Stade Malherbe Caen: March 2010

Published on

Welcome back! On to my first monthly update we have March, with 4 matches being played.

Vannes — Caen

Vannes was the first obstacle to climb and with a new-born Wilfried Niflore in their attacking setup things could be easier said than done. The got off and left me in good favor after just 6 minutes of play. 0-1!Nivet shook loose from his cover and threaded an excellent through pass to Sambou Yatabaré who slotted it into the back of the net. 0-2! A typical Caen attacking move where wingers come bursting forward with the use of playable strikers. Deroin was the one to thread a delicate pass this time, between two defenders into the feet of Dady who quickly turned with the ball and smashed it into the right top corner. Vannes was now desperate for a goal and took some control of the game while we sat back and waited for countering opportunities. But then they got wind.. 1-2! It was the one I feared. Niflore got control of a short cross, took it down well and hit it low in the far corner. Nothing Thebaux could do about that. A stunning finish. Fortunately for us that was all they could muster up before the final whistle. An important victory for SMC.

Caen — Ajaccio

Next up was AC Ajaccio on our home turf. Not a big game by any means and we controlled the game from start to finish, though we felt a bit disappointed not to score more goals than we did. 1-0 — Proment opened the scoring with a pile-driver effort which ricoched off the right post before it ended up in the back of the net. A seldom seen effort from My defensive midfielder. 1-1 Came from the penalty spot. Barzorla tripped up Diaz in a what looked to be a controlled situation where Barzola was first to the ball but somehow lost his head. Diaz made no mistake and equalised with not that much left of the game. But Caen would go triumphant from this fixture. 2-1! Kryvtsov as so many times before this season, standing on the back post heading home a corner kick from left-back Tafforeau.

Stade Brestois — Caen

A game we’d all like to forget. With two Injuries in first half and a small strain on tafer aswell we had made 3 subs in half-time. By then they were up 1-0. Second started as badly as the first one ended with 2-0 in the 46th minute. 3-0 came and we were all done for but they got a red card late in the game and we got a spot kick. We could have saved some face from that game but this wasn’t our night. Proment missed the penalty and 3-0 was a fact.

Caen — Clermont Foot

The last game of the month and we were struggling in the last match and had to make up for that defeat. 1-0!Kryvtsov opened the scoring with another header from a corner situation. That takes his tally to 6 goals this season. 2-0came before half time and it was a fumble from the keeper on a Yatabaré header. We had total control over this game and truly showed that we deserve to qualify from Ligue 2, despite that shocking 0-3 defeat last week.

That was the games for March. Not much left of the season now but we’re still in the run for winning ligue 2. I forgot to take a screenshot of the table but we’re in second place after Sedan Ardennes, but just by 2 points. I’ll remember to post the league table in every monthly update from now on, as I’ve already played 2 games in April when I’m writing this.

April is up next and you’ll probably see that update tomorrow!
