Hello everyone and welcome back to my Wrexham Football Manager story. We were anxious to get the season underway and prove to the board and the fans that promotion was indeed a real possibility.
Our opening game of the season was a trip to Crawley and it took a while for things to get going but as soon as Shane Williams found his confidence then things started to happen. A deftly touch to right inside forward Kevin Gall opened the scoring just before half time and a similar pass through to striker Andy Mangan produced a penalty which our lone front man hammered into the back of the net from the spot. New signing Lewis Emanuel who came on for Gall created a fine goal for himself after cutting inside from the right flank seven minutes from time. A good solid result to get us started.
Next up was our first home game of the season with the visit of Grimsby who had just been relegated from the Football League. We got off to a great start with Gall finding Mangan who neatly pushed the ball past the Grimsby keeper to give us the lead inside ten minutes. Mangan himself initiated a breakaway and the resulting cross was met spectacularly by the head of Lewis Emanuel to make it two –nil though unfortunately Emanuel was injured in the process. Grimsby went down to ten men just before the interval but try as we may we couldn’t take advantage of our superiority and had to settle for the two goal victory. Following the game the news was not good as Emanuel would be out for two to three months.
A trip to Gateshead was our following game and things got off to a bad start with the home side taking the lead in under a minute but we didn’t drop our heads and fought back to make it 1-1 after Williams through ball found Mangan and off he sprinted before finishing coolly into the corner of the net. Following the equalizer we couldn’t make any further progress and so had to settle for an away point.
The next three games were about as exciting as watching paint dry so I won’t bore you with the details. Below then is the complete results.
The positives out of these results are that we remain unbeaten, my 38 year old Jamaican defender Frank Sinclair finally headed into the net and my final signing of the summer Ismael Fofana scored on his debut though he really should have made it two goals!

Decent start there! Really hoping you prove your board wrong and get at least a play off place!

Hi Kevin, pretty good start there, well done. The future looks promising, hopefully you can climb futher up the table in the coming months. Good luck!

Cheers Laxeyman
Yeah, it’s not bad but were wasting a lot of chances though.

Hello Kevin,
solid start to the new season. I wouldn’t worry about the amount of goals your side have scored as once there used to the tactic and as they grow in confidence I’m sure they’ll start scoring some more goals for you. The best of luck!

That’s a very good start, staying unbeaten through the first month is always difficult. I can’t see anything but better results to come, good luck!

Hi Johnny
Yes, I was pleased to get through the first month like that. By the way my board is not in favour of a parent club or any loan signings whatsoever!

Hey Kevin, great start for your boys there, maybe a few too many draws but you’ll change them to wins soon. When the squad get used to your tactic the form will improve even more. Goodluck mate.

Thanks Darren
We’re missing a lot of easy chances otherwise I feel we would have been top of the table.

Hey Kevin,
Great start. You’re players should gel soon, and you’ll win those draws

Very good start Kevin the first month is always tricky I find so to be unbeaten is nice.
Three home games coming up should build up so good momentum provided you win them and I have feeling you will be up at the right end of the table all season!
Good luck!

Hi Ana
Thanks for commenting so late in the evening. Long day at work or playing FM :) I hope to take advantage of those home games, the important one being against Rushden.

Hi Kevin,
That’s a good start by the team especially the win against Grimsby. That show you are capable to challenge at the top. I have Ismael Fonfana in my team too. He is a genius in my team but i think he looks good for Blue Square Premier too. Good luck for the coming games.

Hello Lye
When I saw Fonfana on your blog I had to go for him as he looks pretty decent.

Great start Kevin, My players are pretty wasteful too, my top striker has only just started to hit form. Just keep shuffling round your squad till they start.

Thanks Jonny
I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one with this problem. My players can miss an empty net from inside the six yard box!
