Hello everyone and welcome back to the finale of season two with Cambridge United. We left off last time with Cambridge dropping down to second place and tying a vital home game with Southend who are just three points behind in third spot. With just five games left let’s see how the season ended…
The first game of April saw us travel to Bury and after a very drab and uneventful first half defender Scott Wootten headed in the opening goal after 66 minutes. Out of nowhere Bury created an equalizer with eleven minutes remaining and with the fans anxiously looking at their watches Conor Newton found Shane Williams completely unmarked at the edge of the area and his neatly placed shot beat the Bury keeper and was enough to snatch all the points. It was then the light went on in my head and I realized that THREE TEAMS get automatically promoted and Shane Williams had just sent us up into League One!!!
As you can see the Cambridge board were absolutely thrilled that we had been promoted once again.
With the step up to League One now a certainty here’s how the rest of the results went to close out the season.
League Two Final Table
Colchester kept their commanding lead at the top and we came in a very respectable second place. One of my biggest concerns for next season though is reducing the «goals against» column as I feel 52 is quite high
Scott Wootten lead the field as the top player with the highest average rating but I was really pleased to see Moore, Fofana and Walcott all up there who each have important roles in my left flank tactic.
Young Turkish striker Nadir Ciftci turned out to be our top scorer for the season with 19 goals from 30 appearances which is not too bad at all and I’m pretty sure I’ll be keeping him on for next season. Here’s is profile once more.
The last piece of information for this update is Cambridge’s finances that over the last 12 months have continued to improve. I’ve managed to stay almost £2,000 under my salary budget and have not even touched any of the transfer budget though I’m wondering if that million quid will still be there in the summer?
Well that completes the season and thanks very much for reading this somewhat shorter post today. Hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoy’s this Cup Final Saturday.

Hi Kevin,
This is the formality. Your performances for the whole season tells us you will surely going to get promoted. Well done on getting promoted with a few games to spare. Best of luck in your pre-season activities. Have a great weekend.

Hello Lye
Thanks a lot. Hopefully we will perform as well next season :)

That’s a brilliant season Kevin, and you finished well. Your defence conceded quite a lot of goals, but your attacking play was very good, and hopefully you can keep scoring goals in League 1. Looking forward to your pre season :)

Cheers Laxeyman
My defence was a worry for most of the year but wejust managed to keep ahead on goal difference.

Congratulations Kevin on a well-deserved promotion! My advice would be to spend that million quid before July, you might not find that money there when the new season expectations will be announced. I’m sure that you can find a pair of awesome centre backs for half that money!

Thanks Johnny
Two decent centre backs are exactly what I need and thanks for the tip about the money :)

Hey Kevin
Great season, finishing second was a great achievement. I would advise you to buy a defender for next season, it would be a shame to concede too many goals. If you have to pay for one, pay now so you still have money that won’t harm your next transfer window budget.

Hi vaibhavc
Thanks for your comment and I’ll follow your advice. Hopefully there’s a CB out there for me :)

Hey Kevin,
Well done, you completely deserved it! Looking forward to your pre-season post, I wonder if you will have that million…

Well done Kevin!
I am glad to see that you won automatic promotion, really good job! Also, your finances are in great shape and if you get that money next season and use it wisely you will easily have a strong enough team to blast into the Championship!
Well done! :D
Kevin

Thanks Sibo
I guess I could really build a strong team for promotion if the cash stays around.

Great stuff mate, two consecutive promotions and convincing season. I’d usually predict a top half finish for your third season in the lower leagues, but that £1 million could make it a promotion push. Just depends on your board and if they keep it there for next season I guess. Great work and I’m looking forward to next season. :)

Hi Darren
It will be interesting to see what happens during the summer to all the money. I think that’s probably key to a third straight promotion.

Very nicely done Kevin, another promotion and decent finances, I agree with you, your team needs improvement in defense in order to compete in League 1, looking forward to next season

Thanks CsAtlantis
Defence is where I’ll be focusing on during the off season.

Brilliant stuff Kevin! Unlucky on losing out of 1st spot but that happened because of injuries. I’m getting very addicted to this story now! Looking forward to your Pre season! — Like everyone, you need a good defender. Try Sam Sodge, he was good for me. Good Luck.

Well done Kevin!
You did conceed a few, so a couple of defenders are what you need! That said you were also very free scoring finishing as second highest in goals for.
Good luck next season!! :)
