Basingstoke: August and September 2009

Alright, It’s time to kick off the campaign with Basingstoke Town. I don’t have a real starting XI yet but I’ll let the first few games form the team all down to form+ability. A few points more or less in any attributes doesn’t really make that much difference as every playing has their good days and bad. I’ll let their performances on the pitch do the talking and when they dip in form I’ll try to let other players get their chances instead. Of course there will be some massive rotation in the beginning down to fitness issues, but that’s expected and hopefully it won’t hurt the performances too much.

August

Pretty good start ey?  It really is! I’m very happy with the displays this early on. Chelmsford, Maidenhead and Worcester are tough teams in the league.

On-loan striker Fitchett is soaring after his first month and has scored an unexpected 7 goals in 5 outings.

Another Player that has banged in goals is my attacking midfielder Stephen Laidler. One of the few players that was here from the beginning. Doesn’t have the most impressive attributes but is enjoying his role as trequartista.

September

Continuing our great form! We’ve only two draws as black spots in our protocol as of yet. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season. We have a new on-loan player in the shape of Bignall. Thanks to our big brothers Reading we have the opportunity to loan their youngsters and so I have loaned two strikers from them and one of them is this pacey englishman. The other is Bulgarian Vasilev who also scored this month. Unfortunately Bignall is only here on a 3 month basis. I’ve filled my quotea of 2 long-term loans. (Vasilev and Fitchell)

Here’s the league table

Chelmsford is also on a good streak and that draw against them has proven important.

Welcome back when the next post has arrived!

What a great start! Majk you must be really proud of your team. You and Johnny really have an eye for players while I tend to struggle during my first season in Thurrock. I don’t seem able to attract loanees as most don’t want to join us. I wonder is it due to the club reputation or an unknown foreign manager. You look on course for the promotion but I hope the players will not be complacent after such a great start.

Hi Majk, that’s a brilliant start, well done! You’ve got some good strikers, hopefully they will continue to fire in the goals and take you to promotion. Good luck!

Superb start Majk, well done! Those are quality players too, you shouldn’t have any problems with promotion. On the other hand, just look at poor Dorchester… They would need a better manager, wouldn’t they? :)

@Lye — Thanks mate! The loans are the tough part. At least 85 percent of the loans I go for gets rejected by the player. You’ll just have to aim rather low or try loaning from a parent-club like Reading is for me. But I’m just relentless in finding players, but also waste a lot of time doing so.

Laxeyman — Thanks mate! I just hope the strikers continue there form and then pass it on when their loan-deal ends. Bignall and Fitchett aren’t here for the whole season, and I’m not sure If I’ll be able to prolong their stay either.

Johnny — Thanks mate. I’m happy with the talent I’m finding but I’m still over my wage budget and the club isn’t that impressed, so I’m trying to thin down my squad a bit.

Poor Dorchester! At least my Basingstoke is in the middle of your table.

Vasilev is a great pick up at that level. I had him on a short term loan with Eastleigh and was gutted that he was injured for 6 weeks of the 3 months. He was good enough to warrant keeping on loan for the one game that he could play before he had to go back to REading.

Good luck- look forward to reading how you get on.
