5 Interesting teams to manage in Football Manager 2023

If you’re a Football Manager veteran, we’re sure you’ve had a tough time in picking a team to manage more than once in your life.

While some players simply choose their favourite team, many others delve much deeper to find challenges that will test their managerial skills to the limit.

From resurrecting a sleeping giant to taking a non-league club into the topflight and more, there are loads of great ways to play Football Manager (FM).

With that in mind, we look at five of the most interesting teams you could manage when FM 2023 is released later this year.

Newcastle United

Much like playing games live at Platincasino, the challenge of playing and starting off your FM Career is an entertaining one.

With wealthy new owners backing the club, guiding the Magpies to success at in the UK should be an exciting journey.

However, as anyone familiar with the game will know, having loads of money to spend does not always equate to winning silverware.

With demanding owners and a passionate fanbase eager for success, replacing Eddie Howe in the Newcastle hotseat could be a tough gig.

Blackburn Rovers

If you fancy the idea of working under dysfunctional owners, head into the Championship and test your managerial skills with Blackburn Rovers.

The club’s fall from grace under Venky’s was pretty spectacular, although the ship has been steadied a little in recent years.

Former manager Tony Mowbray left the squad in reasonable shape, while several talented players make the future look bright for Blackburn Rovers.

If Rovers can retain the services of striker Ben Brereton Diaz this summer, they could be an extremely interesting project on FM 2023.

Lyon

Having rattled off seven successive titles during the early part of the 21st century, Lyon have found success hard to come by in recent years.

They finished eighth in Ligue 1 last season, a whopping 25 points behind Paris Saint-Germain and outside of the European qualification places.

PSG’s wealth makes managing in France a tough task, but Lyon have the basis of a squad that quickly could re-emerge as genuine challengers.

With loads of midfield creativity at your disposal and returning striker Alexandre Lacazette likely to score plenty of goals, Lyon are well worth considering on the game.

Torino

Torino last won the Serie A title in 1975/76 and have since had five separate spells in Italy’s second tier.

They returned to the top-flight for the 2012/13 season but have subsequently finished no higher than seventh place over the past ten seasons.

Challenging for European qualification will be no easy task, particularly with the club struggling to find the net consistently last season.

However, with a few shrewd signings and the right tactics, it is not beyond the realms of possibility to guide Torino back in contention for European qualification.

Wrexham

For the players who want to get the most out of the new features and improvements in FM 2023, it is imperative to manage a team that will provide longevity in the game.

With Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bankrolling the club, Wrexham have the potential to climb out of non-league and up the football ladder.

They were unlucky to miss out on promotion to League 2 last season and will be one of the favourites to get the job next time around.

With a loyal fanbase and strong roots in the local community, managing Wrexham could be a hugely rewarding long-term role for any FM player.
