Varbergs BOIS — Destroying a Dynasty

Tjena!

I’m back with another Varbergs BOIS post after the completing the ultimate goal for the save in thrilling style! You may be thinking «Jake, what’s the deal with the title of the post..?». Well it will all be clear once you read on I’m sure, but for now I’ll just be concentrating on all things BOIS and giving you the run through on what’s happened over the last two years.

After winning the ultimate prize in club football, we were expected to completely dominate every aspect of the world stage and frankly it wasn’t something that I was used to. Having won the only Champions League of my FM career the pressure was on me to bring another one back home to Sweden, or at least compete for one I guess? Domestically, it was always going to be a full gone conclusion that I would win the league and cup double due to the weak premier league that Sweden has.

Season 18 (2027)
Now as you all know, my posts from this year were only to do with the European campaign. This was partly down to the same old boring «yes Jake we get it, you won the league for the XX successive year and frankly we are getting less and less interested» as well as me getting wrapped up in all things Champions League. However when the Champions League was won, it was only May meaning that we still had half a season to complete in which to win the League and Cup double! Excited? Nope neither was I because we coasted it. Again..

Not perfect as we drew against Elfsborg but it was all coming a little too easy for me and the BOIS as the others couldn’t even put up a challenge. I really wasn’t complaining though as it was another trophy.

Along with the cup, which again we managed to win in a 4-0 win against IK Sirius to add another peice of silverware to the collection. What’s that I here you cry? You want more?! Well, alright then just for you..

Yep, that’s right we won the European Super Cup against none other than Manchester United. Literally had to be the sweetest victory for me, just because of the opponents :D

Season 19 (2028)
So this is really where it started to hot up as we were to start another Champions League campaign. We had just qualified in second place after a group that consisted of Shakhtar, Sturm Gratz and eventual winners AC Milan. This second spot pitted us up against last years semi finalists Lyon who I managed to just about beat as I flew into a final. Did we manage it again?

First Leg

Second Leg

Oh, uhh? So we fell at the first hurdle in our attempt to retain the Champions League title proving that a little bit of luck goes a long way in the world of knockout round football. We did put up a good fight, but unfortunately the scrappy French team sealed it after beating us 1-0 at our fortress. Not exactly the most joyous of occasions but we could go and try and win it next year I suppose..

There was time for a little bit of silverware before the season started though as we entered the Club World championship. After a 6-0 semi-final thrashing of South Korean side Seongnam we encountered Copa Libertadores winners Internacional..

Smashed it. Champions of the world! :D. Doesn’t really apply now as we crashed out of the Champions League, but it is the current title that matters!

Onto league matters and I guess that you don’t need a picture to prove what happened, but I’ll stick one in for good measure..

Another league win! This time, it wasn’t exactly plain sailing and we did have a dip in form (mostly due to injuries and morale after the Champions League exit) to end up with a loss and five draws.

League and Cup double?

You bet your arse we did.. 4-0 win against Degefors.

Season 20 (2029) [Current]
Ok, so not exactly as planned last year. We failed to get past the first hurdle which was very unfortunate and particularly disappointing for me as I was hoping to at least challenge for the trophy again. Still, another year brought another slice of expectation that we had to meet and with a group that consisted of Besiktas, Sporting and Gent, I was more than confident that we would go through as group winners. Surely enough..

We did it. The only loss coming against Sporting as we set got set up with a tie against Liverpool!

Managing to pass Liverpool in the first round (Hurayy!) with a 1-0 aggregate win, we got OM in the quarter finals. Luckily our lads were on form for the home match comfortably winning 3-0 with Lecomte on song. The away match proved to be much tougher than I thought it would be, but we managed to grab a vital away goal which would see us go through 4-3 and set up a semi final against Arsenal! Would the BOIS be able to get through to the final?

First Leg

Second Leg

Bugger. Tried as we might, we couldn’t hold on after the fortunate 2-1 win at the Emirates and we crashed out! It was a little consolation to know that they were beaten by Man City in the final but again it proved that luck wasn’t on my side this year and again we were one step short of retaining that Champions League title.

Onto league matters then, and it was pretty much a full gone conclusion..

Three draws, three losses and we coasted to the title with a gap of 18 points.

League and Cup double?

Haha, no. My reserves weren’t as strong as I thought they were and unfortunately we crashed out of the competition with a 5-1 semi final defeat to IK Sirius. Bummer.

I did however manage to take over a national side! After a very brief stint (literally about a month..) with Nigeria, France came calling. As a top 10 ranked side in the world, they have brilliant footballers including the all familiar Adam Lecomte who I try and play as much as I can in front of the other three strikers who are frankly a little better. Still, you have to stick by your own players right?!

Anyway, choosing Lecomte over the other three prolific strikers did little to deter qualification for the upcoming world cup so I’ll be looking forward to that :).

So, you’re up to speed on the save but just in-case you missed a few trophies along the way, here is a list of the honours page:

After a 20 year reign at the club, we had managed an unholy amount of trophies ranging from the Swedish Fourth Division all the way up to the Champions League. Honestly, I thought it would take me till 2050 to at least challenge for it but my BOIS have pulled through on the most unlikely of occasions to pretty much half my estimate and even though we haven’t gone on to retaining the title, I am more than happy with what the club has achieved. They are the pinnacle of Swedish football. Here are my top 3 players..

Adam Lecomte

I can’t mention Varberg without his name, and its not hard to see why. Still in the prime of his career, he has the ability to go a long way. Honestly should have probably cashed in on him now but I can’t seem to let him go as he literally dragged the team through both European and Domestic trophies single-handedly! Here are his stats to prove his worth..

Best player I have ever had at Varberg..

Mario Tejera

Well, until this guy came along anyway. Hopefully you remember Mario, bringing him in for £2.4M as an 18 year old Spanish prodogy? Look at him now! At 22, he is literally the best left-back in the world as his stats are out of this world. Still has bags of talent in those boots as well and can seriously lead us to glory in the coming seasons.

Denis Belyakov

The Ukrainian makes up the other part of my strike force, and what a player he has grown into! 20 finishing and 17 composure at the tender age of 21?! Well, you can see why he is a club icon.

Honestly though, all the players I have brought in over the years are playing out of their skin and it’s great to see!

Here is my predicament though. I’m not a ‘Let’s take over Barca/Madrid and see how many trophies I can win’ kind of player, I love taking unknown teams to the top and being the underdog. It just gets too easy and I feel like I am going through the motions a little. Even though my heart lies in Varberg, I have completed what I wanted to achieve in the save and as a result I’m just not motivated enough to go about winning more trophies. It will come as no surprise to see what happened next..

I’ve enjoyed this story and its a little sad to see you leave BOIS but I’m sure you’ll soon surpass them with Malmo and create another great side, good luck :)

You did brilliantly with Varbergs Jake, shame you couldn’t retain your CL crown, and a bit sad to see you leave them, but I understand that winning the Swedish Premier League year after year is a little dull. Malmo will be an interesting challenge, and as ever, good luck!

Well what can I say, it will be sad to see you leave Varbergs because your achievements there were by far the best I’ve ever seen…but I like your thinking. What challenge could be tougher than beating yourself! :) Obviously I don’t mean literally but in essence thats what you need to do.

Malmo is a bit of a sore point with me at the moment considering they knocked Rangers out of CL last night!

Thanks Baz! I mean I will always try and poach the best players and if I can do that from Varberg (especially the youngsters) it would be brilliant. Although, I can’t see it happening as the fee’s will be massive and I don’t exactly have the biggest of budgets :(

Now that’s a challenge! I really like the idea Jake, it will be tough to beat the team that you have created but I know that you can do it!

    Wow, didn’t see that coming!

Shame not to see another CL with Varbergs, but this is going to be a great challenge. Malmo are quite a good team, although that may be different in your game…anyway, good luck! :D
