Wrexham: November 2010

Published on

Hello friends and finally after working some 12 to 15 hour days over the last two weeks I can bring you an update on my Wrexham story which at one point I feared would fade away.

Our first game of the new month was at home to Hayes and Yeading. We put in a lousy performance in the opening 45 minutes allowing the visitors to hit the woodwork twice before Morrell found the net from a Lewis Emanuel cross on the stroke of half time. The second half wasn’t much better and we had to rely on an own goal to double our lead right at the final whistle.

We stayed at home for our next game which was The FA Cup First Round clash against League 2 side Port Vale. A solid performance by the back four led by Frank Sinclair kept the visitors at bay for the most part and with Brian Gilmour commanding the midfield we enjoyed the greater possesion. The speed of young Dane Thomas Lyskov finaly paid off early in the second half when his cross was met by Williams who hit the ball into to roof of the net from just inside the box. It was enough to send us through to the second round where we will meet BSP rivals Rushden & Diamonds.

After our FA Cup victory we were off to play bottom club Tamworth where we put in our worst performance of the season. If it were not for a series of excellent saves by Chris Maxwell we would have ended up losing the game. As it was Andy Morell provided the equalizer for us but we never looked like winning the game.

The following game was at home to Luton Town in a top of the table clash. Although we enjoyed the greater possesion we had a difficult time breaking down a well organized Luton defence and whose counter attacking game caught us out on more than one occasion. In the end though it was the speed of Thomas Lyskov whom I kept on the bench and brought on for the last 15 minutes assisted in breaking the deadlock as his cross found the head of fellow substitute Marc Williams for the only goal of the game.

Next up was a visit to Twerton Park to face 19th place Bath City. After witnessing a painstaking and dreary opening 40 minutes Knight-Percival slided in the opening goal 3 minutes before half time being left unmarked after a cross from the right flank. Bath came out like a team inspired and pegged us back for the whole of the second half and got a well deserved equalizer. For our part the strikers again missed what appeared to be easy chances and we are stuck on this one goal a game routine which is getting annoying.

The last game of the month was away to Rushden in second round of the FA Cup who were now also our closest rivals in the league. I was hoping for a more energetic and entertaining performance but as it turned out it was yet another mundane effort bringing to an end a less than memorable month in front of goal.

We have an all Welsh clash to kick off  next month followed by two cup games. Hopefully we will start to turn chances into goals and quickly too.

Thanks for reading.

Note: There are no video uploads as there’s nothing much to see. Believe me the highlights were drab!
