Hey everyone, welcome back to another instalment of the FMS Community team!
First off, I’d like to say thank you to Darren for his media analysis post on FMS and that if you haven’t read it yet you should go check it out! August came upon us then, our first stint in the championship and one I would hope that we would at least avoid relegation (even if we had been predicted 24th!). I’ll not only be taking you through the first team, we will also have a look at the Reserves and U18’s squad while we are at it.. A long with the usual news so you lot can judge what to do next with your player. Lets get started!
Reading vs FMS (Championship)
First Chamionship game of the season, and it all kicked off with an away day at Reading. As you know, Widge and Vinners are there at present, but aren’t in the first team squad as yet. Shame, because they could have injected some enthusiasm into the first half as both teams were at a stalemate. Reading coming the closest though, hitting the post after a goal mouth scramble. It wasn’t until half way through the second half that the deadlock was broken, Jenko playing a beautiful ball over the Reading back line saw Pepper finish from 5 yards. The game then kicked into life as Reading managed to pull one back through a corner finished off by Long. FMS wouldn’t be denied the 3 points though, getting them in style by adding a further two goals to the scoreline. The first from Pepper courtesy of a cross on the right hand side from Smith. FMS were then awarded a penalty when Pepper went down under a nasty challenge, Smith failing to convert from 12 yards. He did redeem himself though just 3 minutes later, sliding in to net home his first through a cross from Bushy, to round off a wonderful afternoon for the lads from Scunthorpe.

FMS vs Crewe (League Cup First Round)
Cup time now for the Patriots and it saw them come up against stiff opposition in the form of League 2 outfit Crewe. The game was won within the first half as FMS’s superiority shone through with the opening goal coming from striker Rodrigo. His exchange with Pepper saw him clean through on goal and it was frankly an easy finish for the Argentinian, sliding the ball past the helpless keeper. FMS didnt stop there though and they were two up just 3 minutes later. Pepper picking the ball up from the half way line and running through Crewe’s back line before smashing it home from a really tight angle. The game was sealed beyond any doubt before the half as Alex scored from an even tighter angle when a Sears through ball found him unmarked after a quickly taken freekick. No goals in the next half of football which meant FMS would be facing….
..in the Second round. Oh dear.
Video Highlights: Here
FMS vs Sheffield United (Championship)
Sheffild United were the hosts of the first Championship game at Patriots Park, and things got off to a flyer for the home side. Pepper’s defence splitting pass finding an unmarked Crosby inside the United box before he faked the keeper and stuck it home into an empty net. Scorer turned provided and visa versa as Crosby found himself on the left wing after another great defence splitting pass from Dully. The winger cutting back to return the favour to Pepper who made no mistake from 5 yards. After the break it was more of the same from the duo, as MRDNRA’s through ball found Pepper down the right hand side, his resulting cutback finding Crosby to get it second of the game. Another assist from the striker made it 4-0 as his corner found the head of Sears inside the United box. To finish it off then, it was only right that Pepper would have the last laugh running all the way from his own area and finishing the day in sublime fashion, smashing it past the helpless Simonsen. Fantastic!
Video Highlights: Here
Barnsley vs FMS (Championship)
Next up for FMS was a trip to fellow relegation candidates Barnsley. Things didn’t get off to the best of starts for the away side as they were behind inside the first 5 minutes, Chadwick’s cross finding O’Connor at the back post to finish off from 7 yards. They got bad to worse as well, as FMS fell further behind before the half. Doyle finding some space to hit home after a Haynes cross found him unmarked inside the area. A dubious penalty decision soon ensued after the half when Sears appeared to pull back the Barnsley striker, the referee pointing to the spot resulting in FMS going 3-0 down when the penalty was converted by Doyle. Was this the same team that smashed Sheffield United 5-0?! Smith managed to pull one back when Dami’s through ball found him all alone inside the Barnsley box to grab one back for the visitors before Shackell scored at both ends, first a header to get the home sides fourth before hitting one into his own net after a shot from Smith.
Video Highlights: Here
FMS vs Blackburn (League Cup Second Round)
The toughest encounter yet for the boys in blue (or technically maroon..?) as they faced Blackburn at home. Realistically, this is FMS’s best chance of silverware this season but their adventure didn’t get off to the best of starts as they found themselves pinned back by the Premier League outfit in the first 10 minutes. Benjani coming close on a number of occasions before FMS’s first opening came in the form of Smith, but he failed to convert a cross from Taylor091 to go into the break at 0-0. Straight after though, Blackburn got their just deserves when a corner from Salgado found Samba 5 yards out to head home the only goal of the game, one that would see FMS drop out of the League Cup as they failed to make anything else happen in the second half.
Video Highlights: Here
FMS vs Leeds (Championship)
After the League Cup exit, it was time to face close rivals Leeds. The away side took the lead within the first 10 minutes, much to the dismay of the FMS fans as they endured more misery in the stands. A bullet shot from Rasmi on the right hand side of FMS area rifled into the top corner, top finish! The home side weren’t behind for long though, and their persistence prevailed as Dully’s pass found Rodrigo with his back turned on the edge of the Leeds area, before he turned and smashed home to make things level. From then on, it was all FMS and after the break they went 2-1 up when MRDNRA’s cross found Smith who slid home from 4 yards to put the home fans into extacy! From then on, it was a tense encounter with a few nasty challenges that saw numerous yellow cards being banished. Leeds ended up with 9 men on the field, as their aggression got the better of them. First Jean for what looked like a second yellow for decent, and the other for Naylor as his mistimed tackle ended up getting a straight red! Typical Leeds eh?
Wasn’t all laughs for the home side, as Alex found himself sidelined for 5 weeks!
Video Highlights: Here
Swansea vs FMS (Championship)
Last game of the month was away in Wales, against promotion chasers Swansea. Early moments were tense, with little in the way of chances and FMS looked like they would take the lead when Bushy crossed into Smith, but he couldn’t finish from 3 yards out. Straight from that chance though, Swansea went onto the attack when the goalkeeper rolled out to Taylor on the left flank. When the ball was passed to Dyer inside the Swansea half there was only one thing on his mind. Skinnning Sibo on the left hand side, cutting in and unleashing the most perfect of shots right into the top right hand corner. One of the best goals I have seen in terms of dribbling on FM, just hope that the highlights do it justice! There wasn’t much in the way of game changing incidents until after half time, and a red card changed all of that.Pratley‘s lunge on Dami earning the Swansea man an early bath and in the end, his team all three points. Dully’s deflected pass inside the Swansea area finding Pepper to smash home and earn FMS a point away from home!

» Not too bad a month for me then boss, I don’t seem to have done too badly in our U18 games, a pretty solid debut in the Swansea game, even if I was (partly) responsible for their goal, speaking of which… was I playing at left-back?! So, yeah, thanks for the start, hopefully I continue to impress. As for the loan and stuff, I’m happy to stay here for the season now and work hard in training, do you think I should start working on my quickness after I saw that media report? Or do you think I should stay on first touch? Just decide what you think’s best, okay, thanks…I’ll be off now…»
Excessive

«That’s true Sibo, your games with the U18’s were decent and as a result I gave you a shot against Swansea to see how you would get on. Actually, I didn’t start you at left back and I played with 3 at the back and you just in front of them at defensive midfield. You know, I think you should see a specialist son, as your comments are rather strange? Or get BrainTraining with your wages.. As long as I can understand meetings with you in the future that would be brilliant.»

«Sorry boss, I can’t watch the match videos so I didn’t know what formation we were out in, my memory isn’t that great from that day as I was out that night with the lads to celebrate my debut! By the way, what are you going to do about my training, just so I can start putting the hours in.»

Only played for 2 games eh? No problemo. I gotta put in my effort to break into the first team. Anyway, who is managing the Reserves and the Under-18s?
A small request if it doesn’t bother you too much. Could add the Match Stats screen for the friendly games in the July post?
Excessive
9 июня, 2011 at 22:56
Tony Coton, the Assistant manager is in charge of the other teams. Best one I could find, and obviously seems to get the best out of all the players..
Bit busy at the moment, but I could tell you your stat’s from July if you wanted?

That’s okay performances from me… Should try to improve. In September I played only one game for the reserves and got a 7.4, I think. Not bad in that.
Do you think Burnley and Derby will be giving me first-team appearances if I’m loaned out to them?

I have tried to get you out on loan, but no-one is willing to pick you up on loan. I’ll keep trying, but I’d like you in the reserves for now, just to see how you develop :)
But like I said, your player your choice.. That’s what its all about!

Meanwhile, those are some great results, and we’re looking pretty dominant. I’d still like Yank to go on loan and get some first team action to improve his abilities, and I’m okay with just about any level of club (if Watford is down with a loan, so am I).

I haven’t really had much play time I see. One match on the first team and I sucked in that game. To be fair the the whole defence did. 4-2 against Barnsley.
I just want to know my team status is since I’m not appearing for any of the teams.
It is not like I’m not wanted at least.
Excessive
9 июня, 2011 at 23:10
Actually Niller, you have been on U21 international duty which is why I haven’t been playing you as often as I’d like. At the moment it is quite fierce competition on the wings, so you have to be patient to break into the first team.
Like I said though, its your player and if you want him to go on loan/be sold then its your choice ;)

There’s nothing better than having a nice cold beer watchin the highlights of your professional league debut :) Thanks for the games in the first team boss!
Looks like we have started well in the League, even though we lost in the league cup a 1-0 defeat against Blackburn is still not bad. Maybe a early shout for the leagues overachievers this year?
Good posts both from yourself and Darren, could you maybe include pictures of the players stats at the end of every post for all three teams so we can see how we have been performing over the whole of the season.
Once again this has been a really good idea, cant waits for the next post :)
