Wrexham: September 2010

Hello friends and welcome back to my Wrexham story which isn’t going along as quickly as I would have hoped due to work commitments but nonetheless here is my current update.

The first match of a new month saw us playing away to Forest Green Rovers. Captain Dean Keats snatched the only goal of the game that was heading for another bore draw. Three points yes, inspiring no.

Next up was the first of a three game home series starting with Southport and I decided to shake things up a bit especially with the attack. Twenty year old Mathias Pogba spearheaded the front supported by 19 year old Faroe Islander Adrian Cieslewicz on the right and Dane Thomas Lyskov on the left. The result all three of them found the back of the net in a stunning 4-0 victory and by far was the best performance of the season. Lyskov speed completely left the Southport defence for dead whilst Cieslewicz found himself in the right place at the right time on two occasions.

The following game was our top of the table clash with high flying and free scoring Rushden and Diamonds. As aniticipated they gave us a difficult game twice gaining the lead but we fought back to level the score through Knight-Percival and Fonana. We could and should have taken all three points but kept missing realtively easy chances from inside the 18 yard area.

The final game of this three at home series saw us play Eastbourne and we totally dominated proceedings and really should have scored more than we did. Fofana got us off to a great start latching on to a Brian Gilmour through ball which he hit first time under the diving body of the Eastbourne keeper. The visitors squared things up early in the second half when LB Darren Lough slipped along space for a placed cross a nd a header home. Central midfielder Neil Ashton who has spent the early part of the season injured spared our blushes by pouncing on a clearence from a corner and striking into the roof of the net. During the course of the game both strikers Fonana and Mangan picked up long term injuries and will be out for a while.

We finished off the month with a trip to Kidderminster and my young Fench striker Mathias Pogba didn’t hang about making his mark as he headed in from a Knight-Percival cross early on the game. Knight-Percical provided the assist to opposite wingman Kevin Gall who placed home  his shot after 24 minutes ot give us a comfortable 2-0 lead. We very much took our foot of the gas after the second goal as the players appeared to be content with what they already achieved which I was a bit annoyed about as goal difference could be crucial come May.

Results Summary

League Table

So we are top of the table after two months but not by much as you can see. My local team Bath City are heading in the wrong direction though!

Injury Table

Fixtures

We start next month off with a dificult game away to AFC Wimbledon but hopefully we can sustain this unbeaten run a little longer.

Thanks for reading.

Hey Kevin, that was an excellent month. We all seem to be settling into the new FM with ease I think. I agree with Arjuna…your victory over Southport was especially pleasing. Thankfully I have not been stricken with such bad injuries as you. Usually just a week or a month at the most. Hopefully you’ll continue the great form though. Goodluck mate.

      Hi Darren
The injuries are a bit of a set back but hopefully Pogba can perform. He blows hot and cold. I’m using a tweaked version of your OM tactic and it seems to be working nicely.

      Hi Lye
Staying in top spot would be really nice but I am worried by those injuries.

Great run, the defense looks rock-solid. Those injuries can be difficult to deal with but hopefully there won’t be any more of those this season. Good luck!

      Ha! Ha!
Unlike FM2010 my defence seems to be handling attacks quite nicely for the most part.
      Thanks for adding the video

    Hi Kevin,
Aside from the Rushden and Diamonds game, that was a very good month. Rushden are a decent team so a point was a good result. Your side should tremendous character as they came from behind twice. Injuries have also hindered the progress of my Bilbao team. All my essential players have all been injured :-( Good luck.
