Southampton FM 2011 Story

Hello!!!

Welcome to my first post on footballmanagerstory.com, I’m very excited to join here and be able to share my story on such a very well run site. I’d like to thank Johnny for giving me the opportunity to become part of the community here. Anyway, this isn’t all about me. This is a joint blog between myself and my good friend Rob. He’s almost as excited about this as me. :)

Anyway, our blog is going to be about our quest to get Southampton back into the premier league and into Europe. We’re both playing it completely like a normal game, and comparing how successful we are, we’ll post every 3 game months, so that’s 4 times per season, we aim to go for about 20 seasons but we’ll see how it goes.

I’ve been playing Football Manager since it began and am a complete and utter football nutter. Football tactics have always been interesting me, and when I first played George Grahams player manager 1998/99 (Old school I know) I was hooked. I am excited about my first opportunity to write my story down. I’m only 18, but my footballing knowledge and experience is far greater than most people my age. :). I’m a Manchester United fan but I have a soft spot for Millwall (Family team) and Bognor Regis Town FC (Home town team) as well as FC United of Manchester. Anyway, Over to Rob.

I like Jonny have been playing Football Manager from the start, I’ve always liked the idea of managing and it interests me a lot more than games such as FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer. I do think that I have quite a high level of knowledge when it comes to football and am very interested in the tactical side of the game. I’m 20 years old so think that over the years my knowledge has built up and being a Stoke City supporter I’ve seen all different levels of management, right down from League 2 up to the Premier League.

So that’s us. We’ve started the game with a small database with the top two leagues from each of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Holland, Portugal and Scotland and all leagues from England.

Right, we’re off to get back on it. We shall post at the end of September, which will probably be today or Sunday. :)

    Hey Jonny and Rob,
It’s interesting to see a joint effort. Southampton still have some good players so you should have a relatively solid base on which to build.

I started a game with Southampton on the FM11 demo (I haven’t YET got the full game) and my advice would be to sign Guillermo Franco and Olivier Kapo. They both start as free agents, and need to be offered a hell of a contract to sign with Soto, and both fairly old, so will only be useful for a couple of years, but they were both unbelievable for me, not particularly injury prone for older guys, and between them scored about 40-50 goals in the first 6 months.
