We still don’t know when Football Manager 2012 will be released but I’m almost 100% sure that it will be available before the end of this year, probably somewhere around October or November hopefully. There are a few months left before that but I figured that this would be a good time to talk about the new features that we would want to be included in the game. So let’s start with me sharing the top two wishes that I have for Football Manager 2012!
1. Upload more than just goals to YouTube
The upload to YouTube feature has been one of my favourites in Football Manager 2011, but unfortunately it was limited to goals. I would be extremely happy if you could upload clear cut chances in FM 2012 for instance or at least include more of the build-up to the goals.
2. Advanced set piece tactics
There was some progress in FM 2011 regarding the set pieces set up but what I would want is an even more detailed approach. The main thing that I would want would be to be able to set more intricate player movements and not only the position, for instance I might want to instruct the player standing at the near post for a corner to move into the six-yard box to challenge the goalkeeper and one of the lads in the middle of the area to move towards the near post. Or when it comes to free kicks I would like to set up some creative routines to surprise the opponent and then be able to select which routines to use during a game just like you select tactics.
I’m not too demanding, that’s all I’m asking for in terms of new features in FM 2012. How about you, what are you wishing for? Share your thoughts in the comments…

I agree with the set pieces idea and I also think press conferences should be improved. The media plays a huge role in football so that needs to be properly represented. Also I’d like to see them give people a chance to use the data editor to create their managers, so we could pick fomer clubs for them and add a new level of detail to our manager.
Johnny Karp
18 июля, 2011 at 13:49
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Aaron. I think that the press conferences can’t be improved much further, it’s a computer game and media is all about people interaction. I can’t see how they would be able to improve that but who knows, SI have surprised us before :)

Talking of changes, how do you think financial fair play will effect the game? Would you like to see it ignored as some of the competition would be lost.
Sears
18 июля, 2011 at 22:19
No, I think it should definitely be implemented.

Really? It will ruin football so I don’t see why it should ruin FM too

how does it ruin Football? the clubs often put themselves in that kind of trouble there needs to be consequence.
Johnny Karp

I don’t think that it will be ignored, SI always like to keep the game realistic when it comes to rules and I think that they will implement any new rules.

I would like players to listen to your contract offers as I feel that by offering them more money they would join you. Also I would like an option in contract talks that could allow you to continue discussions the next day (like a «continue talks tomorrow» button) Also an inter blogging feature of some sort would be pretty useful.
I also want those arrows from the old fms in the tactics

Blimey, where do I start..?
1) Improved graphics. I’m not saying they are awful in any way (a lot better than circular dots or commentary of old), but they can be improved on. I know that FM isn’t about the presentation per say, but when you cant see if there is a ‘dubious foul’ or not, it really hampers your gameplay.
2) Stadium Customisation. Basically, i’m all for having the ability to customise and make things your own. So I would like the ability to choose how my stadium looks inside and out, where my ‘singing section’ will sit to make the atmosphere better etc. Remember LMA Manager?
3) Youth players. Not only do I think that the correlation of wonderkids across the FM world is unfairly skewed towards South America, but when you upgrade your youth academy and recruitment to the max, you are still not getting any better players coming through. For example, my BOIS save was producing around 2-3 youngsters a season that could try and push for a first team place with awful facilities in the fourth div. 20 years, and major investments later (Maxed out infact) I will be lucky if I can get one in three seasons that will contend, even though I have maxed out the facilities?
4) Regens. FM produces wonderkids in mass numbers that have better PA’s than Messi. That needs to be changed…
I’m pretty sure I have a couple more. Not that I am slagging off the game or anything ;)

Unfortunately i disagree with you on your second point. you don’t see manager in reality telling the fans where/ where not to seat or directing the construction of the stadium. The game is football manager

18 июля, 2011 at 15:49
I get what you mean in that realistically, you wouldn’t expect a manager to have much input on those aspects. But, its about club management all the same. You can still have inputs on external influences in the game at the moment (ie feeder clubs that allow you to access new markets of revenue which in reality is controlled by the club director), so why not manage how other parts of the club?
Jon Crosby
18 июля, 2011 at 18:29
To second you Jake on that….
I remember playing LMA and being able to customise the stadium even if the board gave you a budget to work on with the stadium so you can manage your finance better as I’ve seen before when they buy a new stadium they got a loan out that isn’t needed.
But 110% Agree with you Jake

LMA 2001/02 stadium bulider was amazing! haha its not particularly realistic but it was great, kit design and such other things would be good

1) I would like something to be done about the media. It should be more involving somehow. When I say I think Getafe to win the spanish leauge the media should respond what a nutter. or whatever.
2) The dynamic league reputation is great but perhaps the money should be dynamic (somewhat) also.
Thats it I guess. I wouldn’t mind your suggestions being included aswell.

Oh wait. More options for the editor so that it is easier to create realistic leagues for other countries / adding lower leagues.

The ability to talk to your chairman if he decides to sell a player without your permission and explain to him why he is important to the team

Yeah, definatly you should be able to have a good old scrap in the press with your chairman

18 июля, 2011 at 15:51
More detailed board interaction. For instance, when applying for a managerial position, you could have an interview with that club’s board. Questions could be asked such as ‘what is your preferred playing style’ or ‘what is your transfer policy’ Then the answers you provide can play a small role in whether you get the job or not
Matt Clark
18 июля, 2011 at 15:55
As you improve the leagues reputation the money in this league should improve as should the quality of other clubs because of the increased tv and prize money
also i think the quality of regens should be changed, you should have some players that are immediately ready for first team football like owen or rooney but there should also be ones that dont become good enough until they are 22-23 like carragher this would make it more realistic as all the good regens are world class by 19 and its just not realistic having your squads average age being 20
Laxeyman
18 июля, 2011 at 16:06
The only major one for me is more interaction with the Chairman/Board, so that you can persuade them not to sell a player that you want to keep, or have a go at them when they sell a player without your permission. That’s it really :)

18 июля, 2011 at 16:26
More control when creating new rules using the editor such as being able to create any league format you want rather than just having a few basic options to chose from. Also i want to be able to edit international tournaments such as the copa america
Mrdiord
18 июля, 2011 at 16:44
I think the game would be more realistic if when you get the regens before a season you could chose players from different minor clubs dont just get some random players. And that the players dont become world class at 18-20.
Desmo Wenning
18 июля, 2011 at 17:28
Much more options in the Press conference, player/board interation and team talk. That’s all. :D

18 июля, 2011 at 18:49
I think a new feature could be that you are able to interact with the players that are on loan. Both at your club and the ones that you have sent away on loan. Interaction options could include asking how they are doing, asking them on developing specific traits and telling them to up their game.
Another option I would like to see is being able to interact with you feeder/parent clubs. This is in regards to upcoming youngsters, positions you need players for etc.
vaibhavc
18 июля, 2011 at 18:58
I would like to see the stadium’s layout like it is in real life. I would like to choose which youth players you get. More options to talking to players in the private chat option. The board actually knowing who is a suitable target to the club.
Vinners
18 июля, 2011 at 19:32
I would like realtime transfers, like the contract talks. Especially for when I get enquiries when I negotiate a reasonable transfer fee then they just reject I’d like to see if we can compromise especially if we’re only talking about a couple of thousand between the price :L
Also I know it’d be very difficult and probably impossible. But I would like to use a manager from another save in a new save so u keep as the same person right through all your saves. It wouldn’t update between saves but up to the moment you create the new save you use the same manager profile. But that’s just a dream as it’s probably difficult to implement.
Oh and I agree with your two ideas too :)
Darren Smith
18 июля, 2011 at 19:43
Awesome ideas guys, I agree with almost all of em’. As most of you know I’ve enjoyed a fruitful FM and can’t say I want the tactical or game engine side to change much (or I’ll have to adjust again lol.) Only kidding, but I do think they’ve gotten that area far more advanced than the rest.
The increase in money along with a countries reputation should be implemented, I also like the idea of having real time transfer negotiations to make it feel more realistic. But my favourite is been able to confront the board when they accept a bid for a player you don’t want to sell…although this would probably end up in me threatening to leave and then getting sacked lol :)
Johnny Karp

Thanks a lot for all the ideas folks, I admit that some of them are really interesting. I think I will make a post later including all of them if you don’t mind, or maybe send a «list of demands» to Sports Interactive :)

The ‘private chat’ area has so much potential, hopefully SI will continue to improve this, as well as more interaction with your board, directors and chairman, and staff.

theres always two things that ive really wanted in FM and they dont seem that amaizngly hard that it could never happen and those ideas are.
1. KIts. at the end of each season i would like to get given a selection of kit ideas my kit maker has come up with and then choose the one i want my team to wear for the new season. eg. a message comes up that has umbro asking me what design of kit i want for the new season, eg modern day remake of a classic kit then a few days later i get another message with some pictures of there ideas and Ultimately i choose what kit my team will be wearing for the new season.
2. When it comes to training i want to have the ability to go to my training ground and watch like shortened simulation of my players train and tell them what to do and see if they are improving what i tell them and stuff because I get bored of always pressing continue till i get to a game and I would like to something in between. This way you can see whos training well and who deserves a place in my lineup.
I think with these two additions FM would become even more amazing and famous then ever

I want to be able to view coach reports on my loan players, would be nice to have a proper look at their development while away on loan, match performances are good and all but I want to know whether they actually improve or not

Maybe some influence on the sponsors as well, i’m a bit tired of it just being a note every fourth or fifth year.
If you’ve been doing low league management you know that you get a ridiculous low amount of money of your shirt sponsor.
Johnny Karp

I agree, maybe they could include bonuses from the sponsors and more interaction with them.

Neymar is amazing and he’s 19 or 18, I don’t see that as a big problem. Messi was amazing at 19 too.

The thing I want is active rivalries, that is when you take a team for the lower league etc. you have no rivalries in the top division, so I want rivalries to develop and also fade away and I think this would add a lot more realism in the game
Johnny Karp
20 июля, 2011 at 09:18
I agree, they should call this feature «dynamic rivalries» :)

Good idea for a post to start with :) I think there are two points I would like to suggest:
Firstly the idea of watching training sessions, as this is what a real football manager spends the majority of his day doing. This would obviously enable you to pick players who are on form, you would also gain a greater insight of their overall development. On a more tactical level however, this feature would allow you to finer tune your tactic instead of having to watch a lot of full matches.
Secondly, and an area of football manager which I believe is still overlooked, would be the youth development system, mainly the academy aspect. For instance there should be a feature to create a certain footballing philosophy at your academy, i.e. like at Barcelona’s ‘La Masia’ where players are taught to retain possession and therefore produce many players of a similar mould i.e. a great touch and passing ability. In turn, your academy would produce players with specific attributes, attributes that are vital for your vision of football, you could even change the teachings in the academy to produce cynical minded players for example or players that are superior athletes etc, maybe even have coaches who also adhere to this vision, like where its says on a staff member’s profile ‘preferred playing style’ this could mean your vision is carried out more quickly than someone who has an opposing footballing philosophy. Obviously this could not be achieved overnight as Cruyff installed this ideal about 20 years ago.
Johnny Karp

The in-depth academy is a great idea!

Well…where do I begin:
Better interaction — pre-match talks, half time talk, player interaction — more options even manager interaction — why I can’t speak to the manager of national team?? I withdrawn Hazard from national team from some stupid friendly game against Gabon becasue Hazard week ago needed a rest and he was really tired…from that time he’s dropped from national team even when he’s best player in PL and missed the WC..if I can speak to the manager and explain him that look he’s tired I’d like to rest him for this friendly.
Better youth recruiting system…my academy didn’t produced good player for 4 years. All the good youth I have to scout around the world.
I want to see how my guys are doing in training. On dayly or weekly basis at least. So I know who is having holidays and who is working hard.
and some more but this is the basics
+ graphics — I want to see a manager (me) on the pitch. :) Better physics of player movement.

Hi I would like to see personal matters come into the game, as it can really effect your team or certain players, for instance when Rooney was accused of having an affair, the abuse he got on the pitch and from the media led to him missig some games for united, and poor form. Also when there was a bust up in the City camp the media questioned the harmony of the squad and I would like options for dealing with these problems as it would make the ga,e more realistic :)
Johnny Karp

I don’t think I would like to worry about the players’ love life but I guess that would add realism indeed.

I’d like a little animated presentation of trophies when you win. The little dudes go onto a platform in the middle of the pitch and lift the cup; or up some stairs like Wembley. And fireworks :)
Johnny Karp
2 августа, 2011 at 15:43
Fireworks would be nice :)

22 июля, 2011 at 14:54
What about being able to introduce leagues later on in the game. Like starting with just England turned on, then adding Germany and Spain, and countries your not actually managing in you can remove? It would keep people more interested and reaching new challenges.
Johnny Karp

I’m not a programming expert by any means but I doubt that would be possible.

29 июля, 2011 at 16:38
I would like to see slightly better graphics and the option to zoom in with a replay. I appreciate an optional zoom would produce a deterioration in quality but might be a good trade off.
Would like to see more choices in the player chat feature and an understanding in advance of the likely reaction.
Finally a save game editor. I know the purists will scream but if you buy the game its about ‘you’ and how you want to use it. If others don’t want it they can leave it alone
Johnny Karp
2 августа, 2011 at 15:42
The zoom feature sounds nice, I’d love to see that in the game.

i think recognition/increase in reputation of manager shouldn’t just be about finishing champions. Say i’m in charge on Bolton, and i finish third in the EPL, I would expect job offers knocking from top clubs around the region.
And wouldn’t it be cool to choose the kits your team wears, plus the sponsors you’d want to associate with.
Some negative aspects old football could also be introduced. like biased referees perhaps? hahah. we’ve all watch games where referee tends to favor the home side. e.g. man u and some clubs getting better, less hectic fixtures. e.g. arsenal hahah.
Johnny Karp

I thing that you already get such recognition, I was elected Premier League manager of the season in my first term in the Premiership with Vauxhall although we finished 9th.

I think the watching training idea is good. In fact I did say that in my post in the forum earlier this year. I would really like to see how they train and point out problems in their movement etc.
Another would be the addition of U17s to U9s. This would make the game huge but it gives even more depth to the youth academy. This idea is from FIFA Manager but I think if SI could incorporate it, it would be a greater success. Let’s say maybe SI can pick out a few famous schools for football in each country and have a school league. Managers can choose to watch these matches and watch school children. From there, they can pick up talent at young ages. This gives the manager more control over his youth academy. It will be time consuming for those who don’t like doing it. So, maybe an option to let your assistant watch and recommend young talent to you be added. If your youth intake is not enough, trials can be held and the manager will be the one overseeing everything. This also gives your coaches some management positions and experience since they can control these teams.
Also I would like more eye-pleasing menus. I feel that staring at screens which are mostly white or whatever backdrop, it would be better if the background changes when you go to another screen so on.
One more thing is maybe a newspaper. There could be updates everyday about gossip and fixtures worldwide only about football. For example, John Terry’s affair could hit the headlines and his form is affected and so on. There should be different tabs for the loaded countries’ fixtures. This would make the game more enjoyable and realistic. Also, for people like me, who play countries like England but load our own countries just to see how they do, this would be good. So whenever I feel like looking at Singapore’s league I can just pick up and check the newspaper.
Press conferences become quite repetitive and predictable after a while so I hope SI can do something about this.
Another thing about youth academies is that we may be able to build youth camps/ academies in other countries so we can look at talent there too. For example, I build a youth academy branch in Spain with a English Team. Then, I can recruit local Spanish youth players too. It’s much nicer this way then.
I seem to comment alot about the youth academies since I like developing youth players but I’m sure they are good ideas!
Johnny Karp
