    Great podcast as usual lads.
Fierro is a proper To Madeira — signable in the lower leagues and a world beater.
Thanks for answering my question — where’s the video of the suited Darren?
My next question is, can you remember your first exposure to FM and your first save? Mine was a Brighton save on CM93/94 and I remember there were only about 30 foreign players available to sign.

Great life lesson at the end there by the way, about setting goals! Lol

Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the listen. As for the suit video, it was terrible quality but funny at the time, heres the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMx4-PYbV_U

We’ll certainly answer your question in the next episode and maybe try to work out some better life lessons for the next one ;)

Excellent podcast as per usual and regarding the 4-5-1 i personally use the same layout but my AMR/AML can also play striker which means they often create chances both on the wing as well as cutting inside with a target man up top and a flat 3 midfield with 2 box to box and a deep lying play-maker with a slow tempo, i always find the striker is rarely isolated because 2 midfielders are always up in support. Also my right and left back are attacking wing backs so i score a lot from the wings. so in essence are raiding wingers not better than an inside forward?

Thanks Scott. As for the question, well it depends completely on your outlook and other roles, in your scenario wingers would be best, mainly because you have two box to box midfielders who, during the attacking phase will act as AMC’s anyway. But for what myself and Jake were discussing it wouldn’t work. Only one of our MC’s gets forward to support, not two, the full backs are needed to balance between defence and attack so can’t raid forward consistently and the poacher does become isolated as a result of all this, not to mention either side of the striker is where the most room is available and the best space to attack, so naturally and inside forward would be far better for that system, but maybe not for yours.

Good listen again guys, I think the new format has really improved things. I agree with the 4-5-1 being the best formation, covers everywhere in the pitch and IMO those 3 players across the centre can be the key to winning games sometimes.

Thanks for answering my question, very interesting to see your wife is so understanding, hopefully I can find one like that ;)

Great podcast as usual guys, the 4-5-1 has so many variations that it has to be the most flexible formation you can use. Personally I feel Darren’s way works best in game but I like getting a lot of players forward as well as covering the defence sufficiently so I always tend to turn it into a more 4-2-3-1 with wingers and an Attacking Midfielder supplemented by a DLP and a CM.
Fierro never really has worked out for me this year which is disappointing so I would have to say my favourite player this year is one of Goretzka, Pedro Obiang or Fischer.
As for a question for the next podcast i’m sure ill come up with one closer to the time :D

Thanks Ryan, the 4-5-1 is great for variation, its such a generic term for a shape and is probably becoming the default tactic for many I think.

A great podcast as always guys. Agree with Darren’s point about the AI failing, Liverpool and Man U have both spent over 100 mill on my story and have really struggled this season. With the players they have, they shouldn’t be failing.

My formation normally tends to be a variation of a 4-2-3-1, but I can understand Darren’s point about not seeing that as a 4-5-1. It was interesting to listen to you guys discussing the 4-5-1 as I normally struggle to make that formation work. It is funny that Darren mentioned only the poacher works for him, because the poacher never works for me! Guess different tactics must help the poacher.

Thanks for discussing my question guys. I get to use Ward-Prowse a lot in my Southampton story and the best thing about him is that you can develop him into any type of player. Because his attributes are so well rounded, he can become a playmaker, or a ball winner, e.t.c. I wouldn’t really count WIlshere just because he is already so good, but I suppose he is young enough ;)

Thanks Edd, must admit the AI is something I feel strongly about.

Everyone’s different with tactics, that is why there are so few genuinely great guides in that area, because there is no real right or wrong answer, all you could do is try and teach someone FM common sense but that’s such a broad subject. I think the players you prefer to buy will always dictate your tactics also, I have never seen much use from target men, so I tend to struggle making direct tactics for instance.

Quality podcast again guys! Darren, my wife is as tolerant as yours with FM! Although when she has spoken to me and I dont answer because I am busy sorting out a tactic mid game that the only time she is annoyed!! I do miss my 12 hour plus sessions though, my wife works as a nurse and when she does 13 hour shifts I used to get up at same time and have an FM day. Harder now though we have a child and can only play in evenings. Makes me work hard and enjoy each save though
Agree with 4-5-1. I do find that it depends on the front man though, I find advanced forward works well, as they become focal point of the attack (or target man — in one of my save Llorente was employed for LFC and AMC and AML/R fed off him). Poacher I find doesn’t work — then perhaps its my tactics.
Look forward to the next podcast, new format is great by the way!!
    :-)

Thanks Simon, glad you liked the Podcast. Seems we have found two of very few, I do on the odd occasion have the same issue as yourself…where I zone out and everything around me becomes background noise, but the wife understands that a little better after I explained I’m not ignoring her on purpose, just concentrating :)
