Ana — FM 2011 : Veracruz, Season 20

Hello everyone!

Once again welcome to my long journey to be crowned champions league winner in all five different continents. So far I have claimed two and am determined to claim my third here at Veracruz in Mexico, even if the league set-up is very confusing!

Playoff’s hate me, and seeing as Mexico is full of them I would have to break my curse if I wanted to succeed. Last time I left you I lost both playoff games in the opening and closing stages but I feel my team is improving so lets have a look at how my season went.

So with lots to get through, lets begin.

Nothing won.

African Cup Of Nations : 2023

Egypt (October 2025 – February 2027)

Nothing Won.

Mexico (September 2028 — Present)

Nothing yet.

I tried to tidy my C.V up a little and I think it reads a little easier now, so lets get on with trying to win something with Veracruz and Mexico!

————————————

Transfers In And Out — First Transfer Window

So I made only two new signings as I felt the squad was large enough however I did lose two very good players, infact I lost both of my first choice centre backs. But I got £9 million for them so I cant complain too much.

Lets have a look at the two new faces :

Julio Martinez

Carlos Gonzalez

So both Mexican and both fitting into my plan of buying young talented players, Martinez is a holding midfield player who was rated 4* by my scout, Gonzalez is a centre forward who brings some pace and hopefully a clinical edge.

Results Opening Stage

So we once again qualified for the playoff stage, we had some very good wins but we did lose a few games to the better sides in Mexico but at least we played really well in the first half of the season.

The Opening Stage Playoff Games

Ha! Finally we have broken our terrible run in the playoffs and we gained a victory to seal the opening stage! We were a bit lucky against Laguna but we finished second in the league allowing us to progress with a draw the same with Atlas.

But against Monterrey we were excellent, we defended so well away from home and should have scored. But we sealed the final with a Gallegos freekick and won the opening stage!

Mexico -The Gold And Confederations Cup

So a break to the Mexican national team as we were involved in the confederations cup. I will just post all the results for you to see :

So we finished third and I was very pleased with that! How we didnt beat Japan I will never know, we created so many chances we could have won five matches, but defensive mistakes combined with happless finishing cost us.

We reacted well to beat England before a real lesson in football by Brazil, in all honesty we didnt play too badly. Spain beat us in the semi-final but we gave them a real game and we actually missed a penalty and had a goal ruled off!

As with me though, we had no luck but we did beat Germany in the third place game and the board were delighted with that!

The Gold Cup

So the gold cup is sort of the European championship or Asian cup etc

As you can see we made light work to get into the final, after a hammering Panama in our opening group we continued to score for fun as we were just too strong. Our final was against Honduras who some how managed to beat the USA in the semi!

Gold Cup Final vs Honduras

As expected we cruised to the win, and should have scored alot more but our captain Romero struck a hat-trick and another trophy was added to my collection. I resigned as I got annoyed with having to manage two sides at once and was hoping that the Chivas manger would be appointed!

But my underhand tactic failed completely as some un-know Mexican took charge, so back to Veracruz it is!

Results Closing Stage

So an excellent closing stage as we finished top of the league, and once again qualified for the playoff’s this time to try and win the closing stage, have no idea why they set the league up like this but playoff’s it is!

The Closing Stage Playoff Games

Well it wouldnt be an official Ana post if I didnt lose at least one playoff game! Both times I beat Tecos 6-1 and 3-1 but some how they managed to beat beat 3-1 at home by creating hardly anything but nothing I can do about it now!

Final Player Ratings Of The Season

My best player was my central defender Aitchedji who performed really considering he is more a defensive midfield player, Evandro was excellent on my wing and Gonzales was a little star scoring 23 goals is 33 games.

All in all a really good season, we won the opening stage which I believe means we have qualified for the Copa Libertadores (South American champions league) and hopefully we can qualify for the North American champions league also.

So we have two chances I guess to win two champions leagues that I need in my challenge, am not sure of our chances! But I guess we will see how we can perform when we get there.

Once again thanks for reading a very long post and hopefully I can get one of the two champions league titles that I need!!

Screenshot Requests

Sibo asked me last time to post a picture of Lionel Messi so here he is :

I dont have the Spanish league loaded so his playing stats are no where near as good as they should be and he also never won any personal awards either! Any other request let me know but bare in mind that I am very far into the future so they may have retired and be gone forever!

Thanks for reading and my Coruxo game is broke, so I will just continue posting/playing this game until the next game comes out.

So until then bye bye! :)

Well done on getting that promotion from the first division plus a good win in the gold cup!
Also can I see a picture of how Steven Gerrard is doing I just want to know if he’s still going in your game and how good he is :)

      Thank you!

Just to clarify this is the top division we are in now, sort of like la liga or the premier league but they have these wierd playoff games in order to win the title.

Was happy to win the gold cup and was very happy to finish third in the confederations cup also, behind Spain and Brazil isnt a bad place to be!

Just checked and Steven Gerrard is not in my game i’m afraid.

Very good season Ana, and I assume you are promoted now? It really is a confusing system in Mexico! Anyway, you did very well, and finally won a play off :)
I was just wondering how many games have you managed now? I’m guessing it must be near 1000! And what’s your win percentage?
    Cheers :)

      Thanks!

Hard to explain and very confusing! But this is the top division we are in now that playoff win was for winning the opening stage so we now qualify for the north+south american champions leagues.

Cool that we get to play in both! Well I have played a few more seasons but I was around 900 and something games and win percentage was around 62-67% ish!

        13 мая, 2011 at 16:25

Ah, so you won the Mexican league then? That’s a very good win percentage and 900 games in unbelievable!

          13 мая, 2011 at 19:15

Yeah, I won the opening stage which means I can play in both American champions league!

          And thanks! :)

Well done Ana, you nailed those playoffs this time! (or at least one of the two, still good enough!). I think that you have a good chance of winning the North American Champions League, the American and Canadian teams shouldn’t be too good, but the Copa Libertadores will be a much tougher challenge. Good luck!

    • Ana Garcia

      12 мая, 2011 at 22:11

      Thanks Johnny!

Yeah, finally! I agree with you on my game Mexican sides have dominated the North American CL and I dont have the USA selected so they shouldnt be as good as we are.

The Copa Libertadores is very tough, infact I dont think a Mexican side has ever won or even got to the final but I guess there is a first time for everything!!

      :)

That is true, there were two Mexican sides that made it to the final (Cruz Azul and Guadalajara) but both lost.

    Hey Ana
Finally you won a playoff! I feel very happy for you. How come you won against Tigres? You drew 0-0 both times and finished in the same position.

    • Ana Garcia

      12 мая, 2011 at 22:16

      Hey :)

      Thank you!

Its very confusing but alongside the groups I posted there is also a league table which I dont post as I didnt think it was that relevant.

However we finished second in the league (ignore the group for now) and away goals dont count, if a game is a draw after two legs it goes on league position we finished higher than Tigres so as such we went into the next round.

      Hope that explains it! :)

    Hey Ana,

Well done in winning a playoff! I am sure that you will be able to win the Champion’s League now, Mexican teams, as you said, are very strong in the NACL.

Also, thanks for posting Messi’s coaching stats, he looks like a great technical coach! Did he ever coach at Barca or was River Plate his first job?

Well done, hopefully you can move on two the big Champion’s Leagues ASAP! :D

    • Ana Garcia

      12 мая, 2011 at 22:21

      Hi Sibo!

Thanks, I am fairly confident in the NACL as long as I can avoid the other Mexican sides I feel we have a good chance of winning it. We might even win the copa libertadores and kill two birds with one stone!

No problem, his stats are not too bad. He never coached at Barca, River was his first job after his playing career ended!

I agree I want to get out of Mexico ASAP!! :)

Happy days, added more silverware to your CV.

Brilliant though Ana, finally won one of those pesky playoffs which means the ‘typical Ana’ of old is no longer :)!

Flew through with Mexico aswell, that was an awesome set of results you managed to wrack up. Any thoughts on your next international career? Would love to see you in Europe!

    Good luck next season :)

      Thanks Jake!

Yeah, I hope that playoff win is the start of a golden spell of playoff wins!! :)

I enjoyed Mexico to an extent but I think next time I will just manage a national team when I dont have a club job.

I got offered to manage Belgium who were ranked 11th in the world but I turned them down but Spain is my dream job!!

Yey, you won a play-off and well deserved too. A shame to lose second time around but like you mentioned, it wouldn’t be an Ana post if that were not the case ;)

You did an excellent job with Mexico in my opinion, winning a trophy and performing well in another, its always tough when doing club and country though. I too prefer concentrating on one thing at a time. Good luck for the up and coming season, hopefully we’ll see some big wins and better fortunes in the play-offs.

      12 мая, 2011 at 22:28

      Thanks Darren!

I am not that lucky to win two playoff games in the same post!! :)

I enjoyed Mexico but your point is right, I also like to concentrate on one team at a time so I dont think I will double up again. Its also quite time consuming to do both and at times a bit annoying.

    12 мая, 2011 at 23:49

Yay! You finally won playoffs! You should win one Champions League, and we all know which one that is ;)

Good luck, you were brilliant in the league this season and it can only get better :)

    • Ana Garcia

      13 мая, 2011 at 19:16

      Thanks Alex!

I really need that NACL so I can get out of Mexico! I really havent enjoyed this leg of my journey so far!

At least you won one playoff Ana, better than nothing, nice win in the Gold Cup (North American Cup equivalent i think)

How do you get entry into the copa Libertadores by the way?

Oh yeah, and good luck in the playoffs next season :D

    • Ana Garcia

      13 мая, 2011 at 19:19

      Thanks!

Was pleased with the gold cup am still not sure who can play in it but its another trophy so am happy!

In all honesty I have no idea! I guess winning the opening stage has allowed me to qualify, but am so confused!

      I dont like Mexico. :(

    Hi Ana!

This actually was a great season! It’s a good thing that you managed to secure a place in both «Champions Leagues», I firmly believe that you are going to win at least one of them.

«Well it wouldnt be an official Ana post if I didnt lose at least one playoff game!» This sentence made laugh really hard!

Too bad that you are not able to continue your Coruxo story, I was a big fan of your small Spanish team and I always thought that yoy would do miracles with them, even create a bigger legacy than you last year’s story with Real Union.

Best wishes for the rest of your challenge!

    • Ana Garcia

      13 мая, 2011 at 19:23

      Hello! :)

Yeah, its cool we get to enter both but my major aim is the NACL then I can leave Mexico and that will make me happy!

Am glad you enjoyed it! I try my best to keep it entertaining so thank you.

Agreed, I am a bit annoyed also that I lost my Coruxo game. I still dont know what happened but from now on I will make two saves just incase.

Thanks for luck! and I hope you keep reading. :)

    Hi Ana
I’m sorry to hear tht your Coruxo game is no more as I really enjoy your Spanish league stories.I guess you wouldn’t consider starting again with a new team?
Anyway well done in capturing the Gold Cup with Mexico….I noticed Canada was nowhere to be seen as usual :) Those pesky play offs got you again but at least you won the Opening Stage!!

    • Ana Garcia

      15 мая, 2011 at 17:22

      Thanks Kevin,

I was enjoying writing it also, so am annoyed as I dont know why it happened. I now make two seperate saves just incase.

At the moment I dont have a lot of time to play two saves, so will try my best to finish this challenge and then if I have time I could start another story.

Gold cup was nice, easy to win but nice! :)
