This FM 2014 player profile of Raphael Varane shows a rock-solid central defender, both strong and quick, tall and good in the air and also with excellent mental attributes. There’s not much that can be said about Varane, you all know him from the previous versions of the game and real life too. Real Madrid are not willing to sell him, I can’t blame them, but an offer of 40 million pounds does persuade them to let him go at the start of the game.

His progress in my test save doesn’t necessarily reflect what he can become under human management, I am sure that the technical attributes can be improved even more. What impressed me were the mental attributes, especially the 20 for concentration and 19 for positioning. If you can spare 35 million for a centre back then you could buy Varane, but considering that you have good cheaper options like Balanta or even Doria I guess that would be a waste of money.
