Plymouth Argyle: September 2011….tasting defeat

Published on

Hello fellow FM gamers and welcome back to my Plymouth story. This update will be a rather short one simply because I’ve been only able to play five games in an entire week so based on that effort I may just get Plymouth to the EPL before FM 2013 comes out! What can I tell you, I’m working at the office, on the subway and at home…not good.

We began the month at home to Southend who took control of the first 30 minutes but failed to make anything of it and paid the price as Marques headed in from a Simon Walton free kick. The Southend defence proved tricky to break down but we managed a second goal as left winger Will Atkinson tapped in from close range. Southend did manage a consolation goal late in the game.

Our 100% record finally ended away to Port Vale after Asante had given us the lead in the first half, slipping two defenders and toe-poking the ball home. A mistake by left back Ben Reeves proved to be our undoing with 9 minutes left on the clock as Port Vale snatched an equalizer.

It was back to winning ways as we brushed aside Shrewsbury at Home Park as Derby’s Alex Witham on loan for three months got his first goal, deputising for Simon Walton. Asante scored again with a real poachers’ effort from inside the six yard box off a cross from right winger Luke Daley who had a sensational game ending with a rating of 9.0 and the man of the match award.

Chelsea’s Marko Mitrovic agree to join us for three months and failed to make any real impression as we finally tasted defeat in the league away to Bradford City. It just wasn’t our day with Asante hitting the side netting several times and Rui Marques saw 2 headers hit the woodwork and another FOUR cleared off the line. Yes, we had to lose at some point but not in such an unlucky manner especially as the only goal of the game was caused by another deflected ball into the path of an opposing striker!

Rui Marques was equally as unlucky in our following game at home to Crewe hitting the woodwork three times before Asante gave us the lead from close range after 35 minutes. Central defender Soukouna put us two up with a headed in free kick before Asante added a third with a stylish effort just after the hour whcih you can view from clicking the link below.

Asante Goal

Results Summary

With one draw and a defeat we surrendered top spot in the table to Rotherham but are only a point behind though have a nice little cushion over third place Swindon.

Asante’s two goals against Crewe means he has scored nine in ten games and leads the standings in my «Super Sevens».

I’m very pleased with the team’s effort these opening copule of months because as you will see much of my first team is under 20 years of age.

On the injury front Kaby is almost ready to return to action as is left back Onismor Bhasera who was injured before pre-season. I’m excited to see him in action especially as  he looks to be an ideal fit for my left flank tactic.

Well now that you know this «save» is still active I will be switching to two month updates and here are the upcoming fixtures over that time period.

Well, that’s it for this short update so thanks for taking the time to read it and have a great weekend!
