Gladbach — Season 2

April

So quite a busy month for us. We started with a loss at Hoffenheim. I don’t quite understand what happened, but their player, Larson, completely against the grain of play scored a brace and took all the points from Hoffenheim. My strikers didn’t play up to par but we had Obih to put in a header. Things started to look bad and worse after those bums at Hannover held us to a draw. I was very happy with the four wins later. We were in decent control for all those games and they seemed to alternate between games where my strikers are in the zone and games where we rely on the defense to win set-pieces.

May

So Bayern played better than us for their last games and the other results went their way so they won with 2 games to spare. They fielded their scrubs so Reus and Allagui had a field day. I believe in real life my squad would have had to form an honor guard for the Bayern players. The next game against HSV was still important as it was to determine if we got to jump straight into to the Champions League group stage or if we had to go through qualification, i.e. it was to determine who from the Bundesliga would win second place after Bayern. Again Allagui and Reus dropped absolute bombs on HSV.

So here is the final table. Koln won their playoff game and got to stay in the Bundesliga while we get to go straight into the group stages of the Champions League thanks to that six game win steak we had. As you can see, we scored just as many goals as Bayern. If result in February went out way, we would have been in that number one spot over Bayern. Next season the squad will be strengthened but I am sure people realize we are a threat now.

A stunning 12 players broke 7, with Allagui leading the way in scoring and rating. I knew he just needed a little time and he is pretty much that 20 goal a season striker I desired. Reus wasn’t so bad himself! There will be some slight tweaking — I am still a little unhappy with my midfield — so next season should be brighter!

Quite a substantial amount of money we got. I hope this translates to a nice, fat transfer budget of at least £15mil, but we shall see.

Before I leave you all, I thought you might be curious to see how Evian did? They didn’t win any silverware and got knocked out of the group stage of the Champions League, to the Europa League, where they lost in the quarter-finals to Anzhi Machachkala. In the Ligue 1, they came in 4th, behind OL, OM, and PSG, so I think they are doing fine without me at the moment.

That’s all for now. I hope you didn’t mind the length of the post. Please tell me if you like how I wrote this update and whatever else feedback you have would be great! Happy 2012 everyone!

Ah, it’s a shame that you missed out on the title especially after defeating Bayern so convincingly… Maybe your players had a bit too much to eat during the winter break :) Anyway, congrats on a very good season and good luck in the Champions League!

Thanks Johnny. I’m hoping to strike some fear in the hearts of all my European competition. The game against Bayern is a little misleading though, because they won the title before the game started so they fielded their backup players.

Thank you! The German League is pretty competitive so while we might not win the title, as long as we are up there I will be happy.

Well done mate that was a solid season, a little gutting to come close but miss the title however to challenge so quickly is brilliant. Can’t wait for some CL footie next season.

Thanks Darren! I was surprised at how well they are doing and so quickly too. I put it down to my backroom staff whipping my youth players into shape!

Brilliant season mate, so unlucky in the title race but I’m certain you’ll topple Bayern next season. Good luck!

Thanks Sears! It would be great to do that! This season once they got going they just couldn’t stop. Wrapping up the season with 2 games to go is quite impressive.

Thanks Nik! The Bundesliga is quite fun. I like how simple the rules are.

The evenness of the league is also really fun.

You’ve had a great season there. Without a couple of those late lapses in concentration, the title could have gone your way. Anyhow, it proves you’re a real challenger, so with a few additions for next season, you should be put up an even challenge. Good luck with the venture in the Champions League.

Thanks so much! I guess the young players still need to do some maturing and then I’m sure we’ll be unstoppable!

Just bad luck in the end and with a few new signings you should be able to compete again next season, and hopefully finish top!

    Hi Bhargav
    Happy New Year mate!
Great post and I really enjoyed reading it but reall hard luck in how some of those game slipped away from you after such a superb and energetic start to the season. Still you qualified for the Champions League which is $$$ in the bank for sure along with that tidy sum for coming second. Well done Sir!!

Thank you so much Kevin! It looks like Gladbach are going back to the glory days =D

That’s a great season Bhargav, 2nd is a wonderful achivement, and your hammering of Bayern shows that you’re already very close to grabbing that league title :) Hopefully it’ll be next season, good luck!

    • Bhargav

      8 января, 2012 at 01:07

Thanks so much Laxeyman! To be fair to Bayern, they won the league before the game even started so they fielded their reserves. But next season I plan on beating them fair and square.

Man Allagui was terrible in FM2008, he had very low finishing and composure but he looks much better this time around, great job in bringing 19 goals out of him over 29 appearances, despite losing some key players like Dante you made some great purchases and your team has gone far beyond their meager media predictions and finished 2nd

Champions League football next season, will be exciting, good luck

    • Bhargav

      8 января, 2012 at 01:09

Thank you so much! Allagui has been surprisingly phenomenal! I brought him on as a temporary player with only a half season-long contract but he’s earned his spot!

First year in the Champions League, well done! That was unlucky in the league, but it was close. Bayern were doing well, so it will have to wait for next season.

      8 января, 2012 at 01:21

Thanks Vaibhav! I am sure we will give them a run for their money next season.
