This FM 2013 player profile of Matija Nastasic shows a top centre back, a defender with amazing strength and very good speed as well, plus solid mental attributes. Unfortunately Manchester City beat us all to his transfer and it would be impossible to sign him at the start of the game. However, I made an offer and the Citizens would be willing to let him go for 20 million, even though the player won’t accept a move right away.
In my test save he was bought by Tottenham in 2017 for 25 million pounds, a hefty price for an excellent player. He’s got both strength and speed, solid mental attributes, good tackling, heading and marking, almost the perfect centre back. His passing could be improved though but I’m sure he would develop way beyond this screen shots under human management.

I think you could get a lot more bang for you buck investing in Nkoulou for instance. Or if it’s his age you’re interested in Kurt Zouma is in a similar sort of price range.

Nastasic is quite expensive at the start of the game but I think you can get him for a more reasonable fee later on.
