Welcome to Wales: My New FM 2011 Story

Hello Friends

Greetings  from Canada and welcome to my FM 2011 story featuring Wrexham FC of the Blue Square Premier League where hopefully I’ll discover a new Ryan Giggs or Gareth Bale along the way.

Before I go on I’d like to thank all of you for your support over the last couple of months as I dealt with a family illness back in the UK. The situation is still continuing but there have been some positive signs recently.

Back to the game then. I decided on Wrexham as it seemed a little different and due to my skill level I didn’t really want to go to the absolute bottom to begin with. Here’s a look at the Team Selection screen

For this post I’ll begin with the preliminaries and first off is the database which obviously includes all English Leagues down to the BSP as well as Ireland as a view only

Here’s a brief look at Wrexhams history and although they have a good pedigree  my objective will be to get them to the Premier League and to win at least one of the major trophies in due course

Wrexham play their home game at the Racecourse Ground with a capacity of 15,550 people so it will be interesting to see the attendance once the season starts. Thye have good training facilities and an adequate youth set up.

Brian Carey my Assistant Manager provided this team report which on first appearance seems to show a decent amount of players but I’m keen to explore this report further as well as my A.M’s attributes!

The Board of Directors were quite happy with a respectable league position but I wanted to prove I was ambitious and bravely told them that we would aim for promotion this season

Well that’s it for this post which was essentially just to lay the foundations for the story and to lay claim to a team as there’s a lot of activity already around the FM scene.

Thanks for reading.

It seems like you have a solid foundation to build upon there, great stadium at this level and good facilities overall. The wage budget isn’t very high but you could still bring in a few good players. By the way, I found a promising young Welsh midfielder in my game, Shane Williams is his name, released by Birmingham. My assistant believes that he could be a good League Two midfielder in the future, an appealing prospect. Good luck!

      Hi Johnny
I think Wrexham should be a stronger team in real life than they actually are. I hope to attract a few bargains for sure, even some decent loans and thanks for the tip. I’ll be looking up our friend Ryan Carolan as well :)

Good luck Kevin am glad things are looking up for you.

Interesting choice seems like a very old club being founded in 1872 but as Johnny said a really solid place to get going.

Should be interesting to follow and am already leaning as I didnt know Welsh teams were allowed in the English leagues! Dont Wales have a league of their own?

And are there any Scottish or Irish teams allowed? Sorry, my knowledge of the lower English leagues are really bad!!

But the best of luck and I look forward to reading. :)

Yes there are several Welsh teams including Swansea, Cardiff and Newport in the English set up. Wales has there own league as well. There are not any Irish or Scottish teams in the lower leagues as I guess they wanted to remain independent. I’m not sure of the history behind the Welsh inclusion but good question!

Celtic and Rangers (2 best teams in Scotland) applied to be in the premier league :)

That’s a pretty good first team you have got there! Very surprised that board only thought they could achieve respectable position with them!

      Hi David
Yes it does look like a pretty good squad but I’m yet to go more in depth. The board surprised me too!

    Hi Kevin,

Wrexham have a good foundation of a club going big. They have a good stadium and decent youth facilities. What they are lacking is a good manager. Here you come, i am sure they will be a elite club soon.

    Hi Kevin,

Good luck with Wrexham, they have some decent facilities for a low league team and with some decent signings you should achieve your objective of promotion
