Hello folks, just a quick heads up for all those using Steam: they had some problems with hackers and my advice is to change your passwords right away to avoid any mishaps. Here’s their official statement:
Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users,
Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.
We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.
We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.
While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.
We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.
We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.
I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
I don’t think there’s much to worry about at the moment but you should still change your password, just to be safe. Take care!

And did you know that if you play offline, your achievements on steam are not recognized? That sucks so much.

I don’t have a credit card on steam and I’m not on the forum. Should I still change my password for steam or do you think it’ll be ok?

I’m in the same situation (no forum account and no credit card data on Steam) but I still changed my password just to be on the safe side.

Yet another company that is happy to take money but not prepared to invest in adequate security to protect data

Wonder how long before a press release confirms the loss of credit card information. Where I used to work Data Protection was a priority and if we failed we were hit with massive fines. I think some companies in other industries need to be made an example of and hit hard in the wallet.

Now i am unable to play the game because Steam keep validating the files and it’s server is too busy right now. Wonder anyone has the same problem? Have been trying since last night and this morning is still the same. I am becoming frustrated now.

I played it last night with no problem at all. You can try to verify the game files with steam and if it still doesn’t work you could try to re-install Steam and then re-download the game.

As long as you can log into your account just re-install the game ti will be a lot less frustrating in the long run.
I changed my password Friday night then my game wouldn’t load Saturday morning..password incorrect. Thirty frustrating minutes later and the game is finally loaded.

I did change my password. The problem now is it keep validating files and the message «server busy» keeps pop out. I tried to uninstall and re-download but it can’t be uninstalled. Can’t figure out what’s wrong!!

No, it’s not the same thing but I still recommend changing the password just to be safe.
