Hi everyone and welcome back to my Bury FC story. I last left where Bury were in 7th position. With the January transfer window coming up, we needed to sign a defender or two to stop the goals leaking in!
Transfer Window
Regarding the outgoings of the club, January didn’t start according to what we planned as I saw this!
Borduex offered 15.75m! for Ronaldo, a player who is currently rated as 4 stars with an extra half a star as potential. He is also only 19 and it is terrible he is leaving us 6months after joining us. I advise everyone to not offer a minimum fee release clause in a players contract, it can really come back to sting you! But then this happened!
Ronaldo was injured all the way through January and he failed a medical which means Ronaldo will be staying at the club for the timebeing!
Those of you who don’t remember Ronaldo, here he is:
Teams were also sniffing around Petr Lastuvka and constant bids were rejected, so I decided to offer him a new contract:
Another player that was targeted by teams was Antonio Quimbamba. Bids were coming in continuously, a maximum of 3.6m from Arsenal.
I was also fearing that Emmanuel Adebayor would be departing in this window as he has a 10m release clause in this contract! Blackburn were one of the teams interested but thankfully it didn’t come to anything. I repeat again!: I advise everyone to not offer a minimum fee release clause in a players contract, it can really come back to sting you!
Nevertheless 5 players did depart the club, simply because they were surplus to requirements which bought in a massive 10m!
Yep, the ‘legendary’ Ali Fuseini has departed the club ;’-( It’s a sad moment for everyone at the club. He was the player that played a part in everything the club had done. However this season he was sat in the reserves and there was no point for him to stay at the club as it wasn’t benefiting the club or him. And at 26 years of age, he still has a lot of football to play. This was his career at the club:
Smalling was signed on a free transfer 6 months ago and had played terrible! Therefore I am quiet happy we got 4m for him :D Amine Linganzi was only needed for 1 season and there was too many players in his position, so he departed also.
Transfers In
3 players was signed in this January Transfer window, 2 which are defenders.
The first signing is Fahri Aytac for 2m. You may remember, that this transfer was agreed 18months ago and he has made improvements since then! I am going to copy what Johnny did in his recent posts and show your these improvments:
Yellow = Attribute improved by 1
Green = Attribute improved by 2
The next signing is 34 year old experienced defender Kolo Toure, on loan from Man City.
The next signing is Ze Carlos, 19 year old defender from Internacional for 5m. He will be given these 6months to settle into the team.
So, that wraps up everything in the January Window.
Premier League Results
We were constantly winning games but only managed to come 3 clean sheets in this set of games. Adebayor bagged another hat-trick against Birmingham.
League Table
Bury have a chance of getting top 4! 1 point seperating us and Everton! Bury have also scored the most goals in the league…. It won’t easy getting top 4 as we face Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City in our next run in.
FA Cup Results
FA Cup dream ended early as we were draw against ‘giants’ Man City. They finally got there revenge on me but it wasn’t that easy!
Anyway, that conclude my posts. A busy January window, and probably the most hectic one I have ever had in any FM game!
By the way, Ronaldo signed a new contract with us, so he doesn’t have a minimum fee release clause anymore :D

Very wise to offer Ronaldo a new deal without the annoying clause!!! Thankfully you got away without losing any players, also did well with who you sold. I think Bury have a great set up and investing in youth will secure this. Part 2 of my finance guide will help you I think. Anyway, great work and I can’t wait to see if you make top four or just Europa League. Great achievement either way.

I think you can make it to the top four if you can draw against Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, and Liverpool. Man United seem to have already won the title since they are seven points ahead.

That’s a good position you’re in Sayam, you managed to hang on to Ronaldo and removed his clause so that went well
Seems like players signing for smaller reputation teams like to «insert» these release fee clauses to let them move on quickly if the bigger clubs come sniffing
Pedersen and Adebayor are doing well for you, and it seems like Ronaldo chipped him with a few goals in the last 2 games
Poor Kolo Toure looks like he’s reaching the end of his career, Fahri and Ze Carlos look very solid at their young age

Yeah I think players with ‘big’ potential to like to use the smaller teams with that clause.
Yep, Pedersen and Adebayor are a lethal strikeforce in the Premiership :D

Great job Sayam, you really have a good chance of playing Champions League football next season and that is simply fantastic! I am happy that you managed to keep Ronaldo, I didn’t have that luck unfortunately (more details in my upcoming post :) )

Haha, it sounds like it is getting to everyone. Yep totally agree with the minimum release clause thing. Has happened to me on 4 occasions now with some top class players. Have to be thinking when you sign a players contract now ;).
Anyway, your story is fantastic mate. Top four is a real possibility, so what you have to play the giants of the premier league? You have proved before that you can step up to the mark.

I agree 100% on the minimum release fee my next Coruxo post will show why!!
But a great run and am glad you manged to keep your star players, Europe is definatly there but it could be even better if you can grab a champions league position!!
