Ana — FM 2011 : Veracruz, Season 21

Hello everyone!

First Transfer Window

Arturo Delgado

So I made only one signing in and let no players go. I was very happy with the squad as I was very pleased with my players but I added Delgado for £1.8 million, he is a fullback and is another talent at our club.

Opening Stage Results

A mixed start in all honesty some bad results some good but we managed to seal the playoff places again so lets have a look at my luck this time around!

Opening Stage Playoff Stage

So we made the final after beating Chivas probably the best team in Mexico, that followed another win so we made the playoff final!

Opening Stage Playoff Final

Not surprised are you?! I hate the playoffs and I cant wait to leave Mexico, I really hate this league setup!

Second Transfer Window

So let two players go, Fernandez was a back up defender but Evandro was a huge player for us and has been since I bought him, but good money for a great player.

I made only two new signings so will post them now :

Abraham Zamora

Siaka Traore

So both forward thinking players, Zamora is a striker that I payed £1.5 million for and is rated four stars in potential, Traore was bought as Aitchedji my excellent defender needed someone to help him settle so he advised Siaka Traore so I bought him for a million pounds and is a very decent looking player.

The Closing Stage

Whoops, took a picture of the league instead of the groups but we did qualify for the playoffs we were unbeaten so you just know what is going to happen in the playoff’s!!

Closing Stage Playoff’s

Nothing to say really, we were the best team in the closing stage but lost it at Tecos and believe me they didnt play that well. Very frustrating….

Final Player Ratings Of The Season

Star Man- Juan Cervantes

Well Cervantes was my star man topping the average ratings. Perez had a great season stepping in to replace Evandro and Aitchedji was again excellent at the back. Gonzalez had another good goal scoring season and Zamora looks a talent for my team.

Cup Competitions

Copa Libertadores

The Final First Leg

The Final Second Leg

Wow! I cant be more happy with my team after making the final, and despite a poor performance in both legs we really over achieved to even get their. After coming through a very tricky group we managed to beat a couple of massive sides including Cruzeiro and River. The final was a let down but Fluminense were just too good, but still a great achievment.

Superliga

The Final

Am not sure how I qualified for this competition but we managed to win it which was nice! We didnt play too well until the final where we put in a fantastic display and ran out comfortable winners.

Champions Cup

First Leg

Second Leg

Another trophy! This was the winners of the opening stage (Veracruz) against the winners of the closing stage (Chivas) we were helped by the early red card but were dissapointing in the second leg but held out for an overall 4-2 win.

North American Champions League

Group Stage + Qualification Results

Quarter And Semi Final Results

The Final First Leg

The Final Second Leg

Yay!! :D Another champions league done! I cant believe the final I was worried knowing how good Chivas are but they threw it away by getting three men sent off, and we took full advantage. The home leg we did what we needed as we were never going to throw and eight goal lead away, but this game can do some wierd things!

Conclusion

Phew, what a long season!

Hope I didnt lose you through out that but Mexico is such a confusing place and I cant wait to leave. I have accepted a new job already as I look to seal the final two champions league to finish my challenge.

I really didnt enjoy Mexico, I still am not sure how I qualified for anything!

So I feel a sense of relief that this part of my challenge is over, I wanted the North American champions league and I got it. With a bit of luck I could have maybe won the Copa Libertadores also but I dont mind that, I added a third champions league so only two left!

Again thanks for reading a very long post, and for commenting and staying with me in this journey, three down two to go!

I will post my new team in my next post as I look to add either the Copa Libertadores or the European champions league to my collection, so until then goodbye! :)

Confusing indeed. So you played in both Champions League’s in the same season?

Well done anyway. Looking forward to seeing more.

      Thanks,

Yeah we qualified for both champions leagues but I am not sure how it worked out. We did play both in the same season but it did carry over so I posted them all together.

    Hi Ana
Apart form those play-offs…AGAIN you really had quite the season collecting a fair amount of trophies. Great effort in the Copa de Libertadores as you faced some really stiff competition. Good luckwith your next team and by the way it’s rained for four straight days in Toronto!

      Thanks Kevin,

The playoffs just annoy me! But we did win a few competitions which was very pleasing.

Hopefully its sunny where you are, its still quite gloomy here. :(

Hello Ana, a good win in the North American Champions League, how did the guy get sent off after 2 minutes, what was he thinking, probably wanted to set a new record, you thoroughly thumped Chivas in the final, too bad you couldn’t win the Libertadores too, looking forward to see where you are off to next, just Europe and South America left eh

      17 мая, 2011 at 19:25

      Hello and thanks!

He was sent of for an elbow but he may have set a record! The second player was sent of a two footed tackle so they didnt help themselves.

Thankfully we took full advantage and could have scored more!

You are correct only them two left so fingers crossed I get them both! :)

Well done Ana, I was impressed with the Copa Libertadores run, you took the team to the final against all odds. I was sure that you were going to win the North American Champions League, the team was by far the best in the tournament. I hope that your new job is in Argentina, maybe River Plate? :) Or Boca Juniors? :)

    • Ana Garcia

      17 мая, 2011 at 19:29

      Thanks Johnny,

I was also impressed with how we did but Fluminense were a cut above so wasnt too dissapointed with losing to them.

I was fairly confident in the NACL as the teams were equal or worse than us, but wasnt expecting Chivas to collapse!

You may be right, just wait and see! :)

Yey, despite more bad fortune in the play-offs your season finished on a high. Winning the all important CL is all that matters even if you don’t know how you qualified.

Can’t wait to see who’s up next. I just hope you don’t land somewhere as complicated as Mexico. :)

    • Ana Garcia

      17 мая, 2011 at 19:31

      Thanks Darren,

Hate playoffs, so I half expected to lose which is frustrating. Mexico is complicated and annoying no wonder my Dad left for Spain!!

But like you said I got what I wanted and am very happy to be leaving! :)

Wow what a win against Chivas in the champions league and you have done very well to get 3 trophies look forward to the next team :)

    • Ana Garcia

      17 мая, 2011 at 19:33

Ha!, I like you name! :)

I agree probably my biggest ever win on this game, and in a final against one of the best teams in Mexico made it even better.

They did throw the game away but I dont mind too much!

    Hey Ana
Great win against Chivas, 8-0! One less competition to deal with. And as usual, there was a playoff lost! You had a lot of competitions this year. I am looking forward to seeing which team you accepted.

    • Ana Garcia

      17 мая, 2011 at 19:37

      Thanks!!

Yeah 10-1 in total which was quite amazing! Chivas did throw the game away with the loss of two men after 35 minutes so we created a whole lot of chances.

Am just glad we took a few to make the return leg a celebration!

The team I accepted are already half way through there season, but I really wanted to leave Mexico ASAP!!

The Superliga is something like the Europa League, the second-rated continental league. I still dont know how you got into both though. Good results and I’m looking forward to your new team. Fluminese maybe?

    • Ana Garcia

      17 мая, 2011 at 19:39

      Thanks,

Mexican sides can play in both the Copa Libertadores and the North American champions league I guess winning the opening stage allowed us to qualify for both?

Or maybe winning the Superliga or even the champions cup I really have no idea its not that well explained.

      Maybe, wait and see! :)

Sorry that this question is so late, but when you managed in South Africa, who was the scout you took with you from FCAK to Swallows? I’ve really enjoyed the story so far, and can’t wait until your next post. Maybe a suprise return to St Gallen to finish a glorious career?
    All the best, Brazza

    • Ana Garcia

      17 мая, 2011 at 19:48

      Hi Brazza,

      Thanks for commenting!

Great question about the scout! I just loaded my game his name is Thabo Mabaso he is a real life player who continued after he retired and he is still at the Moroko Swallows now!

He helped me find the best South African talent, infact for my next club I may sign him!

I want to win the Copa libertadores and then the European champions league but you are right I have some unfinished business at St Gallen would be a nice swan-song!

A trophy filled season Ana, well done! The play offs really do hate you, but well done on the Champions League win, and I can see why you hate Mexico, it looks like a really annoying system they have there. Looking forward to seeing who your new team is, maybe it’s finally a European team? I’m sure you’ll do well with whoever they are :)

    • Ana Garcia

      17 мая, 2011 at 19:50

      Thanks Laxeyman!

It is very annoying! I hate the system and I much prefer a league system!

But I got what I wanted so I didnt hesitate to leave!

We will find out in my next post! :)

WOOP WOOP! Another Champions League trophy in the bag! Get on!

Congrats Ana, and to get to the final of the Copa Libertadores was an amazing achievement! I can’t believe your in season 21 of this story…massive respect for keeping it up, bet there’s definitely times when you’ve wanted to throw the towel in…especially with all the playoff woes!

Again well done…and I can’t wait to see where you end up in season 22…so HURRY UP lol

    Regards

      Thanks Martin!

      Only two to go!!

Yeah, I cant believe I have played this for so long but I am enjoying the challenege and I am very determined to complete it!

I have enjoyed every team bar Veracruz oddly, I hate the Mexican league setup. That was the least enjoyable experience I haved so far.

My next post will be soon hopefully, I finish work early on Friday so am going to try and post it when I get home!

    Hello Ana!

This has been quite a good season for you! Finally you will be leaving Mexico, a league that is quite confusing. 2 to go, really looking forward to your new team.

    • Ana Garcia

      19 мая, 2011 at 19:31

      Hi! :)

Thanks, am really happy to be leaving Mexico it was very confusing and I really dislike the league set-up!

Two to go! Am surprised with myself that I have done as well as I have, so am confident I can complete this challenge!

      Fingers crossed!

  14. Sibo

    19 мая, 2011 at 18:18

    Well done Ana!

You got one CL in your first attempt so it wasn’t that bad, and it was the one that allows you to leave! Well done!

I don’t think it really matters who you go to, as you will bring success no matter what, but good luck! ;-)

  15. Ana Garcia

    19 мая, 2011 at 19:33

    Thanks Sibo!!

Yeah the final was brilliant, I didnt expect to beat Chivas but there ill-discipline cost them so was very happy!

Am very happy to be leaving Mexico, and thanks! Hoping I can bring the same success to my new club!

    :)

    Can’t believe I haven’t posted on here.

Nothing to say but a massive congratulations to you! This save is really something and is one of my favourite stories :). 8-0 thump in the final was a brilliant result, even if they did end up getting 3 players sent off. Deserved to win!

Hopefully you can get a ‘high end’ job in Europe or SA now. I’m hedging my bets on either Santos or Palmerias.

    Good luck Ana :)

      Gracias! :)

It one of my favourite games I have played and am determined to complete it! It was a surprise the final agaisnt Chivas and it should have been alot closer, but I did deserve to win!!

LoL! My next club is indeed a big club, but I would have taken any job to get out of Mexico!
