, they are not intrested for signing for this club. 2. The club is financily represented 3rd in the world and they have 950m but when i ask them to buy the stadium they say that the club can’t manage the funds to buy the stadium from its owner. 3. When the club ranked 1st in asia its also upsetting that they can’t have a recruitment network for India they only mention to sign youth player fron calcutta and few other cities of India. 4. The schedule should be more realastic, a club can’t play 4 games in 4 days. 5. Corporate facilties should be change according to clubs reputation.(as i have not enough knowledge of english language so pls forgive me if any happen)

    1. I would lik to be able to get a money refund from insurance when a players gets injured over a long period of time (this should then be negotiated after every year, giving you a better deal if you didn’t have that many injuries and otherwise a bad deal if you had many injuries).

    2. Internal Club Agreement. When a player signs his contract, I would like to be able to also negotiate a club agreement where rules of conduct is placed.

Fanbase — Although this can be altered, it does not feel real.

Let’s say I’m East Stirling and I manage to get them to the SPL and then try and conquer europe with them, their fan base is going to grow. East Sitrling are a team that hail from Stenhousemuir in the Flakirk region of Scotland, and the population there is only just over 30,000.

So to have a team like that getting over 40k at a game would not be realistic.

SI should show the population of where the team play from and take into consideration the reputation of the club also.

Do you get what I mean?

I get what you mean but people can travel, right? Take the German club Hoffenheim for instance. They are based in a suburb with a population of around 3,000 people. And yet they fill a stadium with 30,000 seats on every home game.

I would love it if when you took over a team in another country then all the press conferences were in the language of that country. You could have the option of using a translator in the press conferences but if you used him/her for a prolonged period of time then your relationship with the fans/club personnel would diminish. This would reflect the most difficult aspect of managing a club abroad.

    • Johnny Karp

      28 августа, 2012 at 12:18

That’s not a bad point Clint but I’m afraid the guys at SI would feel that this would make the game even more complicated. I’m not totally against it though.

I really dont like playing FM after a couple of years as the regens are too good.
Too many regens turn up to be world class or gods.

I would love to be chairman of a club and then you can have complete say of coaching the way the club moves foward etc etc fire and hire staff build a club up or completly destroy a club and make cash to go again

Johnny is away at the moment but sure he’ll see this on his return…to be honest I reckon he’d probably be inclined to say that its ‘Football Manager’ not ‘Football Chairmen’ though…you can easily ruin a game by stepping away from its niche.

I wish there were an auto-pause, which could be set to 60 minutes or 75 minutes of the games. I hate when i Alt-tab out of there game and forget all about before the 90 minutes have passed.

Also, the reputation part could easily be improved.

    • Darren Smith

      2 сентября, 2012 at 12:43

The reputation could be improved yes but the auto pause thing isn’t really necessary…just watch the game or pause before you alt-tab out of it.

I’m not exactly sure the things I’m about to discuss were mentioned earlier. I’;m terribly sorry but there’s just too many suggestions to go through. It’s not on the list though so hopefulyl I won’t be repeating someone else’s ideas.

    1) There should be an option to add information to your personal manager screen. Like, if you’re Ukrainian, you start of with knowing Russian for example, but afteer a few years of managing in, say, France, you should be able to learn the language, right? It’s silly that when managing Tours, for example, for 5 years, and then being offered a job at PSG, you still get the question ‘Given that you don’t speak French, will there be any communication issues between you and the players?’ or someting like that.

What I’d like is to get a message saying ‘do you want to have Zulu language added to your personal screen?’ or ‘Do you want Tooting & Micham added to your favourite clubs?’ It would be great to be able to add information to your personal information as the game progresses.

    2) I know this may sound weird, but I’d love some woman leagues to be added. Just a few of the big ones maybe.

    3) This has some connection with 2) as well. When I choose ‘female’ when creating a manager, then choose ‘international footballer’, I start with a very high reputation. Now, I’d like to have the rep figures adjusteed according to my gender. It may be discriminating a little, but it’s just unrealistic at the meoment. Or, like someone’s suggested already, be it a very adjustable area where you can tick boxes for which teams you played for and if you were called up for international duty, how many caps you won.

    4) When you get to the year 2025 or something, there are so many world class regens out there with attributes of 18-20 in key areas and them still developping. Say you just took over a mid-table team in Germany. You are able to afford players who’d cost 100M at the start of the game and be nowhere near as good. And then you face teams like Man Utd where all the players have 20s in key attributes. It’s like someone was feeding them steroids since they were kids. I’d love this syndrome to get toned down a little. Yes, you may find that every year there’s a legend born somewhere. But not 20 per each nation… at least according to the standards of 2011/12. Worse regens please ;)

    5) Building a stadium. If you have the money, why do you need to wait 15 or 20 years before you can build a new stadium? Build a new one, sell the old one and the problem’s gone.

    • saltwater

      2 сентября, 2012 at 13:38

Haha! Feeding them steriods since they were kids! :D
I completely agree that the regens are far too strong not to mention you can buy some of them at like £5 million. It does make the game far too easy in the later year

      One more:

Contract negotiations — You want to sign a player or a member of the staff, you offer them contract and they accept. However, sometimes the deal falls through. Now, when the issue which led to the falling out gets resulved, most of the time the person you wanted to sign is still willing to have contract negotiations with you. So you offer them the exact same contract and they get angry with you because they claim the previous offer was better!

I see two ways of resolving this:
      1. In such situation have an option of recalling the previous contract at a push of a button (from contract history perhaps?) so that the signee can’t claim you’re ripping him off.
      2. Have the signee present the previous contract but state what he wants to change about it. Again, no claim that the previous deal was better. This may be a little more realistic as they know now you’re very serious about wanting to sign them and they may demand a better deal. They should be just as open to negotiations as they were last time.

In any case, looking forward to having this issue resolved.

    1) I support the oft-mentioned dynamic rivalry idea, and I would love for the big rival games to mean even more, and I would LOVE to have the possibility of talking shit to other managers, and have shit thrown back at me, moreso than the standard «Manager X won’t be able to keep his club up». I want to be able to make some of the rivalries fierce.

    2) Media should be crazier. Especially, in England. If you’re in a big club, you should be feeling the pressure more if you lose a couple of games, trying to create stories about your biggest stars leaving the club etc. And it should affect players and what not.

    3) More complex press conferences.

A lot more complex. I don’t want the same old press conference on repeat. You should be able to get questions about everything, lie about how long a player is out for, to misguide other clubs or avoid him being picked for internationals.

I also want press to ask about stuff from earlier on, after you’ve made a blunt statement and i want FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS!

    4) Pre-Season. Big clubs like Man Utd, Real Madrid, Chelsea etc. always plan their pre-season with continental tours and what not for financial benefit. And have high-profile friendlies against other big teams abroad. I want to be able to go on an Asian tour, through Japan, China, Indonesia etc. in one tour, and play v Barcelona in Shanghai. I would have to pick the travelling squad before travelling as well. Also, it would be a bonus if testimonials were possible. Let’s say your star player Claus Lundekvam retires after 10 years for your club. He should have a testimonial. To field an XI team for those matches would also be cool.

    5) Youth system. Every year I get 10-ish players from the academy, and every year I release about 8 of them, because, according to the star-system, they suck. I want to be able to pick my own scholars, maybe have a chance at monitoring one or two associated youth programs, in addition to my own clubs youth program, maybe for their last year in the program, and pick out which of the scholars I would want to bring in to my club.

    6) Using your money to buy the club from owners, or buying shares in your club.

    — With a bigger portion of the shares, comes more power. You’ll be able to decide more about the future of the club. Maybe you can partake in sposorship deals etc. if you have a sizeable part of the shares in a club, and you can partake in decisions about budgets, facilities etc. If you have 51% of the shares or you have bought an entire club, you will have control over just about everything, but you will also have to lend the club money, and/or make sure your club isn’t spending too much money. The possiblity of a club going bankrupt and being liquidated, extinct or relegated, if not complying to demands etc. should also be a possibility. Being able to pay off bigger portion of a loan when a club has extra money should also be possible. Having earned a couple of millions, it could also be cool to start a new club mid-game. Enter into a low league and have full control. Having like a wizard thing to make shirts, crest etc. Changing shirt colours etc. throughout game in any club would also be welcomed. Most clubs rotate at least away/third kits every/every other year.

    7) Remembering it’s a game.

    — A lot of this stuff is possible through the editor though, but I want to be able to start a new game in any league, and have a draft. i.e. the Premier League. You start the game as one of the teams, vs. CPU teams and have a draft to get players. Just to mess it up a little bit.

    8) More deals.

    — So I’ve decided to sign this awesome Chilean striker called Angelo Henriquez from some South-American club called Univ. Chile. He’s 16, and I want to make sure he’s mine before another club can grasp him, but I want him to stay at his club and mature until he’s 18. Maybe I could have him moved over a year early, if he’s showing more promise than expected. Other types of similar deals, where a club buys a player and immediately loans him out to the club should also be possible.

    9) Youth Cups

    — Milk Cup, Aegon Cup and other youth cups and youth cup invitationals. I want to see them happen. I want to see a U16 and a U18 team travelling to Milk Cup in Northern Ireland for a week as my new U21 team embarks on a friendly elsewhere. Big clubs do stuff like that irl. I’m counting on the introduction of U-21 teams in England will be included in FM13, but I would love to also see a U-16 team. Being able to mould players early on, and shape the type of player they’ll turn out to be. Obviously, a lot of U-16 players will be on trial basis like in real life, and you can have your pick of the bunch on youth contracts and as mentioned earlier in this post, picking the scholars from the academy yourself.

In addition, I also like the idea of making Transfer Deadline Day a bit more hectic and unpredictable if you have transfers ongoing that day. The possibility of sitting out like some clubs do, should also be there.

When using «Swap position» I wish that I could keep the player instruction on a certain player. I really dont want my TM to become another role, just because i switch position with another.

sorry if any of these have been posted before but great minds do think alike :)

    1. Better negotiations with staff. the amount of times been a lower league club and had a wage cap for coaches at £500 and even with unrealistic targets ticked i still get guys that start at £1500 and then wont move the number at all? or even just wont negotiate at all. not right if your negotiating with a guy thats not worked for a year or sumat in real life they’d have to take the offers where ever they come from. Also if you lose your assistant you cant filter anything would be nice to still do this.

    2. Coaching courses. happens in real life why not in fm. would be great to have a coach say on 13 for attacking but after a few courses hes up to 18 but now hes got a better rep so has more offers.

    3. match prep should be more important. should include things like pre-match team meeting where you can tell the players specific’s on opposition team style, set pieces and important players and how you what counter those threats. also a week by week training schedule again with specific’s also with coach roles for defense or attack (i.e. steve boulds at aresnal is responsible for defensive work) things like no contact or full contact tackling , set piece training routines (i.e, Southampton’s corner routine against man utd when they had every one on the line and then lallana’s circled round the back) 5 a side games etc.

    4. transfer status. players when they reach last year in their contract auto go on the transfer list. Or a setting that lets you anomalously leak that your ready to cash in on player which can get you better or more bids but if the player finds out hes unhappy with you.

    5. set pieces player specific. say i have a great set piece specialist like a long thrower (think delap) and i set things up to get the maximum out of him but for some reason he doesn’t play should you still attempt that long throw? no. so some option to only do it when hes on the pitch and when hes not they don’t. something similar to saving a selection but with set pieces.

this is beginning to feel more like a rant than a suggestion box, sorry!

6.better merchandising. in real life a lower league team just have a club shop but man utd sell shirt in ever high sports shops so earn millions more by doing this. so having a board room meeting about trying to increase merchandising income and then they negotiating with shops to get better sales and then you can get a greater revenue.

    7. unhappy with training. when your assistant tells you a player is «unhappy with training» might be nice to have some more info and some options to help make him happier with training in the same window.

    8. no more grided player positions and default secondary strikers role

I would like to be able to scout younger talent like clubs do nowadays….you can only scout from the age of 16 up, it would be good if you could offer younger players a place in your clubs school of excellence and develop them from there.

Obviously you would pick players that have the good potential or players recommended by your scouts.

    • Darren Smith

      4 сентября, 2012 at 18:56

You can scout as young as 14, its not scouting thats the problem, its that players aren’t generated younger than 14.

The match engine could be better in certain areas, especially regarding the goalkeeper. I’ve never seen a goalkeeper commiting a penalty and being sent off in a one-on-one situation. And they never choose the wrong side of the goal when there is a penalty and never pick up a back-pass with their hands.
And how about the goalkeeper (and outfield players, for that matter) being booked for time-wasting?
When the physios come onto the pitch, it takes way too long for the match to start again — not until they’ve resumed their position up in the corner. It annoys me quite a lot.
Oh, and the dug-out is way too big as well.

And it would be realistic with a good old-fashioned on-the-pitch brawl every now and then as well, hehe. How about not only seeing favored personel for each player, but also disliked personel? Then when two players, who dislike each other and maybe even play for rival teams, meet on the pitch, it could be like Keane and Vieira or something like that. For example: Player X makes a horror tackle on Player Y, who gets injured and starts to dislike Player X. Maybe even some of Player Y’s team-mates, who have him as one of their favored personel, also begin to dislike Player X for the same reason. It would surely bring more personality to the players in the game.

I think as mentioned before the entire interview process would be great, like if i was a young manager doing the the business in the championship and if a job like the spurs job came up being able to fight for the job stating how you like to play your ideas on transfers and finances just sounds great and being able to bring a team in with you before you start, for example if your changing jobs negotiate a package for your backroom staff like assitant and first team coach to join also, and if like rodgers you wont work with a director of football let all this happen in the interview that the director of football has to go,and have clashes between managers and directors of footballs and get a winner out of it as such

actually also if theres more interaction with your owners like if you have to sell your top player for more funds or sell two fringe players to get extra wages for your top player and at the end of every season have a end of season meeting with owners where you list who has to go and targets you want in and if you have a director of football he gos and get these and sell those who have to go but if you dont you source the players but also some interaction into every deal like a brief explanaton the owner why your signing some 18 year old from brazil for 25 million pound or you have young strikers and your bringing in Del Piero for experence or your team isnt is a physical as others so your bringing in some steal

I want to be able to save like my «Red Devils» team of 2018 so I can use them to challenge another player(s) team. So that u can just play a challenge match instead of having to start a new game.
