What it actually shows is that defense is still not working… another wasted year!

That is a pretty harsh verdict for just a preview of the game, they still have at least a couple of months of work for the final version.

I know its still work in progress but at a first glance it looks like FM13.

@Clifford and Si
They never said it’s a NEW match engine, just an improved version of the old one. So I guess it should look just about the same at a first glance.

i have to agree with Johnny on this!! What’s being said is that the match engine wasn’t graphically altered! The way players react is and that was what was wrong with the ME in FM 13 in my opinion!!! If the players react more realistically and have a better defensive awareness i’ll be happy! Besides graphically the ME was already good!
Work in progress guys, come on!

I don’t understand why they can’t have the match engine like Fifa Manager, awesome graphics which surely isn’t out of the capabilities of SI

Agree with Scottwalker on this one. A fifa manager match engine would be a huge improvement on the game. I guess the problem there is that fifa manager was an EA product so they had access to the fifa match engine. Obviously FM doesn’t have that, though I would like to know who was responsible for designing that seriously flawed match engine in the last game. I do think it is a slight improvement, the passing seemed a bit crisper and the shots looked a little different to me. Was also good to see a decent save!

I like some of the detail outside of the smaller stadiums and the shadows and sunlight looks a bit more realistic. Subtle changes I guess rather than earth shattering but that’s okay.

I don’t think the Fifa Manager engine is all that. They have practically the same engine for six, seven years. Besides I don’t think SI should put their time in aesthetic features, that’s what FIFA Manager specializes in.

Match engine aesthetics have always been my least concern now that it is 3d. A more finely tuned engine will be just great in my opinion.
Can’t wait to see how it will look with my first save in Wales.

To me the mechanics off the ball movement and the ai of players looks to have been improved!!

I can completely understand the worry of a repeat of last years problematic match engine repeating itself, but to want a new look match engine would just be asking for trouble. As long as they solve the issues from last year and make this the best match engine to date (in terms of functionality and how the players react) I am happy. I actually think the ME looks great graphically as it is, it just needs to function better and judging by the video SI have already made great strides towards that, as always they tend to make there best tweaks nearer the games release anyway.
Nice to see things like the keeper making more ‘real life’ saves and the post been hit more realistically too, I also think the defensive side showed better in the video than what we currently have in FM13.

The AI in fifa manager games is shocking. Football manager’s AI is a lot better.
and thats why i play football manager. The comment i made earlier about Fm 14
looking the same as fm 13 at a glance was not a complaint. i was just expecting it to look a little
different. But as miles said in the video it is still WORK IN PROGRESS.

I wonder if you still get people scoring crosses into the top corner, mostly in pre-season…
