Dorchester Town Story — September 2009

Hello dear friends, welcome back to the Dorchester Town lower league Football Manager 2010 story! My fist season in Blue Square South started pretty well, the new bunch of players produced a few good performances and earned quite a few wins for the club. We did lose two games though, both away from home and both 3-0. I guess you’re curious to see how things went in September, I was too ;)

The first game was away at 12th placed Worcester, an in-form team that was enjoying a four match unbeaten run. We got off to a great start as right winger Domondi banged one straight into the top corner from inside the box but then we had to defend. We did that well until 33 minutes, my centre backs were showing so much confidence that they started passing the ball around inside our own box! You guessed right, the ball was intercepted and the first half ended all square. We resumed our attacking game after the break and it took us only nine minutes to get back on track, striker Almani broke through the offside trap and placed it in. Then we controlled the match until the final whistle, a well deserved victory.

We went back to the Avenue Stadium for the next game, 8th placed Havant & Waterlooville were coming to pay us a visit. We took the game to our opponents during the first half, they couldn’t cope with our passing game and we deservedly scored two goals in the first 45 minutes. The second half was a bit more balanced but we managed to score another goal with a powerful shot from the edge of the area. I have to admit though that most keepers in the world would have saved that shot :)

We had another home game coming up against 19th placed Welling and it was quite important since the board picked it for a fan day. We had a few more spectators than we usually do, 588 people, and my players seemed to feel under pressure: we were dominating the game but the finishing was annoyingly wasteful. The flood gates finally opened after we scored the first goal so we banged in another couple in the next eight minutes, the fans were quite happy with our display. I hope they’ll be coming again to watch us play, maybe they’ll bring a few friends with them, there’s plenty of room as we can accommodate more than 5000 people in the stands…

The last league game of the month was away at 15th placed Bishop’s Strotford, I was hoping to add another win to our good run. The players were full of confidence and they turned the first half hour into a living hell for the opponents. Left winger Alexandru Gheba was totally unleashed, I think that the opposition right back will remember him for quite some time: he banged in two goals and his runs were creating panic in their defense. Our spectacular style didn’t impress the referee though, he showed us seven yellow cards during the first half, two of them to the same player, centre back Ryan Carolan. We were down to 10 men but we managed to keep the defense tight and walked away with another three points.

Former leaders Dover dropped quite a few points this month so we bounced up to the top of the table! I guess I have to think about promotion now but I think we’re bound to have some setbacks in the next few months, we’ll see about promotion in December.

We had another game to play before the end of the month, the FA Cup second qualifying round against Isthmian D1S side Horsham YMCA. The opponents were rather poor and I guess my players had the wrong attitude on the pitch, they seemed overconfident and playing much worse than usual. Our opponents did their defensive job well so they earned the right to play the game again a few days later.

Before the replay the board announced that they decided to inject a few pennies into the club, that’s always a nice thing to hear. We still are 250,000 pounds in debt though so the financial situation is not looking good at all.

We had to play Horsham YMCA again and I chose to rest most of the first team regulars, the backup players had to prove their worth. We had a rather poor first half but managed to settle things after the break thanks to another goal from right winger Carol Domondi. We could have scored a few more but that’s how it ended, the finishing was quite poor yet again.

We’ll get to meet Horsham FC in the next round, they don’t seem to be any better than their mates from YMCA. October will end with an important game against Dover, I don’t know why it was scheduled so early since we just played away against them in August.

That’s how it went folks, I was quite pleased with the four straight wins and I can only hope that we’ll keep on winning in the next games. I’m thrilled that the clown acts in defense stopped after the first game, I hope my defenders will remain as reliable as they were in the last games. Thanks for reading, stay tuned for the next update! ;)

    Hi Johnny

    You really are proving that you are one of the best football manager players out their. I know that it is early in the season but the from that you are currently showing you should have no problems in at least gaining a play-off spot.

    Haha, the odds for that happening. Horsham is probably out for revenge, watch out!

    Doing a wonderful job, Johnny! It will turn out to be a nice little rivalry between our stories from now on.

    Hi Johnny, the good start continues, well done! It seems you’ve transformed Dorchester with all the Romanian players. I think promotion is a real possibility now, good luck!

    I am sure good things will continue to come with you in their reign mate. The players came in and did a really good job. Its likely you will get at least a play-off spot when season ends.

    Great month!

    Am pretty tempted to start a lower league game!

    But will hold off for now I think, I am going to jump on the band wagon and say you definatly will have a shot at promotion!

    No pressure! :)

    @Ana
    Thanks for the comment Ana. There is some pressure because of the financial deficit, I guess that getting promoted could improve that aspect but I have no guarantees. Are you thinking about a Spanish lower league career?

    Yeah Johnny,

    Problem is I can only go as far down as Second divison B, one league below where I started at Real Union.

    So it will hardly be a rise to the top like in England or what you are trying with this story!

    Shame they dont have any more leagues lower in Spain, like England have League 1,2 Conference etc…

    Ana, from what I know there is a way to customize the game and play in lower Spanish leagues. See if this helps: http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=2265

    Hi Johnny
    Another Blyth Spartans in the making? Terrific start to your career with some impressive wins too. Early days of course but the signs are all there for an assault on the title. Well done!

    @Sears and Kevin
    Thanks for the confidence, I’m quite impressed with the team so far but you can always expect sudden drops in form at this level. There’s still a long way to go.

    Hi Johnny,

    I downloaded it and it looked really good but it keeps crashing when I try to play my first league game!

    Shame, I think I will stick with my Real Union game for now and start a newer game when I can think of a team that would make a good story!

    Anyway back on topic! I never wished you good luck! So here it is,

    Good luck Johnny!! :D

    Hi mate, with all the players you have you will have no problem beating Thurrock. To be frank I had forgotten the players that I have in my first season:)

      12 мая, 2010 at 08:24

      @Lye
      I hope we will beat them, we’ll see.
      @Ana
      Thanks for the good luck wish. :) I’m sorry that didn’t work, I’ll let you know if I manage to find another solution.

    This is an excellent story, I thnk I read the whole of the notts county one without posting. I’ve just started a career with Chester in the blue square premier. As you know they start with a 25 point deduction. Anyway marc Joseph, marc bridge wilkinson and willy top have all been fantastic for me all free tranfers and I think all would play in the bss. I got nicky ajose on loan for 6 months and think he’s brilliant. I can see you acheiving a play off place with ease johnny keep it up, and good luck

    I’m chris by the way. I’m a mufc fan from reading and I love football manager. There’s a lot of these kind of websites online but this one has to be the best one I’ve seen arond. Well done

    @Chris
    Thanks a lot for your first comment and for reading the story. I had a nice Chester career in FM 2009 but it’s going to be a lot tougher for you considering the massive 25 point deduction. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!
    Thanks for the compliment, I’m quite flattered that you consider this website to be the best one.

    Hi Johnny,

    You are doing good!

    so far in my games even if i have a good balance,but my wage budget is to tight the board refuses to give me more money,is there a relation between balance and probability to get a money injection as you receive from your board this moth?

    • Johnny Karp

      11 июня, 2010 at 11:14

      The board cash injections are highly unpredictable, I don’t know if there is any factor that triggers those injections.

  19. Mariano Vagator

    11 июня, 2010 at 16:16

    Maybe the cash injections are related to the chairman status, if he loves the club,if he just enjoys life at it…

    or maybe related to the coorporate power of the club….

    i forgot to say that im on the verge of signing adam eckersly from ac horsens. Kasper schmeichel has been a complete shambles in goal for notts county so im gonna replace him with Ben Amos on loan fram man u.

    • Johnny Karp

      23 августа, 2010 at 18:33

      Schmeichel did pretty well for me until a certain point if I remember correctly but Amos surely is better.

        23 августа, 2010 at 18:50

        i thought Ben was better than schmeichel,he could not save a shot for toffees and there nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
