This is still of course an ongoing feature for the community and all the FMS Podcast’s will be available in the tab near the top of this site, through I-Tunes and in each episode post, but we’ll go into more detail in a minute. Let me start by introducing episode two and apologize for the poor audio quality during Jake’s bits… unfortunately we are having issues with Jake’s mic but we’ll have it all sorted for episode 3.
Hosts: Darren Smith and Jake Lenahan.
Duration: 1 hour
Content: An update from Darren’s Scarborough story revealing all the juicy gossip on some big news and a massive change to the story, information on Jake’s new network story with Monzz, interesting views on the Euro Championships, potential summer transfers, latest manager movement, discussion on England’s chances against France, a quiz and answers to your questions from episode one.
Want to listen to episode two of the FMS Podcast? Its simple, just click the play button below!
If you don’t have time to listen right now and would rather listen through your iPod on the way to work or school, why not subscribe to our RSS feed, its simple and takes seconds…all you need is iTunes and to click this link here. That will direct you to our iTunes page where you can find all the episodes and subscribe through iTunes on your computer. Please note Episode 2 has just been uploaded so iTunes will need a little time to get everything updated, therefore the download may not be available straight away.
Alternatively just go to iTunes on your iPhone/iPod/iPad then find the podcast section and search for Football Manager Story Podcast, the download will be available there.
As always we are happy to hear your thoughts, so if you have a specific question you’d like answering in the next Podcast, just leave a comment below. I meant scouting network as in scouts in your club. not the famous Scouting Network here at the site <3
Other than that, I feel this podcast was of another quality to the first one. Great job, again, very organised but I think it was more to the point. And also great entertainment with your quizz battle! Love to hear you enjoying this as much as we do!

Also, if you have time for this, maybe you could talk about one or two stories written here on the site or preferrably at the forum. I personally didn’t look at the forum stories until you mentioned Jake’s Fortuna Sittard adventure! As I imagine it, you could mention what the story’s about, when it started (as some don’t start at the beginnign of the game in 2011), how long it has progressed («where are they now» sort of thing) and comment on what you like about it.. There are some fantastic stories there and maybe not everyone knows about them.
Love how committed you are to this, guys! Keep em coming!

Ahh that makes much more sense, I thought that would have been out of character for you, that is why I may have sounded shocked. I’m glad you liked it though and we did try and cut the crap so to speak this time, its much better getting straight to the point.
We will definitely talk about other stories soon, I think the next Podcast will feature Johnny so no room there but the fourth one maybe.

and i know exactly what you meant when you said «it was almost like the computer had decided before the game…» i have that feeling sometimes too..no matter what you do or how much better your team is compared to your opponents, you end up losing some matches. highly frustrating.
Darren Smith
11 июня, 2012 at 12:02
Glad to hear it mate. Losing some games that feel destined to have one result is frustrating but I like to think every game has more than one outcome before you press play and during the match a sub can change everything.

Great job again guys, it sounds really professional. Keep up the good work.
Darren: Is your new team a brand new save or a continuation? Sorry if you already mentioned that
Darren Smith

Thanks mate, I’m glad you liked it. As for the new team it will be within my Scarborough save, meaning I’ll resign from Scarborough.

Hey Darren, Good job by you and Jake.
I love that quiz questions and Jakes reactions lol.
QUESTION FOR THE NEXT EPISODE: In your opinion, is it better to play a striker with great physical stats (strength, pace, acceleration, jumping) or a striker with great technical stats (finishing, first touch, dribbling, heading) up front?
Oh yeah and this question is not for the podcast:
What do you say on the preformance of Croatia yesterday? extraordinary win in my opinion :D
Cheers
Darren Smith
11 июня, 2012 at 18:31
Thanks Ivo, glad you like the Podcast. We will keep your question for the next episode.
As for Croatia, they were excellent and while ROI aren’t amazing you still have to beat whats in front of you. I think their technique could cause an upset or two.

Wow, that was really quite brilliant and I’m not just saying that. I got so wrapped up in the podcast I almost missed the coverage of the England match, and that was the reason I rushed home :)
Anyway both you and Jake give a very proffessional feeling I will definetly from now on be keeping up with both the network game story (I may try one of my own now) and the youth challenge which is in my opinion is a great read.
I also got two questions: Apart from the obvious solutions, like team meeting etc, can you give any additional advice as to how to get your team out a bad run of form as I find I get these at the end of the season and is always detrimental.
And secondly, I frequently find players with decent attributes but my asisstant rates them with low abilty star-wise. Which is more important?
Oh yeah and, no more prisoners, Darren! Give Jake some harder questions or he will run away with it! :D
Darren Smith
11 июня, 2012 at 18:42
Thanks for the kind words, it means a lot. We will keep your questions in mind and try to answer them next time mate. As for the quiz, its about time I stopped been so nice ;)

Listened to this last night but was too pooped to comment, actually a really funny episode. Loved Jake talking about Lescott »Came back on, looked like a pineapple» LOL. Also the quiz was great, your reactions were ace! Already looking forward to the next ep

Oh yeah, almost forgot, well done on predicting the right score and scorer! I think you should get a point in the quiz ;-). I also predicted a 1-1 scoreline on the pediction league
Darren Smith
11 июня, 2012 at 19:37
Glad you enjoyed it mate, it was a lot of fun this time and I’m glad our banter came across well. I’ll be rubbing the prediction in during our next episode and certainly think I deserve an extra point in the quiz for that one. :)

Another great listen. After your prediction, does it mean you’re taking over from where Paul the octopus left off in the World Cup? ;)
Was interesting to hear what you guys said about opposition instructions. I’ve never really liked what the assistant picks out. I set them all up myself, because a few years back, I was having far too many players getting red carded or suffering horrible injuries due to the hard tackling. There also used to be some very odd see onto weak foot instructions given for players who are strong two footed players. Maybe it’s improved, but I totally lost my trust in it.
Darren Smith
11 июня, 2012 at 20:25
lol, I could never replace Paul the Octopus mate, he was a legend!
As for opp. instructions I used to do my own too but this year I decided to use the assistants help every game (last year was only on specific occasions) and he has done very well, I can’t put any losses or bad performances down to that area so have stuck by him.

Really Nice podcast mate :) Really enjoyed listening to it while playing some of my pentagon challenge career mode. Im at F.C.A.K atm in South Africa
Could you possibly make the intro music a bit shorter as it is a tiny bit long but apart from that everthing was good :)
I have one question. Do you have any tips on how to make a bit of cash for F.C.A.K as I cant seem to make any money for them and they loose money every month. They dont own the stadium and Im paying to much for each player to be able to sustain the cost of the club. I would just let the players go but noone want to buy any of my players for less than they are worth and it will cost to much to terminate there contracts.
Darren Smith
12 июня, 2012 at 19:13
Thanks Tom, I will mention the intro music to Jake and see what he’d like to do.
As for your question it won’t feature in the Podcast as there’s no real answer at that level. I have not managed in such a country so can’t really comment, I know the lower leagues of England can make money through Friendlies against high profile clubs but bar that I don’t know what else you can do other than trim all the edges.

Thanks
I thought that was probably the answer. Ill have a go at cutting the wages down and hopefully I can gain some more money :)

Idea for next podcast — how to choose a good feeder club
I would use man united’s feeder fc twente as an example — they have a decent squad that your players will break into easily, have a decent league, and good chance of euro cup and champions cup qualification, especially if your loaned players perform well. I sent Kadlec and Fierro there and it did wonders for them, by 2016 they are two of my main 3 strikers

Thanks for the suggestion, we’ll take it into consideration…first impressions are that its an area most gamers don’t pay attention too but we’ll add it to the shortlist.

Great show and idea guys, despite you being hard on my national team (Greece). Especially since, by coincidence I heard the show just after we beat Russia and gone through.
So to my questions and you can answer whichever you like.
Tactics: There are a lot of roles for every position nowdays. So do you think you can go in to detail about the difference for example of a limited defender and a central defender? And which pairing do you prefer for the defense or the attack.
Real football: Darren there have been some early rumors about selling Cisse. Do you think Newcastle should sell him while his price is up or keep him and see how well he does next year?
Youths: Is there such a thing as overplaying some youths?
Thanks guys!
Darren Smith
17 июня, 2012 at 10:10
Yeah sorry about that ;) Greece really pulled it out of the bag last night, probably one of the upsets of the tournament seen as most people had written them off. Will be interesting to see how they handle tougher opposition.
Thanks for the questions, we’ll note them down and see if we can fit them in.

Hey Guys, great podcast!
I have a FM question. I’m Lyon and I have just signed Olivier Giroud, in 10+ games he still haven’t scored, whats wrong with him. My squad was scoring tones of goals before he came, but now he seems like a hindrance. Because of his barren run, this has made his moral very average. What can I do, I spent £16m on him!
I play 4-3-3 (4-3-3 Barcelona_v4_counter (Viitorul C-ţa, Nov 2011) < If thats any help)

Sorry mate we may not have time to answer your question in the next Podcast so I’ll offer an answer now. Firstly (and don’t take offense to this) Giroud isn’t really good enough to be scoring a mass load of goals and you need a more complete forward for the role you are assigning him. But you have him now and need to see if he can settle, he needs more time, maybe try leaving him in the reserves for a game or two and don’t be too demanding in team talks, he should improve soon.

19 июня, 2012 at 18:31
Thanks Darren, Its fine I dont take offense :L We were doing so well in the league 10-15 points ahead, that the owner gave me some extra funds so I went a bit crazy in the Jan transfer window, hence the signing of Giroud.
To quickly recap his season at Lyon after your advice, I went for the the ‘give him time approach’ and it paid of. He scored 14 in 22 games! We won the league in style. The future is looking good, but I’ll remember not to go crazy in the transfer window.
One quick question, after having a look at my squad, were do you think I should strengthen?
Cheers for the advice,
hoping for a cheeky little mention on the pod, fingers crossed :P
Darren Smith
19 июня, 2012 at 19:11
My advice would be to maybe a add a little more quality in the middle of midfield and then strengthen with youth for the bench, you can find some good recommendations and how they develop here https://footballmanagerstory.com/scout/2011/10/football-manager-2012-best-wonderkids-list/

My main advice is find a club that means something too you or a challenge that really captures your imagination…if you aimlessly start with anyone, the game is destined to end quickly.
