Dorchester Town Story — End Of Season #1

Hello folks, it’s time for the last update of my first season at the helm of Blue Square South side Dorchester Town. As you know we were top of the table at the end of February, 14 points clear of the second placed team and with a game in hand. We had a great run in 2010 and I was hoping to extend that for a few more games and claim the title as soon as possible. Let’s see what happened.

The first new face is 17 year old right back Grant Hall from Brighton. He is a pretty talented youngster and although he won’t be a first team regular right away I hope that he will make good progress quickly.

The second youngster is versatile midfielder James Marwood from Newcastle, I brought him in to provide cover for all roles in midfield. His versatility could keep him at the club for a while as a backup player and hopefully he will develop into a first team regular.

The last signing was 20 year old midfielder Jason Mycoe from Welling, he’s mainly a right winger but he can also play as a central midfielder. He is still young and if my scout is right he can make some progress in the next couple of seasons.

Here’s the final league table, we managed to get 100 points! The other team that got promoted to Blue Square Premier is Newport Co, they defeated Dover 4-0 in the play-off final.

Let’s have a look at the player stats for this season, as usual sorted by average rating. Centre back Ryan Carolan tops the table, he was one of my key players in defense. Striker Sergiu Jivan was the club’s top goalscorer with 23 goals but Marius Dabu was essential in the second part of the season with his 16 goals in 19 appearances. Overall I’m satisfied with most of the players but quite a few of them would probably have to leave the club at the end of the season. I guess we’ll sell around 10 of the backup players but I’ll think a bit more about that.

Striker Sergiu Jivan was elected player of the season, I’m very proud of him! He is still young and I guess he will be staying at the club for at least a couple more seasons.

Despite the league triumph the club’s financial situation is not rosy, we are over 200,000 pounds in debt and that could drastically limit my transfer and wage budget for next season.

Until then I’m going to enjoy the triumphant promotion and then start worrying about next season. Thank you for reading and for supporting the Magpies! :) I also hope that you are enjoying the World Cup and the contest that we have here on the website.

    Hi Johnny, a great season, you’ve done really well with Dorchester this season. A few good signings as well, hopefully they can develop and serve you well in the Blue Square Premier. The signings you made in pre season have been very good, the two strikers have had great seasons!

    @Warren, Laxeyman, Lye and Sears
    Thanks a lot for your kind words and good wishes, I guess I’ll have a pretty busy pre-season. I’ll try to take my time and scout players carefully but I also hope I’ll have some money to work with. We’ll see.

    @Ravenie & Kevin
    Thanks a lot, I’m quite curious to see if the board will finally manage to understand why we need a parent club. Apart from that, free transfers will be my main occupation again :)

    Well done Johnny! Superb.

    Whats the capacity of the stadium and what was your average attendance — as I suspect when you start getting money next year — the board may look at this and that will dent you again — but this is all part of the journey of taking a team to the top!

    Good luck and look forward to the next update.

    @Chris
    Thanks a lot. The average attendance was around 800 but the stadium is pretty big, around 5,000. So I guess they won’t be looking to expand it soon.
