Huddersfield Town 2011 / 12 Pre-Season

Hello my friends and welcome back to a brand new season as Huddersfield begin their campaign in the Coca Cola Championship.

Well let’s get right down to business and take a look at the summer transfer window activity which is very much a favorite part of the game aside from winning of course. After mine and the boards expectations had been agreed upon they came back with a meager £50,000.00 so that’s not much to work with.

To help things out a little the board did sign an agreement with Liverpool who will be our parent club at least for this season and so I quickly raided their reserve team which will be shown in the transfer table below.

On the “Outs” of the balance sheet there were several players that were very much part of the first team at the beginning of last season but over time had drifted out of the running and ended up in the reserve squad. I accepted any kind of full or structured payments just to get them off the books.

Looking at the “Ins” then the first two on the list goalkeeper Mark Ridgers and midfielder Jacob Mellis were actually picked up in the January window but their deals were only finalized in July. At the close of July I haven’t actually spent any money and I think I’ve picked up some useful players either on loan or for free which is great of course!

Here then are the individual profiles of  some of  the new arrivals

Jose Semedo has been at Charlton for the last few seasons and should fit in well as an experienced central defender

Victor Palsson, a young midfielder from Liverpool and adds to my Icelandic flavor of the team, Great work rate and team work attributes.

Javier Garrido whom I picked up from Man City on a free. His only weak spot is his positioning but hopefully he can make up for that in other areas

Here’s Borja, an 18 year old Spaniard on loan from Liverpool. Decent speed and finishing so should make a great poacher.

Daniel Estrada who appears to be able to play almost anywhere on the right flank. Has been at Real Sociedad for most of his career and will probably be switched between the right back and midfield due to his defensive and attacking abilities.

Here’s how the pre-season games went with only one defeat against Aberdeen where I fielded some of the younger players. All in all not a bad set of results

Here’s how the bookies see our chances for the new season

The new season kicks off at home to Blackpool followed by a League Cup clash against Lincoln

So I’m looking forward to the new season and hopefully we can carry on where we left off at Wembley, that is scoring lots of goals.

Thanks for reading.

Hi Kevin, decent sigings there, considering the poor budget from the board, it seems that they lack ambition. Looking forward to seeing hoe you get on this season, good luck.

Hi Kevin, i think some of the signing looks great and useful. You should be able to aim for a mid-table finish even though i am keeping my finger cross for a higher finish.

There will be a few tricky games this season but I think a playoff spot is a decent target. A good start to the league and good luck with injuries will be key. Borja looks like a good championship player at the moment and at that age will learn quickly over the season. Good luck!

    Hello Laxeyman
I agree it seems the board are more interested in their wallets! Thanks for the well wishes.

    > Lye, Thanks.I’m pleased with whom I’ve been able to bring in. A mid-table finish would be great,

    > Sears, thanks for your comments which are welcomed as always

    > Handy, I’m hoping Borja will do the business for me this season. I think he can.

    > Chris, a play off spot would be nice but as you say there’s stiff competition in the Championship

    Hi Johnny
Welcome back. Yep, I’m delighted to get promoted after last season and I’m pleased with my new signings as well. I did however bring in more players than I really wanted, the temptation was just too much :)

    Hi Ana
I thought a few Spanish players would get your attention :)
All joking aside they’re a pretty decent group and with three of them they should be buddies for each other.
