Dorchester Town Story — End Of Season #1

Hello folks, it’s time for the last update of my first season at the helm of Blue Square South side Dorchester Town. As you know we were top of the table at the end of February, 14 points clear of the second placed team and with a game in hand. We had a great run in 2010 and I was hoping to extend that for a few more games and claim the title as soon as possible. Let’s see what happened.

The first game was supposed to be away at Hapton & Richmond but the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch so my players could enjoy a nice break before the next game. We had to play away at 8th placed Braintree, a solid team that was still hoping to push for a play-off spot. We got off to a good start and centre back Bosko Visatovic gave us the lead with a powerful corner kick header, just what we needed. We managed to keep the game quiet after the goal, we kept possession very well and secured the three points without breaking too much sweat. A play-off spot was officially ours but we surely wanted more than that.

The next game was at home with 15th placed Weston-super-Mare, a team that we already defeated away from home. We dominated the game as we usually do at home and managed to settle things in the first half thanks to centre back Bosko Visatovic, he scored twice from corner kicks in only three minutes! Left winger Alexandru Gheba scored our third goal on a counter attack and it was all over, we only needed one more win to secure the title!

The next game was the previously postponed one, away at 13th placed Hampton&Richmond. We had to play on a muddy pitch and that required a lot of effort from the players. Fortunately striker Marius Dabu was in his killer mood again, he settled the nerves with a superb double and then we just had to keep things under control. We conceded an unlucky goal four minutes from time but never looked like losing our three points, the title was ours!

It was a great moment for the club and for our fans but I told them that this was just the beginning!

We still had six games to play but I used most of them to test a few new signings (more about that later) and also gave more chances to the backup players. We recorded three wins, two draws and one defeat but that didn’t matter too much anymore.

As I said I managed to bring in a few new players right away, all of them for free. They were recommended to me by my two scouts, let’s see who they are:

    Hi Johnny, a great season, you’ve done really well with Dorchester this season. A few good signings as well, hopefully they can develop and serve you well in the Blue Square Premier. The signings you made in pre season have been very good, the two strikers have had great seasons!

    @Warren, Laxeyman, Lye and Sears
    Thanks a lot for your kind words and good wishes, I guess I’ll have a pretty busy pre-season. I’ll try to take my time and scout players carefully but I also hope I’ll have some money to work with. We’ll see.

    @Ravenie & Kevin
    Thanks a lot, I’m quite curious to see if the board will finally manage to understand why we need a parent club. Apart from that, free transfers will be my main occupation again :)

    Well done Johnny! Superb.

    Whats the capacity of the stadium and what was your average attendance — as I suspect when you start getting money next year — the board may look at this and that will dent you again — but this is all part of the journey of taking a team to the top!

    Good luck and look forward to the next update.

    @Chris
    Thanks a lot. The average attendance was around 800 but the stadium is pretty big, around 5,000. So I guess they won’t be looking to expand it soon.

    Congratulations!!

    A fantastic achievement and hopefully you can find some more free players to strengthen your side.

    Good luck next season Johnny! :D
