Dorchester Town Story — January 2010

Hello dear friends and welcome to a fresh episode of the Dorchester Town Football Manager 2010 story! I am slowly recovering from the long and tiring trip, I am still a bit short on sleep but I hope to make a full recovery during the week end. Back to the story then, my Dorchester were top of the table at the end of 2009, four points clear of the second placed team and with a game in hand. It was a big surprise for everybody in Blue Square South and a big reason for our fans to be optimistic. Let’s see if we managed to keep up the pace in January.

The first game of the new year was away at our fierce rivals, Weymouth, but since they were down in 21st place I was hoping for a convincing win. Our game was surely made easier by the sending off of one of Weymouth‘s players during the first half but we only managed to capitalize on our domination after the interval. We scored three goals in the last 45 minutes, all of them came as a result of nicely orchestrated team moves and I was extremely pleased about that. The players were passing the ball around with ease and we could have easily scored a few more goals.

Our next game was at home against our friend Lye‘s beloved Thurrock. But since Lye isn’t managing them in my game it was fairly easy for my team to prevail, we kept the game under control throughout the 90 minutes. We managed to score two goals, both of them coming from striker Alexandru Almani whose good movement off the ball allowed him to bang in two placed shots after latching on to through balls. The team was looking unbeatable, I was surprised and impressed.

Some bad news disrupted my optimism, my board refused to find us a parent club yet again… I can’t understand why but they did. I made offers to loan several players from higher divisions but only one of them accepted to join us for a few months, Brighton‘s midfielder Jamie Smith. He will surely add some quality to our midfield but I was hoping to bring in a couple more players.

Next up, an away game at mid-table side St. Albans. The team produced yet another good solid performance and striker Sergiu Jivan gave us the lead in the first half with a placed finish. The last 45 minutes saw the other striker, Marius Dabu, unleashing all his talent and netting his first hat-trick for the club. So far, so good: three wins out of three games, nine goals scored and none conceded! Go to the next page to read the rest of the story.

    Brilliant Story Johnnny! I followed your Notts County story too. Your tactics remind me of the ones employed by Valeriy Lobanovskyi with the constant harrassing of the opposition and short passing, don’t know if thats what you based it on? You seem to get some great players despite the players lacking key attributes, i.e. I remember your striker having 4 finishing, just wondered what stats you look for in particular players?

    Hi Johnny, another great month, no goals conceded, well done! I think you’re pretty much nailed on for promotion, and the new midfielder looks good so he should make your side even better.

    Thats title winning form mate. I can’t see you losing the title and the promotion spot now. Your team has been awesome all this while and i believe we have not seen the end of it. Absolutely brilliant.

    Congratulations Johnny

    Good Month

    Have to say this will probably be too similar to the Blyth Spartans campaign but I’ll still follow this story.
    Would have enjoyed the Arsenal u 25 story better but oh well

    Good luck

    @Jack
    Thanks for the compliment. I wouldn’t say that Lobanovsky inspired me, I would rather say that my tactic is a mixture between Guus Hiddink’s aggressive approach and Lucescu’s or Guardiola’s attacking style with lots of possession and short passing. About the players, there isn’t much to choose from at this level so I’m looking for players with good physical and mental attributes, technique is just a bonus for now since I can’t sign world class players.
    @Laxeyman
    Thanks mate, I hope that we can keep it going like this.
    @Lye
    Thanks a lot, we need just a couple more good months like this one.
    @Jake
    Thanks. Any story is unique in its own way, there might be similarities but that’s why this game is beautiful, you never know what to expect.

    Hi Johnny
    The King returns! Well done on an exciting 5 game winning streak.You have certainly hit your stride again after returning from your field trip. I think a title is not too far away. You certainly have a knack at finding players. :)

    I like this story. I did look at Dorchester but I thought Chester were a harder challenge. Going 5 games without conceeding is a huge acheivement at this level. I think the league title will come with games to spare. Well done

    @Kevin
    Thanks. I guess the players had a good time while I was away :)
    @Chris
    Thanks. I can’t remember going so many games without conceding in the other lower league games that I played, with Chester and the Blyth Spartans.

    Johnny, thats just breathtaking. Winning every game, and conceding no goals, great stuff! Title is yours unless the impossible happens.Well done!

      Dabu is employed as a complete forward (attack) but sometimes I have to use him as a defensive forward (support). Thanks for the good luck wish.
