This FM 2013 player profile of Maximilian Meyer shows a brilliant wonderkid and one that you can get for a great price at the start of the game. Meyer is just 16 years old at the start of FM 13 and since he’s on an unprotected contract you can approach to sign him directly without having to negotiate with his club, so you can get him for a compensation fee of 1.77 million pounds.
In my test save he made pretty good progress until 2019, even though he didn’t get too much first team football in the first couple of seasons at Schalke. His dribbling is almost perfect at the age of 23, brilliant technique plus excellent flair and creativity. And that’s how he developed under CPU management, I’m sure he can become a lot better with good human management. He was signed by Betis in my save for 14.75 million, so there’s the prospect of a huge profit on him as well. Signing this lad is a no-brainer in my view.

We don’t load the German league either. Our test save set up is like this: large database loaded, including England, Italy, Spain, Argentina and Brazil loaded as playable.

Not disappointing at all in my view, he has great attributes for an attacking midfielder. But I agree he can become a lot better under human management.

I don’t think his pace ever improves enough to make a good winger; granted, I guess that depends on your tactics. I know there are some tactics where wingers with pace aren’t necessary.

This is Johnny’s post, not mine (Darren), we have more than one scout here due to the size of our site. And yes I do remember what I said previously and I personally stand by that statement, we all have different opinions after all. If you remember correctly I said that he wouldn’t develop to his max under AI due to flexible PA and the massive rise required from his CA and I have been proven right with this profile, I also went on to say you wouldn’t know his full ability until trying him with human management, which backs up Johnny’s comments.
And last of all we don’t take other articles into consideration when profiling, just our own research…so next time you might want to check your facts before commenting, as I personally and it could be the same for Johnny don’t read your site, not for any other reason than lacking the time, but after browsing it looks like you have done well in a short space of time so good luck with it.

Don’t know all the unprotected contract players by heart, but there’s a filter you can use when searching for players in the game.

Thanks, but what filter is that exactly? I can’t find it. I tried looking for players on youth contracts but I couldn’t offer a contract to any of them straight away like with Meyer.

It’s the «contract» filter, you can either have «expired», «expiring» and so on but there should be the «unprotected» option in there as well.

That option does not appear to be on my game, unless unattached is the same thing?
If so, is there a way of finding out who is good without scouting them all, as they all have no value, due to them being unattached?

Yes, unattached is the same thing, I can’t open my game now to check the exact name. But I’m afraid you do have to scout them, at least if you are playing with attribute masking enabled. If not, you can always use attribute filters.

His natural position is AMC (at least in FM 2013 it was), so I’d rather use him in his natural position if I have a choice. Between inside forward and MC I’d choose inside forward.
