Premier League Matchday 26: The Gap Extended… again!

So week 26 in this seasons Premier League was an interesting one. Manchester City now find themselves 12 points a drift from neighbours Manchester United, city lost 3-1 at Southampton whilst United beat Everton 2-0. Also Gareth Bale yet again proved how good he can be inspiring a Spurs win over Newcastle and Aston Villa also returned to winning ways.

Aston Villa Vs West Ham

A Christian Benteke penalty mid way through the second half began what turned out to be Villa’s first win for a while, N’Zogbia then struck a brilliant free kick to make the lead 2-0 before late on a Ashley Westwood own goal ensured that the Villa faithful were in for a nervy finish however they held on in the end.

Chelsea Vs Wigan

Easily enough for Chelsea, Ramires got them started before Hazard doubled the lead. Shaun Maloney then scored which gave a little scare to the Chelsea fans before Frank Lampard and Marko Marin made sure of the victory, it will be interesting to see if Roberto Martinez can work his magic again and keep Wigan up.

Liverpool Vs West Brom

Liverpool really did dominate this game and missed chance after chance but all the action happened in the last 20 minutes with Steven Gerrad missing a penalty and then West Brom who had 1 shot on target when on to win it with goals late on from Gareth McAuley and on loan striker Romelu Lukaku.

Manchester United Vs Everton

Scrapping plans to rest several key players ahead of the Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday United knew that they could take City’s loss to their gain, heading straight out and with goals from Ryan Giggs who has now scored in all 23 seasons and then Robin Van Persie ensured the points for United.

Norwich Vs Fulham

Nothing to say here, an absolute bore of a 0-0.

Southampton Vs Manchester City

It really now looks like the title race is over, city lost after a poor display at the back and from their goalkeeper, things didn’t start well as Jason Puncehon put the saints ahead and this was followed by a Joe Hart mistake as Steven Davies scored before Edin Dzeko continued his good form by putting City back into this however then Gareth Barry put the ball into his own yet to give the Saints a great win and the first for the new manager, who’s name I can’t spell ;)

Sunderland Vs Arsenal

Not much went on here, Arsenal controlled much of the game and went away with all 3 points thanks to a Santi Cazorla goal.

Swansea Vs Stoke

After the January signings you would have had expected QPR to be putting up more of a fight, some of the peformances suggested that they were but this certainly didn’t. Michu did put Swansea ahead before Angel Rangel doubled the lead. In the second half Bobby Zamora put QPR back in the game before Pablo Hernandez and another Michu goal put the game to bed.

Tottenham Vs Newcastle

Gareth Bale, who else? His free kick put them in front after 6 minutes before new singing Yoan Gouffran got Newcastle in, however late on Bale broke away and won it for Spurs.

So that is it for another week, it looks like the title race is over, do you agree? Is Gareth Bale starting to prove he is one of the best in the world? Will QPR stay up? Who will go down?

The table also can be seen here and I will see you in a couple of weeks after the FA Cup for another week in the Premier League but until then leave your thoughts and answers to the questions below.

Bale is stealing all the plaudits because at the minute he is one of the best in the world but best in Britain ATM. Also as a Man Utd fan so happy City lost!

Bale truly was the difference against us, he’s just a class above the rest.
