Torquay United: Life on the Riviera

Published on

Hello Friends and welcome to my new story (yes another one) featuring Torquay United based on the English Riviera in Devon and what a spectacular place it seems to be!

Having taken control of the team the first thing I did was to assess my staff and determine if it was time to package out any of them. The only one I decided to release was Coach Steve Taylor and as for the Scouts I decided to keep them both on. I’ll be placing job adverts for both coaches and scouts as we are a bit shorthanded in each area.

It was time then to review the players I was to be in charge of. As usual I started out with an assistant manager team report whose assessment determined we needed to strengthen the midfield but otherwise we had sufficient coverage.

The feedback I received I’ll take under advisement as I think there are better players to be targeted than those suggested. Additionally, I feel we need at least another 4 players to come in to bolster up other positions as well.

As for this seasons expectations I promised the board a top half finish and for that they allocated £20,000 for transfers and £19,000 for salaries. With the help of staff meetings and additional team reports I actually brought in seven new players though as you can see there isn’t  too much depth to release anyone.

As my audience is very knowledgable you are most likely familiar with many of these players but here’s a couple that you may not have come across before.

Unknown New Zealander Shane Hooks was brought in for a DMC role as I liked his work rate and team work attributes and has not bad stamina either.

Striker Andrew Barrowman is already a journeyman at 24 years old and has played in almost all the lower English professional divisions but had his best season with Ross County in Scotland. Good finishing and composure drew my attention.

Here’s a player already in the squad and is valued the highest in the team at £150,000. Eunan has a scattering of pretty decent attributes but his dribbling and crossing could make him dangerous down that left flank. Let’s hope so!

Here the are the pre-season results. We got off to a great start but didn’t do so well against teams form higher divisions though morale stayed high as we went into August.

August Fixtures

Our opening game is at home to Chesterfield followed by the visist of Crystal Palace for a League Cup encounter.

So that’s it for now as I begin my journey on the English Riviera!
