Stade Malherbe Caen: February — March 2013

Welcome back boys and Ana! It’s been about two weeks now and I’m eager to continue my Caen story. I’ve had some trouble posting pictures on the site. It just won’t finish ‘crunching’ the pictures, but it seems to be working fine now.

Here’s the league standing at the end of february.. (I couldn’t find the one covering the end of March.)

Here’s the games for these two months:

A good month despite 2 losses and 2 draws in the league. I qualified against Juve who took a lot of my attention from the other games, I also progress twice in the French cup against two good oppositions in Marseille and Bordeaux.

Gignac is producing more goals which is very pleasing. He always puts in a massive effort on the pitch and I’m just happy that he gets to bag a few goals while working that hard for the team. It is well deserved.

I wasn’t gonna go into detail about the games except for the Juventus match.

Looking at their starting line-up we’re only impressed with their defensive line. Criscito, Chiellini, Buffon and even Diego Renan in midfield. Loic Remy is a quicksilver striker with not much else going for him and Bernetta seems to be performing much better that his stats allow him. I always have a tough time facing him.

The game kicked off and the tempo wasn’t great. Not really unexpected as the game would change drastically after the first goal. Juventus got first blood in the 23rd minute when Barnetta broke through our defense, his shot was saved by Diego Alves but Remy pounced on the rebound to score. After this goal we picked up pace and started to play much better ut the first half ended 0-1. It would take about 20 minutes into the second half before we got level. Camacho picked up the ball some way outside their box and played a beautiful straight pass between the two central defenders for an onrunning Yatabaré who had just cut inside the defensive back-four. He made no mistakes from close range and 1-1 was a fact. Then just minutes before full-time Kryvtsov rose higher than everyone else during a corner and headed home the winner for Caen!

The second leg would still be difficult seeing as they got an away goal.

But as you could see in the matches picture i posted we could hang on to a 0-0 draw and thereby go through to the next round. Great success! as Borat would say.. and a wonderful revenge for letting them knock us out last year.

The Quarter final would see us facing our old group opponents from last year — FC Bayern!

That’s it for now. I won’t take 2 weeks to finish the next post I promise.

Cheers,

Majk

Well done Majk, knocking out Juventus is a great achievement. Btw, if you have problems with uploading the pictures again you can try the «browser uploader» instead of the «flash uploader», that endless «crunching» happens to me sometimes too.
