This FM 2014 player profile of Raphael Varane shows a rock-solid central defender, both strong and quick, tall and good in the air and also with excellent mental attributes. There’s not much that can be said about Varane, you all know him from the previous versions of the game and real life too. Real Madrid are not willing to sell him, I can’t blame them, but an offer of 40 million pounds does persuade them to let him go at the start of the game.
His progress in my test save doesn’t necessarily reflect what he can become under human management, I am sure that the technical attributes can be improved even more. What impressed me were the mental attributes, especially the 20 for concentration and 19 for positioning. If you can spare 35 million for a centre back then you could buy Varane, but considering that you have good cheaper options like Balanta or even Doria I guess that would be a waste of money.

It’s very surprising to see that, this guys technical attributes actually drops. Especially heading which is very key attribute for defender. His physical attributes also did not seem to improve that’s good. I also had same problem with him in FM12(i did not buy 13 version). Don’t know if sega use additional programming for this kid. His outstanding mental attributes will always provide good result overall. Hopefully with human management he will develop even better.

Anyone had any luck with Real Madrid selling him at any time at all? Looks great but shows no sign of transferring on my saves.

Tough to get without breaking the bank, I’ve never seen him leave Real in any of my saves.

He always gets weakness of being an injury proneness in my saves. For 20mil (as said by my scout) I don’t want a patience, consider I already have Januzaj and Persie in my squad
