Liverpool — Season Ends With FA Cup Disappiontment

Published on

Hello everyone and firstly, welcome to the new home of True Football Manager Story. I would like to thank Johnny for allowing me to post on this site. It is a real privilege, especially for someone as inexperienced as me in the ‘blogger’ world. Anyway, on with the story. For those of you who have read my old blog, you will know I wrapped up the league title with Liverpool, for the 2nd time in my third season. You will also know that we crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid in the quarter final. This was a huge disappointment for me, as I had made the Champions League my priority. In my last post on my old blog I also mentioned I was in the FA Cup Final, against Arsenal, a repeat of last season’s final, which we won. If you are not familiar with my story, you can check it out at http://truefmstory-laxeyman.blogspot.com/

Now onto the FA Cup Final. Here is the screen shot of the game. Unfortunately we lost. You can see from the match stats that we probably deserved it. Arsenal had more shots and possession, and there average ratings were far higher. Despite this they never really created any clear cut chances, and I felt we still had a good chance of winning the game. This was reinforced when Gignac gave us a surprise lead in the 108th minute, just as I thought it was going to penalties. Unfortunately Jules Jourdain, who is a 21 year old regen DC and is starting to displace Carragher, then conceded a penalty, which Bendtner scored. This was very annoying as I believed we were going to win. After this I was just preparing for penalties, when Bendtner rose at the far post to head in a Walcott cross, giving Arsenal the lead in the last minute. I felt a bit aggrieved as we had battled very hard, even if we had not played particularly well. There was still time, however for Aquilani’s long range shot to hit the post and then be cleared off the line by Clichy. This really didn’t help my mood as it was more bad luck for us.

Here is the final League Table, which shows the huge margin of victory in the league for us. A full 16 points, which really reflects on how poor the challenging teams were.

Here are the player stats for the last season. I would give Torres the player of the season award, for his amazing goalscoring feats. He scored an incredible 44 goals, 31 of them in league, making him the league’s top scorer by 7 goals, from Rooney. I would also like to mention David Silva, who was brilliant in the final few months, after it took him a while to settle, and Nicolas Otamendi, who was very solid at the back throughout the whole season.

In case you don’t know, I am also the England Manager, after being offered the job in October. We qualified for the European Championship, and have been drawn in a group alongside Ukraine, Serbia and Turkey. This isn’t a particularly difficult group, but there is no also ran team there. Despite this I still believe we can qualify easily for the knockout stage, and go along way in the tournament. This belief was reinforced when I saw we are the 3rd best team in the world, with only Italy and Brazil in front of us. As Brazil aren’t in the Euros it theoretically means we are the second best team in the tournament.

That’s all for now, I will continue to look for new signings and hopefully we can do well in the Euros!
