How to get a good Director of Football in FM 2013

Published on

I have been receiving quite a few questions about the Director of Football in FM 2013 via email and through the social networks, so I decided to provide the answers here for further reference. This is one of the key staff members in a professional football club and I am extremely happy that SI decided to include this position in Football Manager 2013. Now I will try to list the essential attributes for a Director of Football in FM 2013.

The main job of the Director of Football, at least in real life, is to find and buy new players for the club. That said, here are the first two essential attributes:

  • Judging Player Ability
  • Judging Player Potential

When signing a Director of Football in FM 2013 you might also want to consider his scouting knowledge, the more nations he knows the better job he can do. So, another two key things to look at are…

  • Scouting Knowledge
  • Adaptability

The Director of Football can also negotiate incoming and outgoing transfers, so I think there are a few more attributes that would be useful:

  • Determination
  • Motivating

Last but not least, the Director of Football should be able to read your tactical preferences and bring players that would suit your way of playing the game. So another useful attribute is…

  • Tactical Knowledge

I have recently started a new save with Everton and I signed this former World Champion as a Director of Football: (to0 bad the club doesn’t have too much money to spend on transfers…)

So, that’s what I think can make a good Director of Football in FM 2013. But that’s just my two cents, feel free to add your views in the comments. Also, if you find this post useful, please share it with your mates on the social networks.
